Nice to se Ovi staffers posting here but I doubt very much they'll be able or willing to engage in any meaningful debate regarding the massive failure that Ovi is becoming on N900 - it's just not the Nokia way. |

Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
Hi, all!
Wow, lots of comments! I’ll try to respond to most of you to my best abilities: @bchliu: I’m really sorry you found the comic insulting, that was most definitely not our purpose. Like I said before, it was just something fun we wanted to do for our Ovi Blog fans, not to insult N900 owners or anyone else. @imperiallight: Do you mean the app “AngryMan”? No, it was absolutely not a promotion for that app :) And actually, the name of the comic ended up being “Old School”. “Angry Man” was simply a part of the pre-promotion for the series. Kind of like a code name. @gerbick: I LOL’d @ Mel Gibson… touché ;) @PradaBrada: Sorry you feel that way! The initiative was definitely not meant as a “sick joke”, nor are we full of “bad taste” (at least I don’t think so =)… so again, sorry if the initiative offended you, that was most definitely not the purpose. @Milhouse: Thank you for your detailed analysis, I really appreciate your views (even though I don’t personally think our comic was “crap” :) ). We do have quite a large group of fans at the Ovi Blog (which is why we made the comic in the first place), but obviously there’s still people we need to win over, like you guys here >> we have some more work to do :) @kureyon: Exactly! @ysss: Thanks! *hearted* :) Don’t worry, I ain’t going nowhere (except back to work now, LOL)! We definitely appreciate all the valuable feedback and continue to use this (as well as other) forums for some “stalking” ;) Plus, I have a thick skin ;) @sepehrsfmech & Milhouse: Most of the comments to the post came during the weekend, like they almost always do to our Friday posts, and even though us Nokians work damn hard, every now and then we do take our weekends off ;) This is why sometimes it takes us until Monday to respond to a comment that came on e.g. Saturday. Hope you understand. The team is just now going through the newest comments. Also, we try our best to respond to every comment, but sometimes even we don’t have the answers to the trickiest questions, which is when we have to consult other people in the organization, which might take a while. So patience, please! @slartibartfass: OMG, I kind of LOL’d! :) -Niini |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
You know... due to your upbeat attitude, I truly wish you guys the best of luck.
And why not let this community come up with a couple of comic ideas. |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
Ovi Blog fans?
If these people exist, they need to get a life. XD |

Hey, that's actually a really good idea! Do you really think there would be widespread interest in this forum for such a joint effort...? :) That would be *amazing*! I'll see if I'll get people excited about this internally & get back to you! -Niini |

Your responses were generally upbeat and acknowledged the problems instead of defending them (mostly, anyway). You acknowledged the criticism as take-aways instead of dismissing them, which earns the MOST respect from me in any organization. Very well done, Niini. Thanks for visiting us, as you do! I hope you get promoted to high places. We certainly would prefer such people in those high places. |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
Hehe I must say I liked the community version of the comic better than the official one. :) A little more ... edge there ;D
Hmm I just do wonder that why these comics were hyped this much, but I suppose it was actually the TMO community that did the hyping in the end. But the Ovi team needs to understand, that life with the N900 for most is constant anticipation for scraps that never seem to come. Therefore if we see things like these ("Smthn coming sometime soon!") we just think "PR 1.3, The Ovi Store games, MeeGo, must be one of these!" and in the end nothing can satisfy our expectations. So better to just call it what it is as soon as possible. :) |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
yes, community presumed that when ovi blog has exciting news, it has to concern maemo.
the desperation is outstanding. I feel pity for everyone who has made a bad call by buying N900. I've enjoyed all the time except one month my brand new device was in service because of random reboots. (should have used the DOA thing but decided to see if it could be fixed by software) and the device is still the best out there for me so no complaints still. These devices are always compromises and very common additude here is to take iPhone plus android plus bada and compare the combination to N900. not very fair isn't it? |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
Ossipena, that the hardware is good or something else works, doesn't excuse some very simple customer care mistakes that Nokia has done recently.
|
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...

