Re: The Epic Android Thread
Looks like progress is being made in getting Debian to run without VNC by using an app called X Server
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....XServer&hl=en Still needs work but there is hope. It is open source so developers please get to work! |

I would love more keybaord phones. Let's hope for the new nexus with keyboard. Tht could "force" nokia and others to create more qwerty phones. |

Frankly the best design out there goes to the Nokia N97, no bar, hands down. They just need to reinforce the tilt mechanism (use a thin but strong Adamantium hinge) and make sure its a sturdy body (eg HTC Legend) so that you don't need to use a case and make it fatter. Now just slap that on a 4.8in screen that has little/no bezel.... and make it slim (12.5mm or thinner) and you've got yourself the makings of a champion. |

I loved my N97 besides symbian. Just move the directional pad to the left and a couple of buttons for games and it would be perfect. Sexiest phone I ever had. |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
Well mine has a dualcore, I'm talking about this one
http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mediapad-review-719.php which got very good reviews. Its just the responsiveness to your inputs and general UI smoothness which is nowhere near iPad levels. I guess the update to ICS will improve things a lot though. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Ok i returned it. I think (big) tablets just suck. Too heavy to hold and too laborious to use with touch. Everything above 5" isn't suited for (finger) touch use in my opinion. Probably gonna buy a galaxy note or s3.

See what google is up to with JELLY BEAN and maybe a nexus tablet...Will they go on as nokia once did or do the invate enough to make iOS and the Surface in the back seat. See for yourself.

****. nexus tablet is cheap. $199 that is almost free :D |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
I like the new enhancements to the Notification Tray, but they didn't need to segment it from the Status Bar. Mistake #1.
Then they still have thrown away the Menu button. So its still a frustratingly small button per app where you need to constantly look for it. Mistake #2. They've not improved Multitasking in the least. At least show the Apps in correct order of last usage --something so trivial that its embarrasing for Google to get wrong *facepalm* Mistake #3. They've kept the Multitasking Button. Hey Google, how about if you slide your finger "Up" from the Navigation Buttons to view the Recents/Tasks/Multitasking List. Its not hard, its intuitive, and frankly basic. Mistake #4. Mistake #5 --The OS hasn't acquired more features from Linux. It hasn't matured. They haven't used the latest kernel (v3.5) from Linus. If they did those features above, and made it slightly heavier/feature-ful then they could've given Win8 Tablets some stiff competition before they even began shipping. There's a lot of incentive to get the Nex7 for $199, but a big incentive to upgrade to a the $249 (storage inadequacies). I would've been fine with an OMAP4430 as long as the 8GB version had microSD and also microHDMI and microUSB-HOST. Alas, Android isn't maturing (into full-fledged linux) like we thought. We must see how BBX and Win8 will turn out, cause I dislike having to download a plethora of 3rd-party software for things you should get out of the box. |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
I just the Ainol Novo7 Elf2 Tab Black 16GB.
Has Android 4.0.0, Eynos 4212-level processor, 7in capacitive 5-point multitouch, 1024x600 LCD with pretty good angles and brightness, 2MP front camera, Wifi bgn, BT 2.1, microSD, miniUSB-HOST, microHDMI-out, power-port, 3.5mm headset, loudspeaker, mic, vibration. Comes with Google Market and GApps. Works well out of the box, can recommend its build quality and features after I get more time with it. Looking for r00t, kernel source and custom roms right now. Shipped for $128. Accessories from another site will come in the next week or two, which I'll test as well. Cost a total of $20 or so. |

I'm personally not a fan of the Flyer's build - seems "cheapy". Samsung Galaxy Tab is lower res 1024x600 but does have a microSD port. I'd go Nexus. But I'm biased. |

I know... I know. odd. But I'm going to go as vanilla stock on this one for a while until the dust clears. And besides, I'm not in a rush to reinstall things because I've unlocked and rooted it. The ADB way of unlocking seems to kill all user data (I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I've seen so far). All in all, I'm enjoying the Nexus 7. I thought the form factor would be a problem. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread

Also... ADB doesn't root the device, it's the fastboot that lets you install CWM... which then lets you install a superuser app (i.e. root). But yeah.. installing the CWM will blow away the user data and /sdcard data (i.e. nearly back to stock with some exceptions). You're always recommended to make a backup of stuff anyway (ala Titanium). What did you think was wrong with the form factor? |

Re: The Epic Android Thread
I haven't posted in a while so I will do some catching up. Anyways I upgraded from 3.2 to 4.1.1 on my HTC Flyer I couldn't believe how little has changed other than performance and graphic improvements. Also I found a device that might be of interest to many people the photon q 4g lte it has a 5 row keyboard, ICS(mostly stock with a few enhancements) 1.5ghz dual core s4 proc, 4.3" screen, and it apparently has GSM roaming despite being on sprint.
this is the high end slider you are looking for http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Mot...-4G-LTE_id7253 Another high end slider with GS3 type specs http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/09/s...n-august-15th/ Also the Galaxy note 10.1 is coming soon I think I will pick one up http://www.tweaktown.com/news/25160/...eek/index.html |

This is pretty nice...Go ubuntu :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=F6_Oo-lKVUM would be nice if samsung did the same with android and tizen. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
For those folks that keep shouting that Android isn't Linux...
Android and Linux re-merge into one operating system http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-sourc...g-system/10625 FTA: "The fork between Android and Linux all began in the fall of 2010, 'Google engineer Patrick Brady stated that Android is not Linux.' That was never actually the case. Android has always been Linux at heart." "Things continued to go along much faster then anyone had foreseen. By December, Kroah-Hartman could write, 'by the 3.3 kernel release, the majority of the Android code will be merged, but more work is still left to do to better integrate the kernel and userspace portions in ways that are more palatable to the rest of the kernel community. That will take longer, but I don't foresee any major issues involved.' He was right." "Today, you can compile the Android code in Linux 3.3 and it will boot. Still, as Kroah-Hartman warned, WakeLocks, still aren't in the main kernel, but even that's getting worked on. For all essential purposes, Android and Linux are back together again." |
Re: The Epic Android Thread
Well Android isn't Linux. Its an OS that shares a similar kernel.
With Android 5.0 Google is attempting to use the mainline kernel, or at least a version that's barely tempered. This means you can reboot to a boot manager and dualboot between Android and Native Ubuntu (or another distro). Won't work for Samsung, HTC, Motorola phones. Maybe just AOSP/Nexus devices and maybe SONY. |
Re: The Epic Android Thread

Anyway, it is nice to have the same kernel so it is easier to boot Linux in some Android devices (without chroot, real boot). I am trying Android 4.0.4 & LUbuntu 12.04 on a Mini-PC (MiniX H24 & MK802), Linux runs faster than Android. |
