Has NITDroid got battery/power management fixed?
When I boot to nitdroid and play for around 5 mins, back into maemo a part of my battery has already gone (1 to 2 tabs). I know it flashes a kernel twice, but that can not take much power.

Bratag 2010-08-11 01:59

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

Post MB 2.9 install how are we meant to overclock - it seems as though several of the packages conflict with kernel-power-settings and without those utils I see no way of OCing.

I'm not convinced that is a NITDroid problem; I think the action of rebooting just eats that much power. Whenever I make settings changes in the Black Plastic Theme control panel in Maemo and choose the Auto-reboot option, I lose more than 10% of my battery during each reboot.

Everything works great here with the update,

Just curious, what did the patch files do exactly ?

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

Well I have to say the new version of multiboot both delights and annoys me - it truly breaks titans kernel all to hell by removing several of the dependencies required for fcam drivers and overclocking in general.

On the plus side its easy to configure.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

Well, I did something wrong. All of a sudden xterm said it couldn't find the files for the new NITDRoid kernel or the maemo kernel after downloading and following Jay-Cs post. I turned off the N900 and now I don't have anything to boot, not even Maemo. Phone says to press a button to panic. Wow, I can't believe that happend. That is the first time that I have messed up my n900 since I got it. Sad part is that I didn't do a backup. Now THAT was stupid. I got over confident that everything would just work since I have been able to get aall other NITDroid installs on the first try.

Reflashed.....What a pain to see the N900 Welcome screen at 1:06AM... sigh

Last backup on 7/16/2010....that means I lost my new contacts from a family trip on 7/31/2010....

Goes to bed....guess I didn't need to call them anyway....

Press 0 in multiboot to boot Maemo.

when the multiboot screen comes up, make sure your keyboard is open and press zero. that should boot you back into maemo.

I'm on travel and always use the Usb cable via laptop for charging..is my battery drained when i have my USB plugged onto laptop, light is SOLID orange, then it will load the multiboot and fades away and i guess it charges abit again and loops again...etc.. oh boy this is frustrating :(

P.S. So I would be pressing the "P" key if i'm not mistaken?

yes, the P key. if the orange light is on, its charging. leave it for 15 minutes then and give it another go.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

*RELIEF* Ok i saw something else but faded away. Now it's charging with the slow orange blinker. I had it plugged on my laptop earlier and it was charging and looping so wasn't going anywhere. Now that I know to press P/zero key, i'll give it another try (cross my fingers) within 15 minutes..

In the meantime, is it ok to format that 16GB SD card from my PC? I don't even know what's on there when i started the steps 1-5 (that's where i got stuck and gave up)...

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

guys no luck...still charging..it would accept my "0" but then the screen just dissappears and seems like it just shuts off. Should I take out my MicroSD card and try booting? I want to remove that multiboot!!!

it would say booting - please wait ....and shuts down...i guess it needs to charge more or something?

that is actually a bug in kernel power, not in multiboot.

power39 was suppose to add support for multiboot by introducing the kernel-power-bootimg package, which replaces kernel-power.
however, kernel-power settings still depends on kernel-power, meaning you cant install it with kernel-power-bootimg!!!

nothing we can do in multiboot to fix that :(

sorry mate to hear that.

the problem is you did not finish the installation.

Try removing the battery for 10 seconds.

When you press 0 multiboot reflashes the kernel if it needs to and reboots the phone. Leave the SD card in, I don't see it causing an issue.

Also, when you are doing this, make sure that the usb cable is not plugged in. Mine behaves strangely if it is.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

You can also start up without the sd-card, if you put out the kickstand. If all the tips don't work - I hope you've an update - than only flash a fresh maemo and install nitdroid and multiboot again - if you do everything in the right way, it's running very well.

Another question:

Is there a way to get android saving it's data (cam, wallpaper, apps things etc.) to the vfat mmc partion, than to the Maemo /home/user/MyDocs ?!

Cause I hate this disorder at my main maemo folder ... there is normaly everything clearly sorted. ;)

OHMYGOODNESS i'm so glad i'm back in Maemo (no offense to NITDroid as i'm just too dumb to set it up). My battery is very LOW as suspected. Now how do I remove this multiboot???

I have it plugged onto my USB for simply charging now...need the extra juice!

Thanks SimonGie for walking me step by step through this. I really appreciate the assistance! I unplugged the USB and removed battery for 10 secs and it booted!

Welcome back! ;)

I THINK but I'm not quite sure - removing at package manager, should be the most common way.

EDIT: Or use the nitdroid-uninstaller, should also work with multiboot 0.2.9 and also removes the nitdroid kernels.

Can anybody confirm this please?!

yep package man should work

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 & Multiboot Development And Announcement Thread

?? kernel-power-bootimg does not replace kernel-power, it just provides the zImage without fiasco header (e.g. for kexec). kernel-power contains the fiasco'ed zImage that is always deleted by the flasher after flashing. kernel-power-settings depends on kernel-power-flasher.

Thanks bud! Ok is it Enhanced boot loader for Maemo that I'm uninstalling from Application Manager? Just want to make sure before I hit the button LOL!!!

OOps, also have kexec-tools and Maemo 5 PR12 kernel for multiboot...

Yes the "Enhanced boot loader for Maemo" is the right one. You can read there in the subtitle: "Maemo ULTimate BOOTloader - so it is Multiboot.

Kexec can also be removed, and I think also the packages "Maemo5 PR12 kernel" and "nitdroid-kernel" should be no problem.

OR: Ur run the nitdroid-uninstall script - cause it's also removing multiboot and kernel packages! ;)

Yeah my mistake.

kernel-power-settings depends on kernel-power-flasher, which conflicts with multiboot.

So result is can't install kernel-power-settings.

Okay so here is a short how-to:

1. download the nitdroid-uninstall file from here, and copy it to /home/user/MyDocs - so its were all your standard maemo folders are (i.e. downloads , documents ect.)

2. start xterm in maemo

3.
Code:

sudo gainroot
or
Code:

root
4.
Code:

mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and -o noatime
5.
Code:

cd /home/user/MyDocs
6.
Code:

sh nitdroid-uninstaller
This is it! - Hope not the Jacko way! :D

stuck here!
mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and -o noatime

mounting /dev/mmcb1k1p2 on /and failed: No such file or directory

I think i got it!!! I just put this after sudo gainroot!

dpkg -r multiboot multiboot-extras

+1 on that ;)

@jay-c why did the multiboot need to change, is that so the new kernel .32 will work when it comes?

Well could always turn back to 0.2.5 untill that wont work and the 0.2.9 is needed to boot NITdroid ;)

Try it without mounting sdcard, It should work as i think multiboot only installs on maemos emmc/rootfs?

Did you partition your sdcard befor it went wrong and did you 'mkdir /and' befor it went wrong if not thats why it tells you that it doesn't exist :)

Yes I did do those steps I believe. I think it's the first 1 or 2 steps about my SD card. That's where i gave up. Now it doesn't read my 16GB SDcard. I just took it out and reformat it as it looks ok from my XP machine but doesn't recognize it on Maemo file explorer. Any clues?