I wasn't referring solely to HW. yes, nokia has made mistakes but don't blame them from everything starting with someones pretty unrealistic hype about [insert flash 10 or similar here]. here are too many guys critisizing n900, one without even owning one in the first place in the first row. and other towns fools shouting the loudest as an angry mob. |

@@ssi: if you would turn off your (superbly selective) memory filter for a second, you may recall that another maemo related news was also being pre-hyped at the same time period.

Thanks for writing back. But really, I would love to have seen the news to say that OVI Maps free navigation or something was getting released on the N900 instead of this comic. I do understand that things were released in jest, but to hype up a comic is really no joke to N900 users who are already feeling quite lonely and left out as it is with support. I would really really appreciate if you can send this back up the chain of command and tell them that N900 users have paid some good money for their phones - as much as any upcoming N8 or the classic N97 (which I also owned previously). We would love to see some support or commitment from them rather than seeing a flimsy comic of sorts. The sad truth of the matter is, the N900 is nearly dead according to Nokia (less than a year after its original release) - and the only thing keeping it alive are ALL the dedicated developers in this forum who have done so well at maximising the use of its capabilities. It would be rather nice if OVI can spring through a surprise of "OVI Maps" or any of the Nokia Value-add applications that have been so successful on the Symbian cousins. |

Hi Niini, thanks for the genuine reply, much appreciated!

I'm obviously not suggesting you are the person responsible for all of Ovis ills, but if you can feedback to the right people that N900 users pretty much detest Ovi (and in many cases, refuse to use Ovi Store as it's so bad and rips them off thanks to the defective/unfair payment system) then maybe something will have been achieved. If not, Ovi is just going to go from bad to worse and no amount of light hearted blog posts will change that. I genuinely wish you all the best for the future, but your job will be made a lot easier if the Ovi Service can be improved to the point of actually being pleasant to use! :) |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
Hi, guys!
Another long group response coming through, bear with me… :) @danramos: Thank you so much for your kind words, that seriously made my day :) Our aim here at Ovi is to listen, not shout (because how else would anyone learn anything? =)) and give respect to get respect. We also try to keep it very closely in mind that it’s you guys that we’re doing everything for. It sounds cheesy but it’s really what our daily work revolves around. Truth! So thank you again for your comment! And also, if I give you my boss’ number, can you tell that bit about promoting me to him as well? :D LOL just kidding! @cjp: True, I understand your point & I also understand your frustration. The only thing I can tell you as of right now, though, is that the teams are working very hard to bring new features to the Meamo and Meego platforms & enhancing the functionality of Ovi Maps, so at the moment we’re asking everyone to be patient & wait for the updates. When there are news/updates, we will *definitely* broadcast them widely on all possibly channels! At least I can personally make sure that the Ovi Blog picks up on all Ovi news =) @bchhliu & @Milhouse: No problem & thank you both for your feedback! My reply to @cjp applies to you as well =) I have forwarded all the incoming comments & feedback to the appropriate teams, so they are definitely aware of the situation and are working continuously to make our services better. And you’re right, Milhouse: as that process moves forward, our work in marketing becomes much easier & credible. I WILL make you like our comics one day, dammit! :) Also, I just noticed there’s another thread about this same topic, I think I’ll now head over there to give my two cents… =) Keep the feedback coming, guys! You never know who's lurking on your discussions... ;) -Niini |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
the ovi store is still beta, still has not got the big new games/apps that were meant to be released months ago and throw in all the payment stuff-ups.... and youre making comics ?! WTF, are you serious? how many customers you think have been lost? certainly none gained. !
|
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
I think it's nice of you to stop by, but as of right now to me(no offense), you sound like nothing more than some PR rep that Nokia has sent to these boards in efforts to bring peace for whatever reason - whether it's to gain back a small portion of your customers or simply to just retain Nokia's image.
I know for a fact that I'm not the first disappointed customer you've heard, but I also know that I won't be the last. If all you can do is "pass/forward the message on to the correct team(s)", then that means you basically have no power whatsoever in changing our situations. Why bother intervening then? PR, simply PR. I'm not denying that it's not important because it certainly is, but we're already past that now - don't you think? But this isn't to be confused with the fact that I know that no single person has the power to change our positions. I just wish it were someone here that is actually on the team or in charge of such, that could possibly influence the direction where this is all heading. Personally, I don't see that happening with someone from the Ovi Blog "forwarding" our comments and suggestions. Why? Because I know for a fact that we've been heard, but after all this time, I believe we're just being ignored. &add: I'll start believing when I start seeing REAL results. Not overpriced apps on the Ovi store, false promises, or being some 'ghost' that just lurks around giving the impression that "Nokia still listens!" but forgetting to add the part that "What goes in one ear, goes out the other". Sugar coat your responses any way you want, but I know for a fact that you're not capable of changing any of this. All you can do is preserve Nokia's image because you're either employed or affiliated with them. In the real world where we live, at least where I live, I deal with reality and the way things really are - not the way it's presented to me by someone else. -- My intention isn't to offend or make this personal, but all my words are towards the general direction of the Ovi team. |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
@Ovi_Blog
Could I publicly ask you something? Do you yourself, anyone you know or work with, actually use the N900? I mean as a daily phone, not just as a test bench. |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
I think the Ovi Blog is doing a good job, you're promoting the Ovi goods and services and that's great. Let's get real - writing anything positive about Ovi is a tough job at times so all you Ovi Blog-ians should be applauded for the effort :)
"To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go" For 90% fo the Ovi users, ie those with Symbian based handsets, Ovi Blog is relevent and your updates are useful. But there's a dichotomy with Ovi, there's the plentiful feast available at the Symbian table, but only a light snack at the Maemo buffet. And what's there has been sitting out uncovered for days and it don't look too appetising either. You already know from the comments here that the Maemo side of Ovi feels pretty close to neglected. So when Angry Man in the comic shreds his map to use the orienteering bliss of Symbian's Ovi Maps, it's more likely the N900 owner is throwing his handset in the bin and rooting around in the back of the cupboard for the old atlas his great grandfather left behind after the war. The sail voyage maps of Columbus before discovering America are probably more accurate and useful. For some odd reason Ovi Maps keeps reporting I am in the middle of the Irish sea and I promise I am not that good a swimmer.. So anyway I'd say keep up the good job, the negative comments here do not reflect on you and what you do :) Rather, it's aimed at the frustration of how little of what you do that we can get involved with and enjoy as well. Pity us little urchins as we reach our empty step 4 of 5 N900 shaped bowl towards you and meagerly ask "Please blog... may we have some more?" |
Re: Angry man...... This time, he's really angry...
I have to say I agree with Milhouse, flashy cartoons are all good and well, but its the product you guys need to focus on - not advertising.

