Smooth scrolling

How does one do a "smooth" scrolling with the N800?
I think this is crucial if one were to use it as an ebook. I find that the scroll buttons on the left upper corner of the device gives jerky scrolling.

Or is there an application that gives smooth scrolling when reading an ebook?

fbreader scrolls one page at a time. I think it's the best way. OTOH, this doesn't answer your question, but it is the best ebook reader out there.

I do wish that it has the smooth scrolling too. I've been using other ebook readers on my N80 (mobile phone), Palm PDA, WM5 PDA etc. So used to it, but I do prefer the N800's larger and sharper screen. Would be best if FBReader could do a smooth scroll as well...then all we need to do is to hold the N800 and read....wouldn't have to click on anything else.

Oh, you mean auto-scrolling. No, FBReader doesn't do that...

Yet. It is on the planned features list:
http://only.mawhrin.net/fbreader/

and as the author is pretty frugal with updates, it might come sooner than you think. Just drop him a line on his page if you're really impatient about it.

One thing to remember: different people mean different behaviour when they say "auto-scrolling". So if you decide to write about it (fbreader@googlegroups.com), please describe how you see the feature and what kind of parameters for the feature you see. That will greatly help to have the feature earlier than later.

Hi Misha,

Thanks for the tip. I've joined the Google groups and left my suggestion with as much description as I could.

Where can I get fbreader ? When I went to the Maemo applications listing, the install file is greyed out.

Re: Smooth scrolling

May I add that I tried auto-scrolling on Palm's Ereader (back in the days when I was still a sucker for DRM-ed books that you were only allowed to read on the platform they chose to port their reader to) and didn't like it very much.

I found it impossible to get the scrolling speed right, but that's probably due to the fact that I have a weird reading style, alternating between speed-reading and sucking in the atmosphere really slowly. I also tend to jump back and forth a lot which, astonishingly, hasn't been translated into an auto-scroll pattern yet.
