I stated FACTS here...

Maemo will never be completed as it has been officially dropped by Nokia.

Meego will not be written by Nokia for the N900.

The Council of this community must be able to at least explain what if anything they can do about this situation and that means it must listen to its members ... US.

I have attacked no one and if anyone NOKIA ok !.

How can you speak negative of Nokia or this community to a fanboy??? he or she is so wrapped up in both they will hear nothting negative without attacking that person... this thread once again is proof of that !!!.

Before answering, I want to say that council are volunteers and spend a lot of time. Even if we disagree with what they have done or not done, they should be appreciated and thanked for their service. Most of them have been re-elected so acknowledge that. There is an election in one month so make various constructive comments at that time.

Sorry, but this is too simply stated to be correct. There are admitted difficulties with open sourcing, but less so when the software was intended from the start to be an open source project (and at this point, I and others question Nokia's original intentions). Open-sourcing does not mean that the person who contributes the code insures that there is no patent, tm, infringement.

We've debated this before. Obviously some people answer that question Fremantle, and some Meego.

This is the part that bothers me. Maemo.org is supposed to be the organization that can handle this. And now you are using the inadequacy of the organization as a reason not to proceed. And I realize that Nokia may have privately said this, but it should not be tolerated IMHO.

Your "FACTS" are somewhat questionable. In Nokia's mind, Maemo is completed - while there are some bugs (as in every OS) and some missing features (some of which are, admittedly, standard on most other phone OSes), the N900 (presumably) meets their documented functional requirements.

Meego quite plainly is being written by Nokia (and Intel) for the N900. It's not, however, being supported on the N900. This is likely to mean that the core OS will run, but vendor-specific add-on applications may not.

Finally, the Council has (I feel) made it pretty clear what they can do (and have done) about this. They act as an intermediate between Nokia and the community, and pass on the collective viewpoints of the community (whether by formal letters, conversations with Nokia staff, online blogs, etc.). They have, however, absolutely no power to enforce Nokia's compliance on anything.

How can Nokia call something open source because that would mean it has to be 100% open source without any exceptions.

Meamo.org certainly does have a role and a strong one at that so why has it allowed without visible argument to get to the current situation?.

How can you even say Meamo is completed? in who's eyes? Nokia's?.

Hang on a minute here look at what has been happening in this very community to its members and programmers alike... they are leaving and many are now so fed up they will not buy a Nokia device as there next mobile so something is not quite rite here.

I think some rethinking needs to be done or i am afraid to say Maemo.org will just fail further and even be failed to be recognised as a body in any way or form considering results from its very community.

Anyone looking in on this and the attacks going on here will soon know what i am talking about.

Yes, that is exactly what he said, you keep telling us to read your posts but you're obviously ignoring everyone elses, this council debate is just another band wagon you can jump on. Seriously, calm down. The cards have already been laid out on the table.

Nokia have not mentioned anything past PR1.3 which should include Qt 4.7 and Qt Mobility. (This is what I'm waiting for).

Meanwhile a lot of the community are interested in getting Meego running on their devices to see how that project is going along.

And in parallel to all this, there is you, constantly ranting and jumping on any member of this community you feel like. Saying we're not doing enough to get Nokia to put MeeGo on our devices, or Maemo isn't finished, or we're all "fanboys", yes, I'm a fan, I like my N900, I'd be happier if all the whiners just somehow disappeared, so this community could go back to what we actually want to do, develop, mod and discuss our gadgets.
