Re: different n900s . . defferent performances!!!
That's definitely cool - I've seen a couple of other N900 prototypes, including one in what looked like a prototype case, but I've never seen the sticker on em before.
OP, while I doubt this is the case, could you have a knock-off? I recall one forum poster buying a knockoff that looked just like the real thing... until he went to reflash it(it couldn't be flashed). Also, do you have the latest updates(or potentially the same old version) with the two different N900s? Different versions will introduce speed changes, whether positive or negative. |

n900 transitions.ini file from cactus blue theme. use that, highly recommend it. It will speed up things considerably. OC it to atleast 800Mhz. In parallel, this will give a new life to your n900. |
Re: different n900s . . defferent performances!!!
This was covered a few times already...
All prototypes were made in Finland. After them a little more than 400 devices were made in Finland, too. These were handed to developers and some Nokians (100 pcs) and distributed at the maemo summit 2009 (300 pcs). After these every N900 was made in Korea. The 300 devices distributed at the summit were loaner devices, that mean that they had to be returned to Nokia for further distribution to developers. If you got a N900 made in Finland from ebay you probably got a device which was not returned to Nokia. |

I was using it until february this year and then I returned it back to Nokia. The cover didn't have NOKIA logo and the the screen got scracthes easily. There is no scracthes at all on the new customer series device. I used all the new firmware updates and the unit was working well. |

Anyways its an interesting debate because after paying the same amount of money, a few people apparently ended up with better hardware than the others. |

My N900 is made in Korea, but it's made for love.

Truth is that there are a lot people who know.. All N900s from Dell are coming from Korea. I said that IF someone today does have a N900 from Finland and didn't got it from the maemo summit or Nokia directly there is only the possibility via ebay/similar platform. ALL N900s from Finland have a label inside which says "Property of Nokia - Not for Sale". The problem is, that you're implying that N900s from one country are better than the ones from another. That is not the case. There are differences in the charges. The first charge had USB and Keyboard and dead pixel problems. The second charge does not have these problems. But devices from the second charge were also delivered at the same time as the first one. It was cheaper to change the keyboard mat and the USB connector if someone complains than destroying a whole charge. Also there are differences in the CPU. Some can be overclocked very high, other will go unstable very soon. But all are able to run at 600mhz. So for the "normal enduser" there is no difference. The difference the OP experienced is based on an unflashed eMMC, the restored backup and maybe a wrong eMMC image for the flashed firmware. |
Re: different n900s . . defferent performances!!!
psychologically, some people have tendency to believe that the old stuffs would be better than the new one. they somehow manage their mind also perception to think that the one that stick with them for a period of time will be better than the new. i dont know how someone out there think about this but i sometimes did the same thing. but time will change anything and people woul think that ...hey i got it wrong at the first time after time of trying.
done never make a quick decicion about something that need time to stick around. |
Re: different n900s . . defferent performances!!!
