Ok, I now understand what is happening. Wasn't sure if there was an issue, or if I was doing something wrong.

I don't have a folder called Trolltech, just a file Trolltech.conf, which does not contain anything beginning RDS...

I have created that folder, and edited my widget settings and tried to save, and no folder is created. I'll uninstall and reinstall and post results.

thanks

Ok,uninstalled, and reinstalled and re-added to the desktop, and there is still no sign of a directory, or a file beginning RDS.

Also been into the app after reinstallation and edited some settings, and no file gets created.

What is this thing called? Can't seem to find it in the repos (and yes I have them all activated).

Is it FM RDS Notify?

is this thing working in the latest version?

Cos for me I can only take use of the +/- buttons.
I'm not able to start the transmitter...

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

The button is very picky, but it should work if you press it just right. It usually takes me a few presses to get it on. It would be helpful if the button changed color to let you know you pressed it. Still, I do love this widget.

@carlito - updated first post with your latest skin instead of the previous one, much prefer the new look! :) (anyone wanting the larger skin it is available in the middle of the thread still)

not many new skins recently, anyone with some design skills please see the first post on details how to create skins and upload them here!

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

Nice application, and very useful. Thanks for it!

I've made a few observations about how it can be further improved.

A) It's difficult to turn on the FM transmitter with your button. There are several reasons, and the combination of them makes it a difficult experience.

- The button does not give visual feedback, until after the FM transmitter is on.

- The FM transmitter takes a long time to turn on (often ~1 second), and so the currently given visual feedback is veeeeery slow.

- Sometimes MAEMO interprets my button press as home screen scroll, and thus does not forward it to your widget. The lack of immediate visual feedback makes me often not notice it.

- The button is very small, too small for my thinking. It's worth to consider making this button wider, because it's the most often used button of the widget.

All in all, I never succeed to activate the transmitter at the first attempt, and less so while I'm doing other things at the same time (like walking to the car).

B) There seems to be a bug that can sometimes be triggered as follows:

- Select a home screen with media player widget and your FM widget
- Start music (on speaker) with media player widget
- Start FM with your widget
- Pause music with media player widget
- Wait for FM to turn of automatically after a minutes
- Get a friend send you an SMS.

Sometimes you will not hear your SMS tone, but rather the -beep- it uses to play through FM. However, the FM is off and the beep is played through the speakers, as if it were your SMS tone.

I believe there is a problem related to FM state and the MAEMO FM timeout mechanism somewhere.

Still, the widget is already now an improvement and worth using!

It gives not visual feedback because there are only two states of the button. On and off . . . not a hover state. Maybe you can try some other skins, they're in the first post of the thread.

Hi,

I do an update, now all three theme from page 1 are available in settings. You can add more themes by copying file to /home/user/.fmrdsnotify or by creating deb files :)

The first time I click the widget I always have to click it twice to get a reaction. Afterwards one click is sufficient if I do not click somewhere else.

Seems like a focus problem...

Am I the only one experimenting this?

Yes i have the issue too, but i did not know how to solve it. As the widget is managed by Hildon
focus should come automatically.

I 'll try to ask the question on qt mailing list or maemo qt channel.

Hi, i like the widget. Just a stupid question. What are the mp3,sms,phone tag do?

Maharadja 2010-10-28 09:47

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

they will turn green if the desired tag is activated to display via rds.
example: the music note will turn green if you activated the dispay of mp3-tags(or ogg and flac im not sure if they work) via rds

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

hi
I've some suggestion :

suppose Mp3 Tag is "Song Title Song Artist"
and also suppose radio car display size = 8 (Peugeot 206 clarion)
your application scroll in this way :
Song Tit
le Song
Artist

is it possible to scroll the text like this :

Song Tit
ong Titl
ng Title
g Title
Title
Title S
itle So
tle Son
le Song
e Song
Song A
Song Ar
Song Art
ong Artis
ng Artist
g Artist
Artist
Artist
rtist
tist
ist
st
t

and add an option for display tag on rds until next song.
are these possible ?

Yet possible to center the text in the skin?

And maybe rotate the widget to portrait?

I always thought the display was determined by the radio.

in any case wouldn't that waste more battery to be sending outnew data like that in a constant rate like that?

The radio name I want to center. Can center the textfield but text aligned left.

No desktop rotation. Do have carholder which is portrait.

Well, most of the people will have it on the charger anyway while driving(i think)

But that solution will work on a 8 and 10 digit rds display!

This is nothing more than a "snap on" widget. Because you can place widgets over each other, why not use it?:D

The widget itself will only be this so you can place the mediaplayerwidget on top of this one.
Any comments?
If someone could do the programming, I can give you the art:)

What ever happened to this widget? I like this one the best but it's not available in the widget selector in FM RDS Notify. Does anyone have a link to it?

Also, maybe it was answered already.... what are the call/sms icons/functions for in the widget?

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

Hi all,

I can do scroll but it should be very very slow as the RDS encoding / decoding by most car system took around 5 to 10s to display the data send.

Btw i have to fix the SMS stuff too, and have idea for new functionnality like hands free :)

How come it will be so slow? The big radio stations switch the rds texts very fast.
Maybe if it will be too damn slow you could fix the breaking of the words so it would fit to the 8 or 10 digit display.

An handsfree option would rock!

On my car system if i send RDS PS too fast the display is not in the right order.

Anyway i can change the string display by only display word in the display and if the end of the word is outside i did not display it, but i display next word. French radio do like that.

Is it that you want ?

Thats excactly what i want. Works the same here in the Netherlands. But with titles of songs you'll need to break them anywhay if the title is longer then 8 digits(most rds displays)

Yes agree with that, i will do it. My other idea is with the handsfree sytem to display the current street name :) so if people on the otherside tell you where you are, just read RDS Text, lol.

Same for navigation, text can be displayed there.

Actually i drive with Sygic mobile and mp3 music, when sygic output song it replace current music.

Anyway i m working on QLandkarte M to add some functionnality like OpenStreetMap , openRoute, 3D view and waypoint search, so be patient

Re: SKINNABLE fm transmitter superwidget (fmrdsnotify)

Hello
i'm using FM RDS transmitter widget with great joy, but i noticed a couple of small bugs in it.

1) in settings sms-display, the "done" button is not responding, the other one's are working fine (mp3 tag display and phone call display)

2) when changing theme, the sms icon in theme stonda and stonda flipped stays "on", even when fm transmiter is off. The other theme's seems to working ok.
But when i manually remove the themes in the .fmrdsnotify folder, then the "default stonda flipped" cames up, wich is then working normally..

Some one else noticed the same problem???

I'am on PR1.3 titans kernel v46 oc'ed at 900MHz (stable so far)

The problem with the stonda skin is one i know. I don't use that skin, but maybe stonda could fix it?

Ok thanks for the info, i use stonda, most complete,i like the design most and fits perfectly above mediaplayer widget.

I removed al the skins from .fmrdsnotify folder, Stonda skin, is default??? Because this one is still on the desktop, and now works normal.

I tried installing the other skins, then the stonda skin is no more selectable ( no stonda.svg in directory) they work well.
When i manually install/place stonda.svg in the .fmrdsnotify folder the sms icon stays on....

So in the meanwhile i stay without skins in .fmrdsnotfy folder.
Then stonda works fine......

Hi all,

I fixed the SMS functionnality, now fmrdsnotify depend on libqtm-messaging.

Stonda theme is fixed it was a typo in case sensitive xml.

About people who have issue, sorry i have updated also over repository and it is working there. If someone can go in terminal and start it by hand to see the output, i can solve then.