No offense taken :) I can assure you, though, that no one sent me here (I came here to take part in the discussion because I wanted to), nor am I just repeating PR phrases (I don't work @ PR). It was not my intention to come off as a "sugar-coater" (is that even a word?), I just simply wanted to clear out misconceptions, period. Also, perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'lurk', because we here (meaning: not just me) do more than just follow discussions (here and on other forums); we use the information to change things, and this is a fact. Sometimes it takes a while, sometimes it doesn't; sometimes it's something big, sometimes it's a small (but crucial) fix. I suppose all I can ask you & everyone to do is believe me when I say that we are (again, not just me, but team after team after team) working at improving our products constantly, and if you don't believe me, well... that's obviously within your rights as well. We will just have to show it then in a concrete way. And this is exactly what we're working towards. You have my word :) -Niini |

Of course you can, and I will answer publicly: of course I do :) I would have to be quite full of myself to march over to a forum about Maemo if I don't even own or use a Maemo device, eh? ;) I use my N900 (and my N97 mini, just for work email though) religiously, and so do about all of the people I work with. And yes, I use mine every day. You can see for yourself what my N900 baby looks like :) She haz bling... It's kind of unfinished, though, because I ran out of supplies just a couple of rows before the bottom... and I should probably add some kind of a "don't try this at home"-disclaimer to that as well, LOL... ;) -Niini |
