Firefox 1.1 is out
 

I've just downloaded it. It seems to be much faster than previous version. Now, I'm going to start playing with it.

One hour ago I simply found a software update.

Info page clearly says that it's Firefox Mobile 1.1.
It also upgrades Firefox Sync/Weave to 1.4.

On the first web sites it seems very responsive, almost as MicroB

its an update you don't need a download link. get it from the ovi store for free if you don't have firefox otherwise just check for updates in the app manager if you do. 1.1 seems faster but it seemed like it was stuck loading "tabs from last time" and 5 of my add-ons are now incompatible with 1.1 hope the add-ons get an update soon.

I had this problem when I tried the first time. Now not anymore.

Anyway I like it now better than MicroB cause it offers Firefox Sync

Hm, I went to the bbc football website, and a flash video which is normally always available in microb had a msg saying 'incorrect version of flash'.

Anyone else having same issue?

Well beta or not, it's looking like a beatdown to MicroB! It's faster, the UI is better ans the addons are great!

The strange part is that if I run "fennec" from xterm it works, but if I run it from the app menu it doesn't.

Screen turns black for a moment and then it goes back to my desktop. I deleted ~/.mozilla/fennec/ before installing. Maybe I need to reboot? hmm..

OK, after a reboot now Firefox/Fennec starts up normally. :)

Looks a bit faster then 1.0 and 1.1Beta, but not as fast as MicroB or even Opera.
I love FF, it's my default browser on bot Mac and Linux (as well as Win at work), and FF Sync is a killer plugin, but on N900 looks a bit too slow for me.

Is this really new? I think I've had 1.1 some time already and I stil find it inferior to microB (slower and more limited flash capabilities).

FFS whoever said it was as fast as MicroB needs to really be able to tell a difference. It's still slow and sluggish. I dont hate it and I know what it means when a software is in beta. I hope that eventually when it comes out of beta it would be faster. And yes I dont think it's new it's been out for sometime. MicroB kicks ***!

I agree, MicroB is still way faster.

FF is barely useable as it is, and I'm seriously doubting that it will ever change.

I have been using Fennec since the alpha days on the N810 and speed has always been the Achilles heel. I thought it would change when 1.0 came, but it's still the same, also with 1.1 as of today.

It has been a huge disappointment, and I'm having a hard time finding out why. Couldn't they learn from MicroB's rendering or is there a deeper tech-issue, that is beyond my understanding?

I am downloading the update right now. So, I haven't tried it yet. But, I just want to point out that when comparing the speed of MircoB and Firefox you have to take into consideration that MicroB is always going to start faster since it is built in. Therefore, what we need to determine is whether Firefox is fast enough once loaded.

First, this not a beta release. It's Firefox 1.1 final, unless you have installed the wrong file.

Second, I've been using Firefox as the default browser since the 1.0 release. I don't know where some people get the idea it's slower than MicroB or runs flash any differently. I'll admit I've tweaked FF a bit - increased cache memory, etc. but by seat-of-the-pants it's always run as well as MicroB for me. I haven't done any formal testing to speak of though.

MicroB seems to load quicker because it pre-loads into memory at boot, but after both get going I can't tell a significant speed difference. If anything, FF should be faster due to being based on the FF 3.6 engine while MicroB is based on the FF 3.5 engine.

I just prefer the FF UI and it handles some business websites I use better than MicroB.

Can you give a quick rundown of your tweaking? Cause by the seat of my pants, there's no doubt, MicroB is waaay faster.

Verification is needed for this one but I think MicroB is installed on the 256MB NAND flash while FF is installed on eMMC so naturally MicroB is going to be faster.

By slow I refer to scrolling down a webpage where it would pause for half a second and then continue to render. This IMHO is horrible. It spoils the experience and I have never faced this with MicroB. I frankly dont care how long it takes to startup a browser but the browsing itself should be reasonable.

Like I said I will give it the benefit of doubt being in beta but sorry it's not as fast as MicroB.

Edit: and yes I have tweaked FF myself since 1.0 days.

Same here - I love the UI and it's definitely faster than FF 1.01, but still seriously behind MicroB in usability, especially for scrolling web pages. Also, it's often unresponsive when tapping on the url bar. I need t tap 2/3 times before being able to input a new url. Too bad, because it has a great interface. MicroB speed + Firefox UI would be the best...

This new version is awesome , espcailly on overclocked N900 , check you addons! Low Quality flash and fastest scroll in the west are amazing!!

i had used firefox 1.0 n it was really slow in terms of browsing compared to microB but now after the 1.1 i installed.. something seems to hav changed apart from d add ons... the browsing is same as micro B if not better n the ui acc was anytime better than microB so i this apart from flash i think any site shud open equally on both ff n microB.. n now u also hav youtube enabler... though wud stil use microB for flash but this is a gud development by mozilla.

i think it is pretty good. still a little slower than microb but it is way better interface and way better in portrait and way better zooming to divs or spans correctly

ahh indeed it is. They need to change the extra link they have on that page to the 1.1b1 version. That's what was confusing me. Why would they have a special link to an old beta?

It runs with max cpu usage (1GHz) on my N900 :(
With FF I can't use the ovi store and the scrolling speed is quite slow :( MicroB is much faster and I can't visit flash sites ( yes I've installed the plugin) like http://s4.sfgame.de, there is only a black screen. MicroB opens this site!
