Just to make sure, it wont lock at a 1000 mhz if i choose to set it at that number. I mean it will differ in hz depending what i'm doing on the phone so in rest/idle it wont blast at a 1000 hz but zero or 250 or what it will be?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

no it seems to scale fairly well aslong as charger/usb not connected

thanks dj_steve i tested it and it works good and it doesn't lock @ 1000 so it's very good

ok folks, i aint skilled enough to do this myself so im putting out this request to others on here.

im looking for a dev(s) who can write a maemo app to auto install nitdroid and dependancys as well as offer user a few options for custom settings.

anyone up for a challenge :)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

Could put it as a [Request] in applications section if nobody takes it up here

dj_steve 2010-08-05 17:48

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

ill do that now as not many of the app devs read in here i suspect

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

my opinion/observation:

overclocked nitdroid improves performance of the device and doesn't lock at 1 ghz all the time, in fact it is much better than before since the minimun is now 125mhz. so it saves battery IMO, before overclocking it stays at 500-600mhz (based on my observation using setcpuoverclock software). I attached a photo of an overclocked nitdroid showing it's maximum 1ghz

The kernel code in NITdroid is the same as in Titan's power kernel.

Also, we are using the same parameters Titan has suggested on his OC wiki page.

Cheers!

now whoever has this new setting running, please test battery time.
however dont let it sleep all the time as we have to make up to the fact that the cellular modem isnt up. just see how long you can go without charging

I thought that ToJa92 would have written a script for this.
If that is not enough a developer would "only" have to create a GUI for that (which you should mention in the thread) :)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

we want gui to ask other quesions also like give options for overclocking etc

I am working on a shell script but I don't know anything about creating GUI's(and I don't have any time to learn ATM either). The eventual programmer could use my script as a base and adapt as necesarry.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

@steve did the oc'ing in NITdroid yesterday with your guide and when i look in /sys/device/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state through astro file manager it seams to only use 250/500/600 mhz, there's no activity in other freq at all? What gives, did i get it wrong, is it not oc'ed? When i look at the available freqs it goes from 125 to 1150 so my impression is that it is oc'ed. So is it because i didn't do anything haevy like game or such. I did watch some trailers at gametrailers.com (wich was really chubby) but otherwise nothing.

dj_steve 2010-08-06 09:15

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

sounds like its not, youd see times in the higher states if done correctly

OCing works fine with me and i tested it by cpufrequancy program and works with 1000 mhz and pass stress test without any errors for long time

Is Flash 10.1 accelerated by the GPU in Nitdroid?

Mine works fine aswell now ;)

Made the same mistake twice when downloading file, wrong directory. Reread steves pm and fixed it with cd'ing to the right directory :) (Didn't se the /etc/ at the end... twice lol)
Ps: Disregard that pm i send you :o

@steve i see i graet difference between 600 and the 900 i'm at now when watching trailers at gametrailers.com, they are close to being watchable/fluent. Will try it at a higher clocking later on and see how that turns out.

Thanks for the oc'ing steve and jay-c :D

is 1000mhz the ultimate maximum for overclocking Nitdroid? can we edit it to 1150 mhz?

It do work, mine is at 1.1 ghz at the moment. You just have to edit the power.conf the right way ;)

You need to ad it in the line where it says use: and remove it from the lines that says avoid:

I'm turning back again for the moment being cause i didn't feel that much difference between 1000 and 1100, well not enough ;)

Ps: pm me if you can't make it work :)

e: remember to back up the file, so you don't need to redownload...

Done the OC. Seems better. Less Force Close/Waits.

Is their a widget to display current clock speed ?

hoping someone can tell me the exact text to type for the partitioning bit, as i know nothing about it and dont want to create problems before ive even started!:

Quote:

* in below command REPLACE the <SIZE> text with your choosen fat32 size

Code:
umount /dev/mmcblk1p1
sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF
,<SIZE>,C
,,L
,,
,,
EOF
im using a sandisk 16gb memory card but its (total) capacity is listed as 14.8gb on my pc?
also im not sure if im supposed to remove the < > symbols from the <SIZE> part of the command:)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

how do i boot NITdroid then?
when i turn the phone on i see something saying 'press a key,
1. NITdroid' or something like that
but i can only boot maemo if i press enter,
pressing 1 shows me a quick preview of some screen i dont see long enough to be able to read what it says,
pressing 0 shuts the phone down

i copy/pasted everything from post 1 into xterm, but didnt understand any of it so i wouldnt know what im doing wrong to be honest, wasnt sure when to press enter when pasting nto xterm, so just hit enter every time, also my overclocking buttons dont work anymore, baffled!

edit:
not much happened when doing part 6 so im thinking maybe thats where my problem is, also entered the part at the end of post1 about titans kernel, but my overclocking buttons still dont work anymore,
the part6 output:

/ # cd /
/ # mkdir /and
mkdir: cannot create directory '/and': File exists
/ # mount -t ext3 -o noatime,rw /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
/ # cd /home/user/MyDocs
/home/user/MyDocs # bzip2 -d NITDroid-N900-0.0.5-4-Final.tbz2

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

forget all that its working fine now, re-did step 6 and it seemed to do more than it did first time (more like i closed xterm before it finished whatever it was doing first time!)

Firstly, top work dj_steve and anyone else involved in NITDroid.

Just wondering what the story is with phone radio support ?

Is it coming along ?
Or have you hit a roadblock ?

Also, once all hardware is working in NITDroid, do you see us ever getting to the point where we can make NITDroid the primary OS running from the 256MB OneNAND flash (with Maemo running from the SD Card ?) ?

phone support is slow to do.

i doubt maemo would be moveable to sd as we still use parts of it heavily for things like battery charging etc

i can run 720p videos with nitdroid?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

Hi all,

I tried the automated setup first and it failed to load although was able to get the white bootmenu with 3 options.. I found loads of problems so started again, with the manual method. Well I started on Page 1 of the thread and ran through each step. Got the the very end and rebooted as it suggested and the same white boot menu came up but this time only had 1 option on the menu and that was Nitdroid.

after 30 seconds it counts down and automatically loads a lot of lines. I don't see anything that suggests a problem. after about 40 seconds it stops with a white cursor in the top left hand corner. it just sits there not moving. - I am guessing this is not right.

Any ideas as to why it's doing this?

Only way to start again - take battery out and replace, in which case the whole cycle starts again. I opened the keyboard and pressed U with the USB cable in and managed to stop the boot, but here there a little icon below the Nokia now...

Any ideas how I get it back to Maemo... or is that history now! - I am happy to flash it if that is the only solution...

Cheers,

Mike
p.s. Does the automated way of doing things via the Nitdroid site work?

Yes. Using RockPlayer. BUT, it will only play it at around 2-3fps. If you overclock Nitdroid to 1GHz, it plays at around 5-8fps. Still not watchable by any means. :p
