It's still sold in some 3rd party locations - buy.com, Amazon, Dell, ImportGSM.com, among others.

After that $199 sell (which I stupidly ignored) this was inevitable that they wouldn't sell it.

Time moves on, my friend. They didn't forget about their prior device as much as they've moved forward to their MeeGo offerings.

Progress. No need to look back.

Remember as well that 9-12 months in tech terms is like dog years. While I hate to see the N900 go I am looking forwards to the N9 - which based on past experience should be out sometime in Dec (read Febuary 2011) and result in a complete cluster fudge of not enough units etc.

We are in the age of excess. I just realized last night that the n900 was a one time event. I don't care. This thing works. Is crazy powerful and will make my old school azz look good for at least a couple more years. What more do I want?

Parts? Replacements? Good luck, though. It'll be nice while it lasts.

when apple, they offer complete upgrades for free.. whenever they make a new OS. (iOS, all of previous iPhone can upgrade to newer version for free.)

N900! was Nokia's flagship!! they forget this too easily.

I still can remember my day getting the package from UPS guy from newegg pre-order. it sure was great.

uhm..not sure you know what youre talking about. are you seriously saying that the "upgrade" that apple offers to owners of old iphones is a good thing? id say, with all due respect, wake up and smell the coffee; its not like your older versions are anywhere close to functional after upgrade. as for the flagship comment, im fairly certain i never heard any nokia official mention n900 and flagship in the same sentence; the n900 is a tablet, an experimental device and i love mine for that very reason. if i was looking for proprietary design i would look elsewhere.

Nokia UK: N900 Page

The N900 has never been a Nokia Flagship device, just an expensive one! The flagship was the N97.

Are you saying no update is better than a partial update? Also, the 2g and 3g iphones are old enough that most people would have moved on to the 3gs and 4, both of with have complete compatibility with iOS 4. Yes, Apple is enforcing some artificial limits in updates for older devices. However, they still have far better long term device support that pretty much every other mobile device manufacturer.

Of course, that's more an example of how pathetic the mobile industry is, rather than a feather in Apple's cap.

iPhone 4 was a nice upgrade to the iPhone 3Gs, which was a nice upgrade to the iPhone 2G. It was a logical progression. Whoever liked the 2G was definitely going to like the 3Gs and even more so the 4.

The problem with Nokia is that it feels like they completely gave up on Maemo and the N900. That's the end of the line for it.

n900 wasn't flagship, it was step 4/5..... one could tell with experience from n810 etc that this was completely inevitable ect....

2 years warranty or similar device. For first ones there is still over an year warranty left (unless you live in a coutry where companies can legally squeeze their customers balls so that they crack)

sometimes yes. the limits aren't artificial, I've seen some really pissed guys with 3GS and iOs 4 spamming all over forums that "do not install iOs 4"

and sorry you can blame me. I am buying a phone (or two) a year so I am feeding the ROS (rapid obsolience syndrom)

btw my 6630 works well still, last fw update was in 2006.....
(e: sorry, still bugging but that has came from multiple dips to water and snow)

Many Android phones are seeing lots of updates. The droid, although flagship, has seen... 2? full os updates, I think. Android at least is still one OS under the hood.

danramos 2010-08-24 06:14

Re: Nokia is not selling N900 anymore on their web store...... ?

Actually, looks like we're already getting yet another minor upgrade starting two days from now. (A few fixes plus enabling Flash 10.1 for Motorola Droid.) So that's TWO major upgrades this year (2.01->2.1, just a couple of weeks ago 2.1->2.2, and now from 2.2 FRG01B->2.2 FRG22D). That's just this year. This doesn't count the 2.0 update 1 upgrade last year from the initial 2.0 release..

I'm not arguing that the limits aren't don't exist. By artificial I mean that Apple is intentionally coding the limits into the software despite the fact that the hardware is perfectly capable supporting such features. I wouldn't expect Apple to add a compass app to the iPhone 2G and 3G, but I would expect them to patch the PDF bug, which they didn't for those devices.
