I know this app blocks numbers but does it block unknown callers? I have recently been receiving some annoying unknown calls and would like to block them for good.

hello to all,
i decided trying this app yesterday on my n900 and i am so amazed with its potential...great job!!
i only regret a few things that i am leaving here as a comment, maybe it makes sense to some of you, and maybe it could be improved:
1.i think its very bad that i have to reinstall the widget everytime i turn my tablet on/off...can you repair this bug?
2.the tablet is used mainly in landscape mode, so i think the app would look much better also wilh a landscape mode, as default or in an internal setting
3.when i click on a contact in the widget, the contact card..i dont like it at all, much prefered if id would direct me to the default n900 contact card instead...
4.maybe it would be cool if the widget could minimize all the contacts, by timeout, and asume its present graphical state wilh all the contacts by pressing one of the group buttons
5.instead of me defining the colums of contacts i want visible, maybe i coul add contacts to groups and the widget could resize its window automaticly
well..just some ideas...hope i am not repeating much of what has been said in this thread...besides this...its a great app!!!..congrats.

It is something that I thought about and have been asked before but that I can't implement w/o getting some "unknown calls" first and I am not looking forward to that :)

I would need someone that has received calls from unknown numbers to send me the mycontacts log (/home/user/.mycontacts/log.txt) so I can see how their are identified.

I just uploaded a new "very experimental" version that uses the experimental qtm11 libraries and the only other change is that it will auto start after each boot - feel free to test if you feel adventurous.

Unfortunately not. The long press is used by the "desktop" to start the edit mode.

Just uploaded a new version: 0.9.23.

It should fix the missing package dependencies and it may be slight faster to load contacts.

IMPORTANT: Started with the previous release and until further notice this package will be linked against the qt mobility 1.1 packages.

tks for the reply and the interest in reading, i am sorry if my repairs are mainly graphic, and perhaps naive, but i am not a coder, i am a graphic designer..
As for the settngs ajustments you mentioned, t tryed to do it, but couldnt..perhaps i explaind the wrong way as i was talking about the widget, not the aplication...i mean the widget should be great in landscape, with the group butons aligned horizntaly...

The reason why the "group buttons" are always on the left is that in the first release my idea was to maximize the use of the screen so I could show 15 contacts at a time with the largest square possible for each.

I am always open to create alternative "views" or improve the existing ones. Please feel free to send me screenshots if you have any ideas you think could be interesting :)

Please keep in mind that supposedly the "widgets" are not supposed to change size after created.

is it possiable to create a group and send sms everyone on that group via a single click... i hav placed my 2O friends on a group and if i need o send SMS to everyone on that group....can it be possiable...

To prevent the mycontacts to start automatically after every boot you will have to delete or move, AS ROOT, the file: /etc/event.d/mycontacts

I just uploaded to the extras-devel repository what is the the beginning of a cycle of new features.

This new version introduces a new view written with QML. Most people don't (and shouldn't) care what programing languages are used but the idea is that by using QML we can have "richer" user interfaces.

This new view includes two important features missing until now: search and virtual keyboard. The search, like everything else, can use some optimization and tweaks but it is already good enough to find someone to call :)

Few notes:

• After installing this version you will have two icons for mycontacts (mycontacts and mycontacts2) on the programs list. You can start the new interface using the mycontacts2 icon or by selecting "Phones (BETA)" on the menu of the "old" mycontacts.
• I combined the two into one package/exectutable to avoid wasting any resources.
• The new version lacks "style". Designers out there: we need you! Please send me printscreens with your suggestions
• The color schema is very "Windows 95"... lots of memories :)

This is by no means a finished feature but should work well enough to be worth testing it!

Make sure to let me know of any bugs comments and suggestions.

You need to have either extras-devel or extras-testing repository enabled. Select update on HAM or FAP and it should show us an option.

I have 2 questions.
I have installed Mycontacts mainly for call blocking.
Does it create any log of rejected calls, and if so, where?
Do rejected calls show in the telephone app log?

Could you add support to reject unidentified/private calls?

A lot of things get logged to a text file, including any call received or rejected, but the log file is overwritten every time mycontacts start and it is anything but user friendly.

I am pretty sure that the rejected calls will get logged like any other calls.

Yes. I just need someone to help me how the call is identified. If you have received any since you installed mycontacts you should find this information on the log (/home/user/,mycontacts/log.txt)

i have called myself from 'unknown number' but i can't see anything in the log file that indicates received calls, sure as hell not user friendly as you said before
any directions? where should i look inside the file?

as of latest update, every time I reboot the app launches and the widget is placed on desktop.... annoying really.

most of the people here asked for auto launch of the widget (as did i)
it is a bit annoying that the contacts2 launches.
also it doesn't have an x button to close it missing languages theme unrelated and couple more tweaks here and there, but great job.. this app is on the right path.
if someone could only write a widget app or what ever, so we can answer phone like the iphone. i find myself answering many times without even knowing it. or rejecting calls, on the other hand sometimes the phone cpu is so loaded that i can't answer. (will have to see what i can do about that some other time though)

Sorry for that... This auto install have been an issue since my first attempt. I had a lot of requests so I enabled it again by default.

For now if you really want to get rid of it follow the instructions here.

I have too many ideas for the "mycontacts2". Unfortunately not enough time. Is the keyboard the main "language issue"?

That is an issue for me too. I HATE IT! I keep the phone in my pocket and every time I get a call I end up magically pushing the reject button.

yea man this Reject/Answer method Nokia provided us sucks balls. really stupid and i am sure its an issue for many.
as for the language: i got contacts in hebrew as well as english, most already renamed to english but its years and years of contacts so dont have time or will to change everyone's name's.
if you could somehow make it use the standart osso-contacts whatever thingy so we can have "extended search" and the the languages we got in our system input menu.

keep up the great work cheers. i am loving it, right now probably the widget i use the most (calling people dah :P)
