what do you guys have against apple?
 

i have been reading tons of threads this past week and i see in almost all of them, they bash on apple on how iphone is closed. well its the same as n900, nokia closed the source on some components, so its not fully open sourced but it was advertised as an open sourced phone. ITS NOT

i wanna know why are you bashing on apple.

if it wasnt for apple, people wouldnt have a sweet music store(itunes)

if it wasnt for apple, people were forced to use windows.

if it wasnt for apple, there would be no touch screen phone till 2011.

if it wasnt for apple, there would be no angrybirds.

can someone reply to me in this thread on why do you hate apple/iphone?

It only gets irritating when people with iphone starts bashing on about their phone saying that theirs is gold and n900 is **** ..

That's what irritates the heck and makes us point out the mistakes in iphone.
We don't hate iphone , we love n900..
because what we need from our phone cannot be fulfilled by apple, as simple as that.

Hmm. Hate might be too strong word. Some people just don't like their business model. For me it´s just same. "free"market (USA doesn't really have free market when speaking about phones&TSPs but that aside) gives playground to all companies and let´s see what outcome will be.

But not all people appreciate that iPhones is connected to iTunes. Many people like it and many people do not like it. Why would people be forced to use windows when you have also other operating systems that are free? Currently some of our schools here in ´Finland are changing to linux (ubuntu).

mmmmmmmmm everything!! ive never liked apple macs due to their limitations (one button mouse for starters) and lack of software... spose it doesnt help I was brought up on IBM's when they came out... and iphones are just as bad. good enough for the general population of sheep I guess.. but im no sheep.!

edit: BTW i dont hate apple, just really dont like their products

There were touch screen devices way before the iPhone/iPod-Touch, not trying to fuel the fire. But that's classic Apple brainwashing "We invented X", where X can be portable music players, touch screens, video calls etc, etc.

Though the competition is always technologically ahead of Apple and a lot cheaper. My problem with Apple is the way they treat their customers like idiots and lie and bend the truth for their P.R. just see the latest iPhone 4 device for an example of continued deception.

Now, this post isn't sticking up for Nokia, whether it's best to be vocal and tell your customers lies and half-truths, or whether it's best to not really tell your customers anything. That's a different debate.

Music store? There are music store Online through Sony and Music store in the mall.

No one is forced to use Windows, it's their choice, Apple OSX wasn't the only OS out there, Linux, Windows, Unix....more

Why I hate Apple iphone? because of most of the owners of the iphone can be an arsehole. First they said: why would we need this or that? then later they get the extra feature that they said "who'd need it" they became all hyped up and saying that Apple invented it.

Let's get real! Apple invent Nothing new other than renaming stuff to make it their invention again, again... and again..

nokia did it by saying n900 has the power of a computer, and when i go to youtube, too much lags.

Ok.

I actually like Apple products - from a hardware perspective and to a certain degree the software too.

What I do not like is the increasing control of how you are allowed to use their products.

It's a matter of principle that I won't buy Apple products because they can dictate to me the terms of the use of their hardware.

I won't buy an iPhone (I considered buying one last year) or an iPad.

Until recently I would have considered buying a Mac but unfortunately there are rumours Apple are planning to lock that down too.

I just don't don't like the idea of a corporation dictating the use of the stuff I have paid for.

look, N900 has the power of a tablet computer. It wasn't claimed to be a super computer. You can do some study on how much CPU power is needed to be a powerful computer. Nokia never said that the N900 will be as powerful as the average computer either.

N900 has similar hardware to iphone 3GS, the only thing that defined the N900 as a mobile computer is the OS. OS defined the hardware, without OS there will be no working hardware. OS taking advantage of the given hardware and make it performed the way the instructions telling it to do. Maemo5 OS may be not very smooth as iOS but it is the closiest to the consumer computer OS. It is a class of its own.

FYI, even some computers are struggled to play youtube. That is a low end consumer laptop. It has higher CPU and RAM than the N900 but yet can't even watch youtube properly.

There are plenty of other good music stores that've been round longer than itunes

MacOS is not the only windows alternative, despite what Apple might like you to think.

Touchscreen mobile phones have been around since at least 1994.

