Here's an interesting app dedicated to maximizing battery life. It's called SuperPower Battery. The app basically uses a number of variables to conserve power where it can to improve battery life.

General: Will this prolong battery life ?
Quite probably, yes, significantly! BUT, there is never a guarantee. It all depends on how you use your device, the current conditions, and how you configure SuperPower. Some options in general save a lot of battery, but may be too inconvenient for you to use (specifically 2G/3G switching), and if you still want to use them, some playing with the various options may be needed to get it to work with the least amount of inconvenience to your usage pattern.

I've not heard of such an app, though you should be able to view the alldata documents on the Tab, no? Or is it a desktop application?

Here's a video of bonecruncher soccer. It's not running on a Tab, but it looks like a very fun casual game.

For those that don't know, it's similar in style to backbreaker football. The basic premise is to avoid being tackled/intercepted, to score a touchdown/goal.

This game called 'spectral souls' looks like an AWESOME RPG for Android, and would be amazing on the Galaxy Tab:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRDmY0H72r8

Becuase it's composed of Rasters, this is one game that may stay centred on screen or scaled to fit. However, if coded appropriately, simply more of the playfield/world will be exposed on the screen.

This is really cool. The game NOVA by gameloft is an First Person Shooter. What's neat is that you can use the gyro in the device to look around. Check it out!

Controlling an FPS by moving the device would be a very cool thing to try.

The video also features the AVATAR game (based on the motion picture). It actually doesn't look that bad!

This is a case of why you should not rush a product to the market. Turns out the Toshiba tablet has been so disappointing that the Dixons group (PC World, Dixons, Currys) have decided to stop selling the Toshiba tablet. For a company as huge as Toshiba it is quite worrying that they would release such a poor product.

It looks as if Walt Mossberg has tested the Tab. He likes it! But still prefers the iPad.
http://www.businessinsider.com/mossb...e-ipad-2010-11

Walt Mossberg is a pretty large Apple fan, so it's an impressive account to say the least. His faults are 'jerky scrolling', lesser battery life, and smaller screen. Fair points.

I *knew* that the scrolling would irk most users. Google should really prioritize GPU acceleration across their UI API.

I wonder if the Galaxy Tab will grow on him, like it has for so many...

Wow. It seems that Gizmodo tore into the Tab, going as far as to call it sheepsh*t in a tweet:

FTA:
Quote:

This thing is just a mess. It's like a tablet drunkenly hooked up with a phone, and then took the fetus swimming in a Superfund cleanup site. The browser is miserable, at least when Flash is enabled. It goes catatonic, scrolling is laggy, and it can get laughably bad. When better browsing is half the reason to go for a larger screen, that's insanity. Not only does it use a stupid proprietary charging/syncing cable, It won't charge when you plug it into a laptop. (Update: It's not a proprietary cable, but good luck borrowing one from a friend.) Neither of the cameras are anything to write home about (sample photos/video here). Costing $599 off-contract is embarrassing when the iPad starts at $499. (Update: Fair point, the iPad 3G starts at $629. But it's got a bigger screen, and this thing still sucks.)
The overt Apple stance and immature writing is why I stopped reading Gizmodo. Ridiculous.

Let us know how you're usage patters change as a result of having the device relative to your other devices and especially your expectations.

Great job on bypassing the Verizon registration! I bet that someone would really appreciate this information and you should submit it to a popular blog (eg. androidcentral) so that others will be able to do the same.

One thing that you may consider doing is running the one-click-lag-fix on the device. It's supposed to speed up disk IO significantly and prevent stutters that can happen on the hardware.

Other than that, let us know how it's going!

So far it's been pretty incredible. Even though it's not an AMOLED screen, it LOOKS fantastic, it seems as if the battery lasts an INCREDIBLE length of time and the gaming looks astounding. Angry Birds not only LOOKS far more fluid (videos of it running on the Tab do no justice to actually seeing it in person), it even FEELS far more fluid. Finger flicks taps feel effortless and comfortable. The strangest feeling in the world is using my Tab all day to do things, then whipping out my Motorola Droid to do other things and suddenly being struck with a strange sensation of claustrophobia that I'd not had up until then. The Droid's screen comparatively looks sharper but so, so SO much smaller and I can actually see and feel the lagging difference in speed despite the fact that I've overclocked by Droid up to run nearly the same speed. I think the Hummingbird processor in the Galaxy is definitely benefiting from the increased ARM speeds, increased RAM and cache sizes. It's very night-and-day, and the Droid is still a pretty slick moving little device. Considering that even the Droid was running circles around the N900's UI in terms of fluidity and speed, the Tab just makes everything else feel so slow and clucky.

Overall, I still have been using my Droid more for my podcasts/news but I get the sense that will change once I get a nice stand for the Galaxy--it's the only thing preventing me from pulling it out most of the time out-and-about when I want to watch news or listen to podcasts. Although, I might start doing more audio podcasts anyway, since the Tab fits PERFECTLY into my inner pockets (PERFECTLY!) of my jackets and coats, and I have a bunch of stereo bluetooth headsets. It plays unconverted videos GREAT, too.. especially MKV's, which was a little surprising.

1. The Tab on display did not have live wallpaper. Not sure how much having that on hinders smoothness.

2. Coming from an N900 anything will seem super smooth and responsive to you. May not feel the same way for those who have been using iphones or android phones for ages.

I've been using it now over the weekend and I didn't even know there were reports of lag and hadn't seen any lag whatsoever, myself. Did they fix is before the US release or something? Seems to run without a single hitch on my Tab. I, for the record, used a live animated wallpaper for the whole weekend and a friend of mine that I found out works in a Verizon franchise in a nearby mall was surprised at how incredibly smooth it was running with live wallpaper. As someone that has a rooted and overclocked Droid running Android 2.2.1, I can attest to it running far more 'buttery smooth' that at least that handset device.

In my case, it probably would if Verizon allowed me to make calls--which they don't.

Devices like this are quite rare. Samsung has an official stylus that's being released and it supposedly can double as a BT handset.

EDIT:
Ah, This isn't a hold-to-the-ear handset. I think it needs headphones to operate. I don't know why there aren't BT handsets on the market?! The only one that I've seen is a giant novelty phone from thinkgeek.com

I would honestly buy something similar, only smaller and sleeker. It would be useful for taking calls on the Tab when at home or on the road (VoIP for me).

Here's a video of the Galaxy Tab playing a PSX emulator (PSX4Droid).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUq1nUrPoRU

The quality is quite good! I was expecting more slowdown due to the increased resolution, but it plays very smoothly! Hopefully PSX4Droid will get GL acceleration, rather than the software rendering it's currently using.

There are some incredible older PSX games that would be nice to play on the Tab -- especially RPGs.

No problem! I've repeated myself more than once, and I probably post more than anyone in here!

Thanks for the account of the Galaxy Tab! I'm glad that you're enjoying it, and can understand that a GNU/Linux has certain aspects that are more desirable for some.

Of course, Android is not without its strengths, one of which is plenty of Apps! There's a 'task manager' called Itching Thumbs that allows you to double tap the home key to re-visit backgrounded apps. It's palm pre-like in its execution. Similarly you can hold the home button down to access recent apps (AFAIK).

You may want to try out Firefox Mobile Beta for Android if you haven't already. It's supposed to provide a more 'MicroB' experience, and has extension support. Other browsers include the recently released Opera Mobile -- which is extremely smooth scrolling but lacks flash support at the moment!

Plus there are all sorts of apps and games worth exploration!

Let us know how it's going!
