Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
I´ve run this benchmark for each browser I´ve installed on my N900. Here are the scores:
MircoB 14352 (with flash) 13592 (without flash) Firefox 1.1 0 (with flash, I had canceled the test, because it doesn´t load the flash test) 23295 (without flash) Opera 10 21145 (without flash, not supported) so Firefox is the fastest browser... but the flash support ist quite bad |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Firefox 1.0 is in the repositories for the N800, but not 1.1. Any one know if 1.1 will install on the N800, or is it only compiled for Freemantle?

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
something i dont understand, since flash is a plug in (on pc...),why cant we install the latest flash as a plugin on FF1.1???
|
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
I have noticed that performance is much better with Sync extension disabled. I am currently keeping it disabled and only enable it once or twice a day to sync with my desktop.

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
1.1RC1 is blazing fast for me on the N810... I got it via this blog post: http://starkravingfinkle.org/blog/20...aemo-1-1-rc-1/
It's faster than the 2.0beta that I had been using and all the 1.0 plugins work! I also did not have to tweak it AT ALL; e.g., increasing the memory to 8gb. Very close to microB speeds. I will gladly trade off a bit of speed for greater compatibility. And again, for you peeps wanting a better gmail experience on this browser, use the microB link. For the n810 it is https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1&ui=1&ov=0 |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Darn it. I wanted to like this, but longer testing has shown it's just a tad too slow and sluggish for me. I found myself dragging the page a lot without anything moving because the system was so busy. Doesn't happen in Microb after overclocking - at least not very often.
I absolutely love the ff interface, but it's back to Microb again. Speed trumps almost everything. |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Is there any keyboard shortcuts to scroll to the Top or to the Bottom of a page? That would make it almost the perfect browser
|
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
the guys have done a great job on version 1.1 its a 100% improvement over 1.0, it's actually on par with MicroB now b/c the added functionality it offers, keep the improvements coming and it will rival my desktop

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
I can't get the soddin thing to run on my N900.
Installed OK, and on first run it wanted to check for plugin compatibility, so I let it do so. After all plugins were updated, the damn thing shuts down, never to run again. Tap the icon, up comes the positioning requester followed by the network connection selection. At this point I see FF shut down in the background, but I still select the APN I want to use (GPRS), then I cancel the positioning requester without allowing GPS access, and lo and behold the damn thing still displays the GPS icon in the status area. No sign of the Firefox window though, but Conky tells me it's running. And the only way to disable the GPS is to restart the phone. I'm open to ideas to get it running for a couple days before I uninstall it and fire up a file manager to clear out all the garbage it leaves behind. |

Some heavy flash stuff - Hulu for instance - will stil not play, or of course stuff requiring flash 10. That still leaves a lot of flash content that will play just fine on a 3G or wifi connection. I'll be glad when flash is gone and we can all forget about it. |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Does anyone know where the Sync "Secret Phrase" is stored? I have a ton of bookmarks that I synced from my old PC. I can sync my N900.
I wiped my PC and wanted to sync back the bookmarks. I know the password, but not the "Secret Phrase" Without that< I can't login on my PC.:-( |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
About Secret Phrase:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/...what_can_I_do_ in Fennec: Options->Sync->Secret Phrase or Addons->Sync->Options->Secret Phrase (I don't know much about it, because I don't use Sync, because I don't have Internet, because {{I don't have WiFi, because my LAN is wired} and {I haven't learnt how to give N900 Internet from PC through USB}}...) Does it help? About Scrolling: Fastest Scroll In The West https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/53305/ If anybody misses Find from MicroB: Find in Page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/130877/ If you would like something else, more features, don't hesitate to write. |

On the left there's an Add-on (puzzle piece) button and a Preferences (2 sliders) button. From Add-on/Sync there's an options button, but that just shows 2 more buttons: Disconnect Sync Now There's no hint of all the items in the PC version. :-( |
Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Options=Preferences=Settings
for me (In Fennec 2 Sync is included into browser, and there is textbox Options->Sync->Secret Phrase; but it's alpha, and crashes frequently, at least for me; so please, don't try installing this alpha until you have all the bookmarks backup-ed) Where did you enter Secret Phrase into Fennec when you synced Fennec first time? Try to look for it here. Edit: I'm going to ask question on http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla-labs-weave about this problem. |

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
I faced some laggy browsing with 1.1. I realized there was some junk from last version 1.0 because my add-ons and bookmarks were still in place after installing 1.1. I wanted a fresh start so i backed up and removed /home/opt/mozilla/fennec folder and then reinstalled 1.1 which has quite a decent performance now.
Still I hope 2.0 brings faster scrolling and rendering and mouse cursor support. |

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
I HATE the secret phrase feature! As if I care so much about the security of my bookmarks that I need TWO password like features. I am always forgetting my secret phrase, so my browser treats me like a spy...

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
Hello, RWFarley!
I have thought about a workaround, which in best case works, in middle case does nothing, in worst case erases bookmarks from mobile. So make a backup of bookmarks first. 1. On PC: enter your login, password and NEW Secret Phrase. It will erase all bookmarks from server; that's why bookmarks from mobile should be back-uped. 2. On mobile, somehow make Sync to be aware of the new Secret Phrase and then click "Sync now". It should merge (I hope; I don't know exact functions of the button, and I cannot test it myself, because I cannot log into Sync on mobile, because mobile has Internet not more than one minute in a month, because...) bookmarks from mobile and computer. In worst case, it will replace bookmarks on mobile with bookmarks from computer (that's why I pledge you to backup mobile bookmarks before starting). |

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
@xuggs: RWFarley has wiped PC and forgotten Secret Phrase, so he cannot take bookmarks to PC from Sync; if he makes new Secret Phrase, he deletes all data from Mozilla Sync server; the only place where he can access his bookmarks now is N900 (PC wiped, server encrypted with forgotten Secret Phrase).
@RWFarley: All settings and bookmarks and extensions of Fennec are stored in /home/user/.mozilla/fennec I hope you can copy this folder and all its contents to a safe place Like in XTerm cp -R /home/user/.mozilla/fennec /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/fennec Then the backup will be stored in Documents->fennec. You can see it in File Manager. It can then be accessed from PC by USB in Mass Storage Mode. In Firefox 3, bookmarks are stored in the places.sqlite file. As you have nothing to lose on PC, I recommend you to try and copy places.sqlite from Fennec on N900 to Firefox on PC. It's stored on PC in folder %APPDATA%/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default and on N900 in directory /home/user/.mozilla/fennec/xxxxxxxx.default You can try copying "places.sqlite-journal", together with "places.sqlite", to your PC. |

Re: Firefox 1.1 is out
This 1.1 release is definitely fast.
My N900 loads the page faster then http://www.technobuffalo.com/blog/mo...hone-smackdown around 11:30 something they are loading www.technobuffalo.com and my N900 is just a fraction faster than the Droid X and way faster than the iPhone -my internet connection is considered avarage good adsl -add ons to FF 1.1: Noscript (total lockdown) and adblock plus - which might be speeding up page loading as well One remark though: I had to overclock the device to make 1.1 smooth. I simply could not expect to receive incoming calls in the minutes I following the opening of a new webpage in a tab in FF1.1. No ringing sound, missed call afterwards. The phone application didn't seem to get through. Only a while after webpages had been loaded the device was displaying incoming mobile phone calls. Now with overclock to max 850mhz everything is smoother and no more such problems. |
