Still trying to get a handle of my Ubuntu Unity desktop, luckily I have this image to take me back to the comfort zone :) Oh what the he||, might as well throw it on my HTC G2 while I'm at it. edit: I've just realized I've distanced myself from the "superuser" with my now-shelved N900 and Arch Linux, and immersed myself in the masses of Android and Ubuntu. I feel kind of dirty, but man does life feel easy! |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
Honeycomb for the HTC Flyer has been leaked in full. According to the folks at XDA devs the nav buttons are dimmed out completely except for the pen button, the stylus can apparently be used anywhere and of course all of the usual goodies of Honeycomb like two pane desktop style apps. Cheers :)

I do not know if this has been noted here yet but I see that there is an application to install Debian on Android. I'd like to know if anyone has had any success with it or would try it and comment.
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=16961006 Thanks. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Well the wait for the very premium and very pricey jetstream is over. This review from mobile tech review really shows off HTC Sense on Honeycomb I'm really digging the customization's.

Netflix is officially available for all Android 2.2, and 2.3 devices
http://www.androidcentral.com/netfli...ning-22-and-23 MARKET LINK: http://market.android.com/details?id...ix.mediaclient http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?c...ix.mediaclient http://cdn.androidcentral.com/sites/...ix_android.png It's about damned time, already. Might be too late for them to save themselves from the droves of angry people that either left or are thinking of leaving because of their price hikes and faltering deals (like Starz). This one was stupid, knuckle-dragging DRM garbage, though. I can confirm that it launches and plays fullscreen streaming video on both my Motorola Droid (which it already did, on Gingerbread, Android 2.3.4) and now also on my Samsung Galaxy Tab (running Froyo, Android 2.2). I do notice a LOT of stuttering if you try to use bluetooth audio--perhaps they need to increase the video streaming buffer size so that the wifi streaming processing isn't interfering with the bluetooth streaming processing? Dunno--but on the whole, works great and looks great on my 480x854 Droid, looks only just "decent" on my 1024x600 Samsung Galaxy Tab (the higher resolution and larger screen naturally seems to bring out the blocky imperfections)--certainly more than good enough to watch something on-the-go. |

Hi
can any of you suggest me which tab will be the best one at present. i have the option of Samsung and Nokia. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread

In either case, right now you can only purchase a Samsung "Tab". Amongst the Samsung Brands, there are a bunch that will be available and already a few different models available now. What were you looking for in a tablet? Since you mentioned Nokia, was there something there that caught your attention that we should be aware of when we consider your question? |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Here is a cool video I found showing you how to more productive, IMO I think I finally see the point in having a back camera on tablet. Anyways a tablet makes the perfect document scanner

PS: Did he REALLY say 'voice recognization' ?? Heheh... oh God. :) Maybe the FaxCam needs a much better camera--or better still, somebody will make a real honest-to-God bluetooth page scanner device someday. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Gotta agree it is mediocre at best.
And most of the time it is below average, which means it is a good photo but a horrible photocopy (fax/document). There's just not enough dedicated pixels to render them properly. The only good feature is Google Documents, which can detect and convert the washed out letters into words. But with 12MP 1080p Nokia N8 quality cameras, and a better (app) implementation... I think we can have a (decent) mobile scanner. Reminds me of my All-in-One Lexmark that used to automatically scan documents into Word, including logo's which would just be pictures and would put them into the right spot of the .doc something like that would be cool to have on a (Android) tablet (7in?) |

Samsung Overtakes Apple in Smartphone Sales [Europe]
From the article: According to IDC, Samsung has surpassed Apple in European smartphone sales by shipping 4.8 Million units, compared to Apple’s 4.6M units. Samsung had a strong momentum before, but clearly, the Samsung Galaxy S2 should get the credit for this. Beyond the Samsung/Apple fight, Android has indeed been the number one in terms of overall market share, and there is probably nothing that Apple can do as the iPhone 5 is unlikely to change the trend. The loser in the story? Nokia. Despite a historical strength in that Market, Nokia’s market share is quickly eroding – now the jump to Windows Phone 7 is more than ever a “do-or-die” for the company. Hey guys I got Android x86 running on my netbook and with Gingerbread it works very smoothly though I still have problems with wireless maybe I will post a video about it.
|
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Very cool. What netbook do you have?
I have an Acer AOA150 currently serving as a testbed, so I might just try Androidx86 on it. edit: Any other issues besides wireless? Webcam, SD card reader (if you have one), touchpad etc? |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
Installed it on my Acer, as easy of an installation as with any mainstream distros.
UI is exactly like vanilla Android on a phone; feels snappy all around, I liked the mouse right-click to go back in app drawer/menu. Wireless did not work as expected. My ethernet port is inop so don't know if there is/was a way to establish a cable connection. Main problem was screensaver; as the screen times out, the normal lock screen would appear, but this would eventually crash my Acer. All in all, a fun 10-15 mins, but I think I'll go back to a conventional distro. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
OK here is a video of Android running on my Netbook. It is an HP Mini 210 with an Intel Atom 1.6ghz single core and 1gb of ram. In order for this to work you need to download Unetbootin and http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/downloads and download the Gingerbread eeepc build. You need a USB drive which you will use as a bootdisk and second external storage device which will store downloaded files, you need this if you want to downloads applications. At boot up select vesa mode to avoid graphical issues. Anyways things I notice are very smooth animations, portrait mode issues, app incompatibility, and lack of support for wireless

1- An SD card is faster, larger storage, and cheaper than microSD ... I really hope they add it!!! 2- The phone is small, I was hoping for something closer to 4.7". It is actually 4.3" because remember the thick notification bar/navigational buttons will be on-screen and take the place where the navigational (back, home, menu) were on other devices. It's like a tall Nexus S, just as confirmed. |

2) ...Except when they aren't there--and that's the important thing. For Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich aware games and for full screen video, those on-screen controls will not be there until it detects a touch near the controls areas to wake those widgets back up. (If you've used Honeycomb before, you know what I'm talking about... if you've never used it before, check it out in the store sometime on a Honeycomb running tablet... go ahead and full-screen a video or something.) |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
I dont have any HC devices, but I've used them in-store. I haven't ever noticed the buttons/bar disappearing in any apps, inc the browser.
It sounds like a recipe for disaster when you have to actuate a press to get the buttons to appear, especially if you accidentally hit something unwanted or more-often-than-not your empty trigger will automatically register an object close to it... because Android is like that sometimes. Quote:
