Theres linux.
There were phones with touchscreen before the iphone even came out.
I didn't know apple developed angrybirds.

I just don't like proprietary solutions...which Apple is full of. Apple can do what they want...and they even do many things very well I admit. BUT...as long as they ignore open standards just to do things their own way I will ignore them. I suspect they are only doing things their own way to lock me into their ecosystem...an expensive marked up ecosystem. Having to buy a replacement cable once when the cat chewed through my son's ipod cable felt like I was being pickpocketed. Meanwhile I have so many usb standard cables laying around that could have been used instead it is not funny.

Same with Sony...they make some truly lustworthy products...but...as long as they deal in memory sticks they can stick it.

Not really.
On the N900, I can remove or replace any system components, or modify them as I like. (There are plenty of mods and stuff on this forum, too.)

For me, iPhone is a nice phone, but boring. Besides, there is absolutely nothing cool about a phone that is loved by grandmothers and housewives, nothing at all. Still, it's a nice device :)

Well, I've just been trawling the iPhone4 forums http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs44/f/20...ehpleuvoir.gif, and I can't find a single post from a rival smartphone owner baiting an argument by openly trashing the iPhone while claiming their phone is tons better like iPhone owners have done here.

Even the Nokia Facebook page gets invaded with comments like "I tink iphone4 iz betta".

Too ... uncomputerlike. I prefer mine more machine-like. Good form, nice finish and a heck of a function packed inside. And yes, I use the water extensions, the hot plug bays, etc.

There is such a thing as too simple, too hidden and too slick. I can afford any case I want, and Lian Li lost the race with twice the price.

And frankly, how much sleeker can you make a phone before it looks like a used soap or a rectal instrument? All iPhones I handled almost slipped from my hand. I have dry hands and soft skin. And Apple isn't the only one taking this minimalistic design to the edge of the possible.

All these new "sleek" phones annoy me. Strip the logo and you have a faceless drone. Shiny, smooth, faceless. Like a game of pool with 16 white balls.

Nokia is in on this too. Less(Streak) and less(N8) and less(Vibrant) personality. Long gone are the days where Nokia made a curved phone.

I don't give a damn about the iPhone except that it's pushing a locked down philosophy that benefits only Apple in the long run.

So let me get this straight...

You open a thread with several statements that were subsequently all showed to be incorrect (which you've even admitted to at least 2 of them, several times), you then follow up trying to show Linux is inefficient by asking a series of (what you thought) were rhetorical questions to "prove" linux's uselessness but were then subsequently answered and rebutted - in full...

So as a last ditch attempt you're just saying we're all stupid and you don't want to deal with us anymore because we don't agree with you.... :confused:

Apple did NOT create iTunes, they just renamed an existing program called SoundJam and hired the original programmer.

Look it up, SoundJam MP. I miss working for the publisher, Casady & Greene. Best employer ever.

dropped my iphone a bunch of times

know what i did when my n900 touch screen stopped working pulled my iphone out and used it to make a call what a cellphone should always do

What do you expect...coming into a Maemo/Linux/Nokia forum spouting off blatant inconsistencies about a device that maybe 2/3 of the population here can care less about??

Btw, Apple didn't even invent iTunes, they bought the software (SoundJam MP) from a couple of guys who developed it. OS X isn't theirs either, just a derivative of UNIX. They didn't invent the iPod either, some British guy did. With that said, when you get a chance can you please post what Apple HAS invented themselves?? Besides inventing the CORRECT way to hold a phone... Consider it a project...yes??

I thought there were some very thoughtful posts here. Unfortunately, they were eventually drowned out by repetition, and now I am starting to feel a bit sick.

I think we owe a debt of gratitude to Apple for showing that real efforts to create beauty and user-friendliness can be worthwhile. It's obvious to me that Apple has forced the whole computer world to try harder.

I don't want to join their club, however. I don't trust them. Even now, they are applying for patents to make jail-breaking harder. They do want their users in jail, where they can be forced to be happy. Apple is the true Big Brother.

I hate Steve Jobs.

And what I do REALLY hate are people that believe anything that is printed in an Apple ad.

They all make you believe that they invented it.

Example:
One of my housemates had a Blackberry, 5 months ago she got an iPhone 3GS.

In a conversation with another housemate about phones with touchscreens etc... she suddenly says:
"Oh! I always thought that Apple invented it" referring to touchscreens. OMG!
I just didn't start a discussion with her, because I know that she is a complete idiot with anything that relates to tech.

This is just an example, and I bet that a LOT of people that buy iPhones and Macbooks are in the same mindset.

Friends and workmates that have iPhones are still surprised when I plug in the N900 via USB and just use it like a normal USB drive to give them some music or new tv shows.

Well, I have reasons to hate Steve Jobs.
His lies affect my work.
Applications that I worked on and tested to make sure they work fine with any browser on any machine (yes even with IE5 and 6) will now have to be iPad and iPhone friendly :mad: ( or iDiot compatible as I like to call it )

The main reason for this is that one of the directors at my work is totally brainwashed by Apple. He's a 62 year old man.
