Lyrics is not something I miss on instinctiv and I would hate to see ads coming to the player.

On a side note, will the better song browsing come with the next update?

There is a conflict with the "Theme Customizer".
Since installed, instinctiv doesn't switch into portrait mode.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Can you update to PR1.3 and check if this is working now? It seems to be fixed.. at least it works in my app now.

- as a single "pro" version of the app which will cost more than any single feature (but less than all the features combined if sold separately)

Depends on how many features are "useless" - but I'd most probably go with a single Pro app just because its the known and simple way of doing things.

Woah, landscape mode and very snappy (just like previous version). Thanks a lot :).
Did you implement the tracker config thing too? I noticed it doesn't add ringtones or small audio files that I included in the "not monitored" category in tracker config any more.

Awesome product!

EDIT: Can we have a control on the album images? Right now it just takes the first picture from google search to apply, which is mostly not the case for my library.

I agree, it depends on what the features are and how much they would be...

You could offer both versions if you purchased the gold version you would get all features unlocked otherwise you could just pay for and unlock the features you wanted.

Of course this would make the application more complicated

I would rather have a one time payment. Also, I don't want my phone hammered with ads being downloaded. And, I don't want lyrics, but I am willing to pay for a great program.

We hope that none of the features we work on are useless ;). At a minimum there are just some things we can't offer for free under any circumstances because they cost *us* money (like lyrics, sadly) but also certain server-intense services we'd like to start offering that will run up hardware, power, bandwidth etc costs. It sounds like most people want a free and a pro version with no ads which is also the way we're leaning :)

I'll have to go with modules. Pro version is nice, but I really couldn't care less for online lyrics.

PRO version has the advantage it will probably "eat" newly added features, whereas a per-feature could require cash to upgrade.

However, I'm pretty sure I won't be using all the features and, if tarballed together, it's likely I'll never upgrade to PRO. I'm not going to pay for a PRO version if out of 5 features I want just 1.

Which makes me wonder. Why is there a "OR" in there? What's wrong with taballing all the addon features and the player and calling it a "pro"? Or tarballing all the features in a "pro" pack. We could have the cake and eat it, too.

Just testing out the new version and it took a while initially where it was very slow to do anything - even just rotating from portrait to landscape.

It now seems to have settled down and is performing nicely however I noticed something weird with the rotation...

If you hold the device up in portrait it rotates correctly, if you flip the device around it rotates to landscape correctly... However if you set the n900 down flat it appears to rotate to an intermediate state that is neither landscape or portrait as the coverart is beside the track information as in landscape mode but the screen is still in portrait display...

Looks weird and the cover art is truncated as there is not enough room horizontally to display it due to still being in portrait mode...

Everything else though looks good and after the initial performance issues everything is working great! Thanks for the update, this is definately a good application - now my only other request would be for a simple way to navigate through my 3000+ tracks (1000+ albums) - could something like the character selectors on the phones contact lookup be implemented where you could directly jump to an artist/album/track by clicking an character selector on the right hand side of the screen?

The other thing I just thought of which would also be nice would be that then you are playing music (either from an album, artist or a selected track from the list), when you go back to the list from the now playing screen it should place the list at the last viewed/selected position.

Another vote for one pro version rather than modules.

And also a vote for gesture control. Winter is here, gloves are on, changing tracks with just a waggle using shake2control and default media player is very nice.

And perhaps most un-Maemo-ish of me I must say the main thing that keeps me coming back to Instinctiv is the eye-candy aspect. It just looks nicer than all the other players.

Anywho, good job, keep it comin.

Peter, thanks for the NEW update...but why is the art so small in the landscape mode?? Is it possible to make it bigger. See, one of the coolest things about the portrait mode is the HUGE art display on the screen. That's what makes it so cool

I see flaw design under the portrait mode. Basically, you use the same buttons size as the portrait mode for landscape....that is why it takes up all the space, leaving no space to make the art bigger.

In the real world what this means is:

If you start up in landscape and rotate to portrait no problem. If however, you start it in portrait like from a fixed mount in a car or suttin', you now get a split landscape screen...

I prefer to use a Navigation program in portrait mode as it gives me more "look ahead". Previous portrait only versions of Instinctiv were great and much better than using the OEM player sideways.

Pulling it out of its mount and turning to landscape and then back to portrait solves this problem but it is a PITA that wasn't there before.

I'm back to using OEM now because of this bug in Instinctiv.
If this is all that has changed I'll roll back to Septembers build when I get a chance.
Were there any performance enhancements or was it just this bit?

I am thinking of rolling back to the previous version also because the landscape portrait is too small. The ONLY reason i am attractive to Instintiv is the AWESOME portrait mode w/ BIG ART...if you're creating landscape and make the art small, there is no difference from it compare to the default media player. So i might as well switch back to portrait mode ONLY.

Sorry Peter, that is not going to do it for me. I did suggest whenever you create landscape mode, do it so that the art is as big as the portrait.

paid attention that there are /home/user/instictiv and /home/home/user/instictiv directory, that is not in user dir, is it old fixed bug or noone mentioned?

Mentioned that before (see above in the thread). Another problem is the requirement for Python to install Instinctiv (its installation and removal scripts are written in Python for some reason).

I seem to be the only one having a issue with the version of few days back and the previous version.

The 'oldest' version of the 2 died on me after a few seconds, with no error whatsoever. It has been working fine for a long time. Something in the environment must have changed. But as the software on it is volatile, I can't match the dying behavior with any software (de)install action.

The version from few days back has started once, showed me the main screen for about 2 seconds and then died. Every single time I'm trying to start it now it dies immediately, even without showing the main screen.

Is there any log I can look at to give me a clue what's (not) happening?

I'm still on PR1.2, I'm very happy so far with my machine, no urge to upgrade until all kinks are ironed out in all programs I'm running. My machine is fast (OCed using an extended Ideal profile), stable. All other software is running happily.
I certainly no urge or need to re-flash either :)

Any clue ? Thanks.

I'm not sure how the artwork can be the same size and still oriented correctly. Can you provide a rough sketch of what you mean?

Well you can make the buttons smaller size. And you can realign the buttons to top right and bottom right only...so that you have all the space on the left side for art. Basically dedicate half of the screen for art ONLY.

Ads would ruin the app for me.

I have nothing against paying for the app as it is pretty good.

What would definitely make me buy it straight away is equaliser :)

EDIT: Unfortunately I noticed that it doesn't the support my bluetooth headphones so it's a no-go for me until it supports it.

just installed it. I had earlier used it when it had just come out. I am impressed by how much you have improved it over time. This project is definitely going in the right direction. keep up the good work

suggestions
album covers need to refresh themselves in the background when instinctiv is loaded or when album window is loaded for the first time. But for now, album covers are only loaded when active in window. Big annoyance. Once it is sorted out. In landscape album view, either cover flow can be added or albums can be shown like in default media player. For now, a lot of real estate is empty and only four albums are shown per page

in Playlists window, Add Playlist button is hidden in the menu (i had to search forums on how to create a playlist). Why not instead have a simple + sign to create a playlist in the bottom right corner. It sounds more intuitive this way.

Once in a playlist, Renaming a Playlist, that option can be in the menu.

Similarly once a Playlist is created, (when playlist is empty) Add Songs window should open automatically. If it is already populated, Add Songs option in the menu is already there to further add more songs later.
