Obviously Nokia's - who else has a set of functional requirements for the OS?

Well, I'm not going to argue with you over this one, but I fail to see what this has to do with the Council at all. People (including the Council) are fed up with Nokia's handling of Maemo (since well before Fremantle), and (more recently) of the N900 in particular. The Council has no say over that whatsoever though (except by passing the community's views on to Nokia).

Rethinking over what, and by whom? If you have some fantastic ideas, make them known, stand for Council, write to Nokia, just don't keep on whining about how bad things are. And in what way has maemo.org failed (in any major ways - the continued lack of SSO could be pointed out as a failure, but that's just a minor niggle)? The site functions, the forums maintain a (generally) polite and fair level of discussion, the wiki provides all sorts of useful information, the bug tracking system is as useful as Nokia allow it to be.

Have you considered talking to a psychiatrist about your obsession with this forum in particular and Nokia in general? Based on the number and tone of your messages, you appear to be the biggest Nokia fanboy in this whole thread...

Speaking of running for Council. Are there any specific criteria? or application steps maybe? Can someone like me apply?

Yes, that is exactly what he said, you keep telling us to read your posts but you're obviously ignoring everyone elses, this council debate is just another band wagon you can jump on. Seriously, calm down. The cards have already been laid out on the table.

Nokia have not mentioned anything past PR1.3 which should include Qt 4.7 and Qt Mobility. (This is what I'm waiting for).

Meanwhile a lot of the community are interested in getting Meego running on their devices to see how that project is going along.

And in parallel to all this, there is you, constantly ranting and jumping on any member of this community you feel like. Saying we're not doing enough to get Nokia to put MeeGo on our devices, or Maemo isn't finished, or we're all "fanboys", yes, I'm a fan, I like my N900, I'd be happier if all the whiners just somehow disappeared, so this community could go back to what we actually want to do, develop, mod and discuss our gadgets.

Unfortunately, that time appears to have passed, because you are here ...

What you fail to recognise is the majority do NOT think Maemo is complete in any way or form as the N900 does not give anything like the performance users want and the very reason people are fed up with Nokia.

Your waiting for Nokia to give you something , anything , past pr1.3... dream on guy they are dropping the N900 fast and furious so your hopes will be dashed i am afraid to say UNLESS this community can get through to Nokia and get them to realise the facts and figures of N900 owners.

Speak for yourself but you dont speak for the majority i can tell you !.

So what happens will much depend on the NEXT device from Nokia to gain back customers they are losing drastically now over this whole afair regarding the screwups they are and continue to do so on the N900.

What everyone wants to hear is there in fact WILL be Meego development for the N900 by Nokia and some hope that we have not bought a useless device because for sure the next device will be much better obviously if Nokia are anything but fools !.

I act on reality not dreams ok.

So what can the Council and this community do about this mess???.

We're pretty much already doing whatever we can, what are you doing? Why don't you try and help once in a while rather than running your mouth like some strange deranged mad man.

This community and its Council need a much stronger stance and that would happen IF it had actual Nokia members as part of its team.

Upto now all i hear are words about what this Council can and cannot do but what you never talk about is can the council do anything more or better to achieve better results from Nokia?.

@ everyone else:

Back in my youth (a long, long time ago.) I fell off my motorcycle during a National event. While I lay on a gurney in the paddock triage I was visited by a manufacturers rep from a competing factory team. He went through the motions of concern over my injuries (nothing broken or damaged but my spirit and pride...) and left me with a t-shirt that i still have to this day.

The shirt read "You are only as good as your equipment." followed simply with that manufacturers name as the by line. (Great marketing tool. A year or so later I was on one of their machines. )

With regard to the Council, they are only as good as the information they recieve...

Since they are tasked as an information conduit; for me that means both from Nokia and, from the general membership.

Having been an early and one of the loudest voices requesting single sign-on for all maemo.org sites, once I realized that the Council didn't have executive control over this kind of thing, I was amazed at how much was done in this regard by the council who technically could only keep the ball in play.

Given the 6 month length of a council term, I also realized that this task must have been passed along and followed up by former members who could have simple said "FIDO, I'm out of here." (F*** It, Drive On :) )

To sum up...
The Council has worked for me.

And one thing for sure is its name as Maemo.org is not apt considering Nokia have killed off Maemo so there is a problem to start with.

You guys need to get your head out of the sand and start to be realistic, start to take in just what HAS happened since the start of Maemo.org get together in a BIG effort to see just what can be done for its future.
