you Posting is right but there is an Image with Nokia Propertary Components:

* Battery Management Entity (BME), without this you may cause damage to your battery.
* WLAN firmware
* Bluetooth firmware

i guess nokia did give the Code free for the Meego Community but this isnt a Sign for me that Nokia will ever release a Meego for the N900 and the Community driven Development of the Meego N900 version needs at frist Nokia to give there close Codeparts free.. else its like Nitdroid at the Moment that Phone etc wont work.

@atilla i guess i have enough Brain but Bugzilla speaks another Language or didnt you strictly dont use the buggy Parts of the Software that need to be fixed from Nokia ? Maybe then you can say its all Perfect for sure..

Patroclo, I don't think the community will "create" the Meego version for N900. Its not the same as the way in which the NITDroid team is bringing Android to the N900. Or so I hope.

johnel, you seem to know a lot about this stuff. Could you shed some light on this? I don't care whether the version is "supported" by the community or Nokia but will it be a fully functional version? Will it improve the N900 or will it be like NITDroid?

i didnt have any bug.
but i spend some time for mine phone and dont need help from nokia cause i clear my probs self,sure with the communitys help.

I think concerns regarding the N900's future are extremely valid and I wouldn't consider it trolling. Its not mere whining. I haven't seen any decent answers to those concerns yet. Lets just look at how things are.

Currently, I don't even know of a way to comfortably watch YouTube videos on the N900. Most websites have upgraded to Flash 10.1, which isn't supported by the N900 so all the hoopoolala about N900 having Flash support is meaningless now. IT was one of the reasons I bought this phone. ZouTube doesn't work anymore either. Digi@scene is just plain weird and slow.

The E-mail application is horrible. Push-email is impossible without Nokia Messaging.

There are still few apps in the repositories compared to N900's competitors. In the beginning, people said N900 doesn't need apps because you can do it all from the browser but can you really?

There was a lot of hype about N900's front camera and video chat capabilities but this is another half-baked feature to say the least. It is plain painful. I haven't had one successful video chat yet. Can't see the other person's video on Skype. I hate to compare but if you compare it to the front camera usage on iPhone 4, all you can do is envy. The experience is so smooth. You can swiftly shift between cameras. You can easily see the person and the person can see you without any issues!

There are many other things that I could think of right now but I hope someone answers the questions I've asked here.

Don't really have time to break down the post into answerable elements so I'll just do a list.

1) dj_steve (one of the guys working on NitDroid) has constantly surprised me with progress on NITDroid. At this point I think the team is more likely to get a fully working version of Android before there's a fully working version of Meego on the N900. I'm not quite sure how he's doing it, I know the Milestone and Droid have similar hardware but still..

2) Community version of Meego probably wouldn't be as smooth as Maemo. It'd be barely functional, but not sure how good it would be compared to just running Maemo, or an actual device that came with Meego.

3) Maemo is pretty much dead as an OS (well rather it was cannibalized by Meego). The only thing I would expect from Nokia at this point is PR 1.3 (bringing QT Mobility, and some bugfixes). As for future applications, the only hope is QT compatibility across Maemo and Meego.

4) Most Flash 10.1 sites don't need Flash 10. You can try it by using Flash Faker (fakes the version of the Flash running on the N900). But if a website is actually using features in Flash 10 of course they won't work on the N900 then.

5) I agree the e-mail client is TERRIBLE.

6) The whole app versus browser thing really depends on which app your talking about. For example, if the app just shows you a site's RSS feed (but in a slightly prettier form) then there really doesn't need to be an app for it. But something that requires something to be locally stored on the device (like games) need to be an app.

A great example would be the mobile youtube site, even Google stopped working on the Youtube app on the iPhone because they realized it was pointless to have X number of apps when the point of it was to stream videos. Now say if you want to download and watch locally stored Youtube videos that might need to be an app.

7) I've only had Skype video chat problems when the other person's Skype client wasn't updated. But I've never had any problems with Video Google Talk or Skype on WiFi or 3G otherwise. A little bit laggy on 3G though. But the iPhone's ability to switch to the rear camera is nice (I wish the N900 had it). Would be useful when I wanted to show my fiancee the new turtle I got for her rather than trying to turn the n900 around and position it.

Nokia is still working on Maemo 5 ... with less enthusiasm than before that is for sure.

IIRC, without it you simply have less optimal charging and no means of monitoring the battery state. The chip (in the N900) has available documentation, however.

Again, aside from BME (which they should open) the contended parts here tend to have source that is not Nokia's to release. You have the exact same issue with every other handset vendor.
