Email Woes
Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble setting up the email to work with my Pacbell/Yahoo account or either of my Gmail accounts. Anyone have any tips or screenshots of settings? Thanks, Mike |

Re: Email Woes
Yahoo doesn't allow you to configure an email client unless you pay for their premium service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-30.html This is why I stopped using Yahoo - Sorry, if you are using the premium service, I don't know what the setup is. However, the link above does have some information on that. As for gmail, here are my configuration notes. Hope it helps. a) In the email app menu, select Accounts -> New Account b) On Screen "1/4" Account Name: gmail Account Type: pop3 c) Screen 2/4 User name: recent:<username>@gmail.com Password: <password> Email Address: <username>@gmail.com d) Screen 3/4 Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com e) Screen 4/4. Click Advanced. f) Incoming Tab: Retrieve: Messages and Attachments Leave Messages on Server: [x] Password Authentication: Normal Security: SSL Incoming email Port: 995 g) Outgoing Tab: SMTP Authentication: Login User name: recent:<username>@gmail.com Password: <password> Security: SSL Outgoing email Port: 465 NOTE it is important to use "recent:<username>@gmail.com" as the login name because this will allow MULTIPLE email clients to get mail from gmail via Pop (eg, when using BOTH the N800 and Outlook). If "recent:" is not used then only ONE Pop client will be able to get the emails from the server (first come first serve). |
Re: Email Woes
Thanks for the info, but do I need to change all of my gmail acounts to say "recent:<username>@gmail.com" or just the one on the N800?
Thanks, Mike |
Re: Email Woes
There is a "How to" on the Tabelteer site (which has a shortcut on the homepage of a N770, anyway), which uses Gmail as the example. I finally managed to set-up my gmail accounts using this after about a year of fustration and giving up!
Didn't know about the "recent:' tip though - good one! Now, does anyone know how to separate mail from different addresses (eg 2 gmail) into different folders in the email client? |
Re: Email Woes
@mhyusi
It depends on what you want to do - If you don't use "recent", then the emails will be marked by google as having been pulled down. So if you have two clients that pull from the same account (say Outlook and the N800), only one of them will see the email - whichever one pulls it down first. If you use "recent" in both clients, then both email clients will be able to see the new emails. If only one client has "recent", then that client won't see any emails that have been pulled by the other client. I hope my explanation isn't too confusing. |
Re: Email Woes
Nope, and again, thanks for the help, I'll try it out when I get home.

Didn't know about recent:, great tip!

Re: Email Woes
I failed to mention one important step in my note above:
you have to also enable pop access in your gmail account. This setting is found under "settings" -> "forwarding and pop" at the gmail web site. |
