Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

@Mitrandir
A bug report:
telescope segfaults if ~/.osso/menus/applications.menu doesn't exist or is empty, causing a reboot loop if it is enabled as a startup service.
This file does not exist until the applications menu is personalized by the user. Also, this file may become empty accidentally if the disk fills out while installing a package, when the installed app tryes to update the menu.

Thanks, maacruz! That was serious indeed.

Sorry that it has took a week to fix this. Solution was simple, but i'm really busy at this time ☹

Telescope 2.0~rc12
  • Fixed bug from previous maacruz' post
  • Now Telescope package has the icon!! Icons is © Kroll

I've just submitted rc12 to autobuilder, so it will take a bit of time to reach the repository

Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

Oh and talking about icons, would it be possible to make the statusbar icon something other then a clone of the applications taskbar icon? Yea i am still using the maemo4 layout...

Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

Mitrandir meant Telescope package icons which you can see in Application manager or so. It looks like a galaxy in telescope task switcher window.
«Telescope. Switch the galaxy.» or something :D

Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

Yep, icon isn't a major change, especially for users who already have telescope installed :) But the icon was waiting for inclusion in next release for a couple of weeks. And now the bugfix brought it to life.

Anyway, i'm happy that telescope now has the icon at last :)

Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

Is Telescope not releasing the X resources related to window thumbnails?

Open an app, switch to Telescope window thumbnails and switch back to desktop. X memory usage increases but doesn't return to its original size when the app is closed. Repeat with more apps and X continues to grow even when all apps have been closed. Restarting Telescope returns X to its original size.

Opening the same app twice doesn't increase X's size which makes me think Telescope might be caching the images but either not expiring them or has a long expiration time and not using a cache size limit because my X can hit 50-100meg.

Re: [Announce] Telescope: Graphical task switcher with thumbnails

No, Telescope doesn't cache previews, because they are supposed to be real-time, so it doesn't make sense to cache them. Telescope also doesn't remember which applications did you started.

So if the reason of that behavior is Telescope then it is probably a bug :(
Intent look at destructors of main classes in the sources doesn't gave me idea why this could happen. It seems that i free all resources accurately. But of course, i could have something forgotten.

By the way, Telescope doesn't deal with applications at all, it deals only with windows. So it would be interesing how it will behave if you will open several windows of same application (XTerminal for example).

I don't have my N810 near me at the moment. But i will test and try to fix this soon.
