samsung vibrant

samsung vibrant with tmob, 4 in screen and runs android 2.1(?), not 2.2?, http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrevi...-updated/16009

"The Android 2.1-powered Vibrant has some hefty features, including a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel AF camera/camcorder with LED flash, and a microSD card slot.

T-Mobile is even throwing in Avatar pre-loaded on the 2GB of storage space. Available on July 21, expect to pay $199.99 with a two-year contract. Eager beavers can pre-order this one starting on July 1 with the purchase of a $50 gift card. Interesting."

The vibrant is just a rebranded Galaxy S.

Re: samsung vibrant

samsung is gonna flood the market with phones

they are also in a unique position in that they supply key components for othe phone brands like displays and chips.

i think i have read already that they are restricting at least at first this new super amoled screen to only their models.

this type of situation could be some of the driving force behind apple doing their own chip manufacturing and nokia partnering with intel.

The restriction on AMOLED tech has more to do with manufacturing output once they can manufacture them fast enough you will see them in many more phones.

AMOLED is even more unreadable outdoors than regular LCD technology.
It (in theory) has somewhat better color quality, but otherwise its lifetime is shorter, and generally it is far worse in many aspects than a regular LCD screen.

I don't know why it is so hyped.

because it has a really long semi-pronounceable acronym and they put 'super' in front of it :)

Just kidding, it does have nice color and supposedly less power consumption and power consumption is a big factor for mobile

which is effectively a restriction...all new tech from samsung from now on will go into samsung phones first.

I would be willing to bet in the smartphone boom pre-now, many many phones had a very high samsung parts content

That's one of the sad things about Android. :(

I think they are ideal for mobile phones becuase of battery consumption since lifetime becomes less of an issue for phones though it is still important. They offer true black. Super AMOLED also addresses the problem of visibility in sunlight over AMOLED too. I think they are perfectly suited for mobile phones simple because of the low power drain and touch sensitivity but still give a picture quality which is comparable if not superior to LCD.

Don't worry about that it receive the Froyo update at the moment the only Froyo device is the Google Nexus One.
