N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
So I was at the park playing volleyball and left my baby on the ground...came back to find it gone...call the phone but it was turned off...I knew it then it was stolen...(the bastard who took it will never realize the full potential of this mobile computer...what a waste on his part..)
So I went out and bought a used mytouch3g...why? cuz I can't justify spending another 300+ for another n900. Also the single fact that my house has bad receptions and I could barely hear people when talking to them in my house. This was the first nokia device/phone that was giving me trouble. Even when I have good reception, some call will be super low and I have to put on speaker just to hear them. It might just be a hardware problem. If it wasn't for this problem, I would have buy another n900 already. (and I only spent 100 for the mytouch...I know...I know...it's almost 1/3 of the n900 already...I guess 1/3 of price will only yield 1/3 of usabillity...) Using android just made me realize how much it sucks. Not to bad mouth them but the browser doesn't compare to microb at all. I can't believe I regretted choosing N900 over Nexus One. The only thing android and iphone have on the N900 really is the appstore/market... So the lesson? Um...bring a cheapo phone with you to the park instead of your precious baby...lol...I should be laughing but it's the only way to mask the hurt...:D |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(

Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Sorry to hear about your loss :(
Did you call your service provider and report the stolen phone, so they can block it from being used. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
I am giving them thieves a week to enjoy the phone (and pray they will return it to me...unlikely tho)...then I am calling NOKIA to report the phone as stolen...or should I call Tmobile USA even tho I bought the phone unlocked through newegg....
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
dude report it as stolen right away, you don't want to be liable for any extra charges they make. also i think if you report it stolen to the police there is some chance they will recover it and return it to you one day, usually thieves get caught eventually.
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Charges nothing. The device might be implicated in something illegal. It's unlikely you'll be blamed, but, if nothing else, you'll have to donate some time to writing detailed accounts of your whereabouts.
Also, the charges. Report it stolen. If it returns, you can report it unstolen. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
that's why an app called 'iamhere' exists :)
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
I guess your insurance company did not want to replace it for you?
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
sorry to hear that yo. but they are right. should report that the device is stolen on the spot, if found, report again.
but if the one who picked that up has a golden heart, should've get a number from your contacts and try to call. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
DIdn't buy insurance...lol...I usually always have the phone in my pocket or always right next to me or playing with it all the time..people even get mad at me for playing with it too much sometime...the one time I let my guard down...hmm...sad....I would be more angry at myself if I got it wet or drop...but stolen...just being at the wrong place and the wrong time...I guess I will report it to Nokia...
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
sorry for your loss :(
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
thanks...I can't do anything with this android phone...lol...except for going to market and download games...the only fun I had was rooting it and putting Froyo on it...but I would have had more fun with putting Froyo on my N900...:'(
but I think this may be my last Nokia phone until they put out something that will really catch my attention. The N8 looks okay but feature riched...if symbian^3 matures up, maybe I will consider it...I always have a soft spot for quality camera + hardware...two things HTC lack... |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Am ******** about you. You're so ******** :D
Wait until october and get a new N900, that would be much cheaper because of the new meego devices. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
sorry for your loss dude
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
sorry for your loss here two, thanks for this post, it was very helpful for me, because i, like you, regreted getting my n900 for a google nexus one, now **** android, long live maemo 5 .
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
@Elie
So true...i think many people wonder who could have been if they've gone with the Iphone or Nexus one but many of those who left the N900 to android or iphone will miss MicroB greatly...and Maemo5 is a great os as it is...if only Nokia had gotten OVI to work properly.... Another thing, what's stopping the users from creating their own market/app repositories for the N900...avoid App Manager all together too... |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Sorry to hear that. Actually i lost my n900 in the gym. I went ahead and bought another n900. Recently i was thinking of giving my n900 to my nephew and buy the dell streak until n9 was released. But i realized that i can never live without the n900. So brought another for him.

Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Nokia also lacks the hype factor. They are just too laid back. Maemo has so much potential but Nokia dont seem to know it. Finns are brilliant people but maybe too melancholic for their own good. They are just too nice. Hopefully Anssi will kick act as tough as he looks.
I have not touched my ipod touch ever since I got the N900 in december. It does annoy me but all I have to do is tame it and all is fine. Nokia make the best hardware, HTC is ok, Android ok and iPhone OS sugar coated and shiny UI but a bore plus poor RF, not hardcore enough. Just wait until Nokia wakes up and takes back its crown. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
good thinking man, look even the home screens on the n900 feels way better, the media capabilities are 1000 times better than any android or iphone ?(who goes from a nokia n900 to an iphoney !!, thats not logic ), and the open source capabilities (take overclocking for example any bimbo can do it ), can it be done so easily on the android ? (can it be done at all), this is the best device in the market.
and is there repositories for users other than the normal ones (extras....), the mozilla repositories and the my-maemo repositorie ??? i heard there is one for google chrome on the n900, but i couldn't find it, or install it, i still want the google chrome on this great device any help guys ? |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Damn dude that sucks i feel for u, my brother let me borrow his 3g slide and man i just coudn't get use to it the quality sucks the screen resolutions is not that good either . . . as for maemo 5 i dont see the end in sight . . . .

Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
If you have home owner's or renter's insurance, it may be covered. You should check. Although the replacement cost may below your deductible.
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
myTouch 3G is the worst phone. I made the mistake of getting one with a tmo contract - sold it one month later.
I had it rooted, overclocked, etc., and I still hated it. |

Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
cant say i feel it for you.. too bad tho.
i tried froyos browser in nitdroid and i didnt find it that bad?!? flash and everything.. what the real difference that i wasnt seeing? |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Sorry to hear that :(... Now about your replacement choice, you should have bought a Hd2:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/03/h...-mass-consump/ or a Nexus One. As far as hardware goes the mytouch 3g is not any different from the G1 wich are 1st generation Android devices. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
No doubt the 'new owner' will be on these boards shortly whining about some aspect or other. I can see it now.
"I stole this N900 and it is a piece of crap. Portrait mode is only partly supported, USSD doesn't work, and when I reflashed it it sent a message to Nokia! The only reason I grabbed it was because I thought it was an iPhone." Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I got nailed for over $3000 worth of cell phones when my home was burglarized. I was left with only the three I had on me at the time. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
As for feeling sorry for you, I can't really. How could you leave your phone on the ground and walk away from it?
Anyway, I agree with tzsm98. The thief prolly picked up the phone and was like "whoa I just got an awesome looking phone". Then he took it home, turned it on and was like "WTF?" He's prolly trying to find YOU just so he could kick your *** for making him waste his time with the N900. Watch your back... |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
thanks for the laughs, guys...lol...I learned an expensive lesson the hard way...lol...I bought the mytouch obviously not to replace my stolen phone but to have a usable phone that will also cater to my curious self too...I just can't justify another 300+...I am planning to get an HD2 but if I was to spend that much, why not just another N900...lol...
@Ajjara - Your N900 box should have a sticker on the side that also have the IMEI number written on it. This is all Nokia need, I think. |

I would but if I was going to spend that much, I would have just bought another N900...lol...but I'm too poor atm to be spending that much...and Android's browser suck pretty bad...:(
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
You not got the tracking application that tells you where it is? oh no thats on Android.... :)
|
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
Random idea, normally provider's GPRS networks are NAT'd off from the outside world, so you'd obviously need your providers help with this one.
They shouldn't have a problem tracking the IMEI, and seeing what tower it is connected to, and if there is an ongoing GPRS session (more than likely). Then provided you had SSH installed on your phone, speak to the right people, SSH into your phone, and run a few commands taking pictures, scanning for wifi networks, and getting the GPS co-ordinates. |
Re: N900 got stolen...bought a mytouch3g...end result..:(
so what does this iamhere app do and i'm guessing it's in extras DEV??? i haven't put that repository on my device as i'm a n00b and even though there's hundreds of threads now about how to flash your device, i still won't do it and at this moment in time, my phone is working perfectly (bar vodafone's dodgy data pricing plan as of june 2010!!).

Nokia won't do anything. What can they do?
You just need to call t-mobile and get that sim canceled. That is all you can do. Cell phones are never found. Cops don't go around checking imei's. |
