Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Teaser Video
I know a lot of people ***** about flash, but there is some great content out there! Here are a handful of games that I would love to play on the tab:
http://www.miniclip.com/games/planet-cruncher/en/ http://www.miniclip.com/games/space-hopper/en/ http://games.adultswim.com/mountain-...line-game.html http://www.miniclip.com/games/rubble-trouble/en/ http://www.miniclip.com/games/skywire-2/en/ http://www.nitrome.com/games/ribbit/ http://www.nitrome.com/games/ribbit/ Here's hoping that there's some way to emulate the cursor keys (a downside to a touch-only device!). Perhaps with some specialized app! |

This flash game is AWESOME:
http://www.nitrome.com/games/faultline/ Here's hoping that these can be played via the tab! I'd whip out my BT keyboard for these! Of course, they would be better played directly on the screen! |

Here's an Adobe video of Flash running on the Tab:

I love that Samsung is spreading the device to different carriers as well and is offering a WiFi version. This gives consumers real choice and makes the device accessible to all. As a Canadian, this is perfect as an ATT version will be compatible with Rogers Wireless, that has great prepaid data rates (as I've mentioned once or twice ;)). However, as the Galaxy S still is on preorder via Rogers/Bell, I have no idea when the Tab will come in stock. Hopefully the Rogers Tab will still have phone call capability. I'm looking forward to what Google has on tap for Andoid v3. The recent gmail app has a redesigned UI as does the Google Voice widget, which may be a sign of things to come for the UI upgrade. Needless to say, they look really nice! I'm also hoping that Android embraces GPU acceleration as part of the UI, as it will result in buttery smooth transitions and lower CPU utilization. Time will tell, of course v3 will bring with it true support for larger resolutions (possibly in the UI itself), which will be a boon to developers. |

Of course, as BT handsets become more common, I'll look into these further! |

Here's a video showing Media Hub. It looks functional, though the interface leaves something to be desired.

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Teaser Video
Ok, this is one flash game that ROCKS. It's really, fun!
http://www.nitrome.com/games/tinycastle/ This game is 550x550, so would fit very nicely on the Tab's diaplay. Sadly, I've been doing research on flash integration with Android, and it seems that's there's only keyboard support for text-fields ! This is an incompetent move on Adobe's part, as they are touting flash as an environment for web apps and keyboard support is pretty key to applications beyond text-field entry (eg. custom keyboard entry code). Here's hoping that there's some type of extension for the Android browser that keeps the keyboard on the screen as I can also see this being a problem for javascript apps that require non-textfield keyboard entry. Often times games require minimal keys (eg. directional and one fire button). It would be nice to have a customizable keyboard that stayed on the screen but didn't take up much screen space for these scenarios. Even keyboard 'skins' would be a nice touch (eg. a game controller with customizable keys). It would be doubly nice if it remembered the customization based on the sites URL, so you wouldn't need to select the keyboard each time you re-visited a site. In the meantime, it seems that you'll need a keyboard in order to enjoy many of the flash/javascript games/apps on the web using your android tablet. Crappy, I know, as much of this content would be great in bed, or lounging comfortably in a chair. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Teaser Video
It seems that the accessories are coming! Here's a leather case available for the Galaxy Tab for $24.95 via amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy...sr=1-3-catcorr http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...lL._AA300_.jpg It's quite good looking as a case! It's a leather case that has two internal pockets, and features a magnetic closing mechanism. This seems like a great accessory for the tablet on-the-go. I like to keep my devices naked, so I likely will forgo this case, but it seems like a great accessory! |
Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab Teaser Video
Here's another arguable tick against the Tab.
It comes with 16MB of memory, but a Verizon leak notes that the 16MB is on a pre-installed micro SD card, and not built in! There is 2GB internal memory with the device. http://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/17...fe+(droid+life) (point 2) I can't for the life of me understand why companies are providing such paltry amounts of internal memory. Is it that large of an expense? This is especially puzzling as Samsung manufactures SSDs and SD cards alike. It is even more puzzling considering that the N900 comes with 32GB internal memory and retailed for $399 at launch. 16GB on a memory card is nice, but it would be far nicer if it were soldered to the mainboard of the device. |
