Hm, it works for me now without segfaulting... Make sure you have the latest version, 0.2-maemo2. If it it still crashes on launch, I'll need a little feedback: open console and (as user !) type

Code:

sudo run-standalone.sh /usr/bin/tweakflashver
EDIT: Disregard, bratag is right, the settings do not get initialized properly for some reason.

OR you could just type tweakflashver
and it would still do an error lol

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

No, it's not that big of a deal, it just seams Qt is getting a bit lost with regard to storing settings of apps when run via sudo. When I run it as a regular user, it works fine (but then it obviously can't alter system files like the flash lib). I'll have a workaround ready in no-time. The four pages are just the result of the topic being hot, not the complexity of the issue :)

Thank God that one day is over. After running this, does microb need restarted?

No, the app restarts the browser daemon automatically.

STAY CALM. I know what's causing the segfault (Qt is not too happy being run as root), and I will post a fix as soon as it's ready (=tonight).

Don't worry guys, once attila77 embeds the number '42' into the code, the application will run flawlessly :)

Is this still up in extras-dev? Can't find it, I am not too sharp today.

Edit: Never mind, found it in garage :) Not launching correctly, but can't wait until next update, great concept.

I tried to "feed" the android 10.1 .so to mbrowser on maemo, but it didn't work :( I have a feeling that adobe has an armel 10.1 version of flashplayer for debian based systems, just not easily accessible.

attila77 2010-07-28 21:25

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

To reiterate - this changes absolutely nothing in the functionality of the Flash plugin on your N900. It *only* changes the identification string. It is ONLY good for sloppy sites that throw 'you need to upgrade to Flash 10' in your face for no reason.

EDIT In other news, I just uploaded a new version to extras-devel... check in a few minutes and report back (especially if it DOESN'T crash ;) )

The new version works for me. I will try the FroYo ID. Which one works best for you?

attila77 2010-07-28 21:53

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

I would recommend the lowest version that you can get away with. The higher you set it the higher the chances of actually triggering something that DOES require Flash 10(.1) functionality.

I was only able to run it as root. It would not start running as user.

oh yeah, now i can watch videos from laola1.tv, jihaa :D
but, i have to start tweakflasher as root from terminal

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

Okay, three questions: what's the error if you run it as a user, and two, is the UI light or dark when you run it as root (don't ask :) ). Lastly, does it perhaps work as user *after* you successfully started it as root. Sorry about the silly questions, but this root business is tricky to do right :)

1. On the contrary, I am able to run it as user from the command-line. It will not start as user from the desktop. However, when I attempt to make and save the change I get the following error: "Uh-oh. Error while opening/writing Flash plugin binary. I hope I didn't break it. Fear not, even if I did, I made a backup to ..., just copy it back to ... as root. the UI is dark.

2. If I run it as root from the command-line, I get a dark UI as before and am I able to make and save the change without error.

My test has been to see if I can watch a video from hulu.com. I've tried the following:
linux, 10,1,53,0
android, 10,1,61 (froyo)
linux 10,0.45

and none of them allow me to watch a video from hulu.com. The player loads for a while then displays the message "Sorry, we are unable to load the player...."

I'll try something less aggressive to test.

UPDATE: Ok, I am able watch facebook videos in microb, no luck in firefox 1.1. In firefox 1.1, the play button is never rendered and the area for the video to be displayed is just black.

Works great, opens straight from desktop, cant comment on colour though i'm using black plastic,
i tested it using this site http://2010.census.gov/2010census/ ive only tried the recomended linux version so far,
also ive downloaded the latest version of the app from here http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...er/0.2-maemo3/ the version i got from the app man (02 maemo1) wouldn't open for me and i got segfault both as user and root in xterm.

thanks attila77 great work dude :)

www.crunchyroll.com works now. Amazing. Using recommended linux version post update. Alot of sites require 10.1 but are still running on 9 or lower. Amazing, bravo attila77 bravo!!

Working allright from menu icon here. Why do you recommend version 10,0,45,0 specifically ?

Please move it to Utilities section, this is not connected to network.

It's an existing, widespread desktop Linux version, that (AFAIK on Linux) did not have HW accelerated video decoding, so one could say it's the closest thing to our existing Flash version.

Indeed. Also, looking for an icon set, it uses the flashlauncher icon due to my lazyness and lack of design skills :)

I think kevloral just made that version up (by putting a zero instead of the one into Android's 10.1.53), my flash version lists show no such thing actually existing... I would refrain from including a phantom version unless there are sites that require it (i.e. doesn't work with either 10.0.45 or 10.1.53, but does with 10.0.53).

BUT. If you really really know why you want that - check /home/user/.config/tweakflashver/main.conf, it contains all the versions the GUI shows (warning: it WILL get overwritten on an update).

Segfault/root complaints have gotten rare, so I guess it must be working now -> the Diablo version is not that far :)

PS. Can anyone tell me what the Chinook Flash version was ?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

If you have 0.2-maemo3, it seems there is a hidden issue (dependency or other installed app) that enables something, that would explain why for some users it works and for others it doesn't...

What happens with "sudo run-standalone.sh /usr/bin/tweakflashver" (or just "sudo /usr/bin/tweakflashver") ? Segfault or ?

ceroberts75 2010-07-29 18:44

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Tweak Flash Version

installed it via apt-get install tweakflashver

rebooted

opened app, but it just crashes.

nothing for me (PR1.2)

Update: I ran midnight commander in root and browsed to the file /usr/bin/tweakflashver and hit enter. ran and updated flash ver being reported succesfully.

Actually, that was exactly the case.

to fix the issue go to /usr/share/applications/hildon/tweakflashver.desktop and edit it.. instead of Exec=sudo run-standalone.sh /usr/bin/tweakflashver change to Exec=sudo /usr/bin/tweakflashver