The iPhone is not the only phone that can play games.

You've quite succesfully demonstrated one of the many reasons in this thread. A lot of technically-minded people get a little irritated tic/itch whenever they hear something technically-oriented that's blatantly false, and as you've demonstrated in this thread by buying into Apple's marketing hype about themselves (I call it marketing hype, what I really mean is total utter complete ********) about being first on the scene with everything, gets really tiresome.

This is especially true when it ends up being regurgitated by half the population of the planet who've heard it from apple ("what? your phone doesnt have Retina technology?") (hint: it's just a name, nokia's next phone could have "superfantabulousawesomesauce technology" if they want it to) rather than just the people at Apple themselves who're, well, paid to spout all that garbage.

As also pointed out, the whole locked-down-ness is a major issue too. Sure, some of the N900's binaries are closed, but this isnt only about whether the actual source of the system is open/closed, it's simply down to what limitations are put in place against the user on the device they paid for.
As a straightforward example, personally i'm getting pretty tired of explaining to the more muppety of the people I know with their iphones and android devices, what jailbreaking is for. ("what?! you cant jailbreak your n900? nokia sux lols!") - It's quite challenging having to explain to idiots that an n900 cant be jailbroken because there's no jail in the first place to break.

Their over commercialisation. Their inflated marketing claims. The fact they create isheep. Their closed systems that try to make it difficult for people to move on to other devices. e.g if you buy an ipod and create tons of playlists you would lose all your playlists if you moved on to another mp3 player. This is just a basic example. There are other more significant examples. Their closed system which prevents you treating your apple device as your own even though you have paid for it. Their childishness and lies that prevented them acknowledging the iphone 4 anthena issue.

1. I have no need for itunes, nor be restricted or tied down to itunes, be it sweet or not. Just need a decent mass storage filesystem

2. I wasn't forced to use windows, I love windows but I also love linux with new stable kernels.

3. The first touchscreen phone was the IBM Simon, launched in 1992, I'm very sure apple was not the first creative or innovative company to jump onto the touchscreen wagon even though they did make a attractive capacitive screen.

4. I'm very sure angrybirds will be there for any other operating system even without apple. I had my fill of angrybirds, time for me to move on the greener pastures

Lastly I do not hate apple but I do have my fair share of dislikes for them, that includes the itunes i mentioned on point 1.

I don't like the way they try to monopolize the market, lying, and stealing tech, claiming stuff and convert the majority of it's users to sheep. And then charging over a thousand of euros for the 'first phone with videocalling' (what is that, wifi? 4g-4g?)

I don't like nokia enaugh to be a fanboy cause we need more support. But I suppoose I would never buy an Apple product (except maybe a simple mp3 player that is)

Well music stores have been invented by Napster, as far as I know, even if no money was involved;
several other GUI operating systems are and were available for good people to use, including OS/2, AmigaOS, AtariOS, GEM, and of course GNU/Linux;
/me had a Sony Ericsson P800 very many years before Steve Jobs thought of making a cell phone;
and as regards angrybirds, well, developers would have done it for any other OS where money were :D

Not much - perhaps the messiah-like marketing and the cult of their followers. All the nothing in the App Store. Or that I sold my shares in them way too early :-) The too-close control of everything and yourself - but perhaps this is simply the price for everything they do well:
The quality of their hardware design and marketing execution. How they make technology accessible for Mum and Dad and Kid, converting the computer into a consumer device (I'm typing this on a MacBook Pro while doing iPhone app development.)

Still, I prefer the liberty and frontier-experience that Maemo/Meego gives me for mobile devices. The good contacts and open source / communication. That you can make a difference and aren't drowning in 200'000 crapps :-)
And on the desktop, I prefer Windows for the rich environment and the unlimited possibilities, the high efficiency of doing everything.

Ah the world - it's not as simple as some think :-)

Now you've learnt your lesson. Don't blindly defending Apple for the technology they said they invented it. The real answer is they didn't invent anything other than steal it and rename to make it theirs. Not to mention multitouch, Apple didn't invented it.

As for the original post comments, meh - I can't really be bothered. I don't hate Apple - I just dislike the manner in which they operate as a company.
