Apple rocks. I'm on a fully loaded Macbook Pro right now typing this. I'm also a certified OS X Server engineer, as well as a certified RH Linux and VMWare ESX engineer. It's all Unix to me, in one form or another. Far as I'm concerned, when I shell out on my N900 I get a bash prompt....and when I shell out on my Macbook I get the same bash prompt. Life is good as far as I'm concerned.

i hate steve jobs because of his pride to never admit the antenna problem to the point he went low to drag other phone manufacturers. what he's saying might be true but the iphone is more famous with a huge dissapointment so just learn to accept some failure in the product.

he feels so great to put adobe down. sure flash has its quirks but never bad mouth other companies for your own benefit. it's just so low and dirty...

he thinks people are stupid to say the signal meter is not really accurate. then why the hell are phones using a signal meter when it's not true?

i hate apple for trying to make themselves the basis of being universal when in fact, all their accessories only works in their products. everybody use this but they want to be different or maybe just earn more....the usb posted is an example...

you already bought the product but you can't just use it in any network (i'm on t-mo) unless you hack it. just give the damn unlock code or sell an unlocked one. only the apps offered like ifart is available when the cooler apps are being kicked out. too much control...

the only thing that impressed me is their marketing style. they are so good that consumers are like mindless zombies buying apple products. no company and not even microsoft made a craze like that...

Do you hear that? Of course you don't, it's silence. I just put 8 GB in my new unibody Mac Mini. I use MacPorts for most of the CLI and X11 loose ends, and I ssh -Y, scp and sshfs into an Ubuntu 10.04 virtual machine with scratchbox installed. I don't hear a single fan. Not one buzz. They crammed the power supply into that little box for Pete's sake. No more power brick. Life is really good. All my noisy Linux boxes are enjoying a deep slumber.

Apple rocks big time.

Today, Macs use the same hardware as PCs. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think.. Look below.

WINDOWS ADVANTAGES:

Aprox 90% of the market is Windows. Most PCs include windows already pre-installed.
1) A number of websites still require Internet Explorer to view and IE for Mac Stinks (it is really ies4osx which is the Windows IE version running really buggy on OS X and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows, too many problems with it).
2) More supported peripherals (printers and other things you hook into the computer) on Windows.
4) Like the Dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.

Install at least Free Versions of Avira AntiVir, Avast, Comodo Firewall on the Vista.

LINUX ADVANTAGES:

1) Install Linux, and then get tons of software for free.Update software easily and automatically. (Checking a checkbox in either two ways to install (Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager), search for something you want, check a box and click apply)
2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION. It can do just about any cool effect a Mac can do and more...
3) Like the Mac OS X Doc? google/yahoo Cairo Dock, avant window navigator.
4) It is faster/MORE SECURE. Surf the internet and even run some windows programs with Wnehq/Crossover..

LINUX OS
If you are worried about viruses, spyware, security, Try Linux (it is free), I have included some information about Linux and links so you are not lost if you decide to try it.

Easily turn your system into a Dual booting computer with Linux, fast, safe and secure, easy to use (contrary to belief). You then get the best of both worlds (Windows with all of its supported products, freely go online without the worry)

My Recommendation would be either Ubuntu (Most popular and well supported linux), Kubuntu (KDE version of Ubuntu),
Freespire (has all windows codecs for watching videos, dvds out of the box),
PCLINUXOS (very nice Linux, easy to use and polished),
There are so many good versions of linux besides these.

PLEASE NOTE: In linux there are many forms of Windows Environments, the two main ones are KDE (K Desktop) and GNOME. Ubuntu uses GNOME, KUBUNTU is a KDE version of Ubuntu, PCLINUXOS, Freespire use KDE... The differences in the window environments (DESKTOPS) control how you configure, open close the windows, the appearances of the windows... linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting helps with printer support. ScreenCasts.ubuntu.com shows video and non-video help with learning to work with Ubuntu.

There are many good Linux distributions for different reasons, distrowatch.com, polishlinux.org, desktoplinux.com are good websites for overall understanding linux.

Installing Linux in general is very simple and much more secure than OS X(Macintosh) and free.
Also, most Linux distributions have a LiveCD which means you can try without installing...
UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, FREESPIRE, PCLINUXOS, etc.. all have live CDS.


ANOTHER QUICK NOTE: People have been able to run OS X on a PC since the PC and Mac use the same hardware. This is not legal and I would not recommend it for security and legal reasons, the purpose is to show that there is nothing special about the MAC.

A)Price...
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac

) SECURITY:

Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 under 30 minutes, and hacked within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008. Linux and Vista were not able to be hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered.
All macs are standardized with Cameras, if your system gets hacked, the hacker would more likely be able to turn on your camera.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

C) VIRUSES

The argument that OS X has less viruses is true, but that is against XP, BUT Mac OS X has viruses, a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

Google/Yahoo Mac Viruses


D) WINDOWS LICENSE is discounted with PCs

You do not pay the full price, for instance Dell -> you pay $50 or less for Vista Home Premium If you buy a Mac and want Vista, you pay full price.


D) EXPANDABILITY & REPAIR...

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.


E) PROBLEMS

Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Moral of the story : Apple still sucks :P

No, I don't hate Apple or anything. Without much experience on their products, I do think their stuff is mostly good. You get what you pay for. And for Apple stuff, you typically pay a lot.

@juise: i paid $260 for 8gb ddr3 ram on my macbook pro a couple of months ago. They should be closer to $200 now. Yes, it's still under warranty and i plan to extend the warranty to 3 years or so if by the end of the first year, there's no interesting new models pimped.

@sdesai: ok. Let me write a rant against India. Please excuse any inaccuracies or mistakes, because I've never actually lived there or even been there. But I've read a LOT about it and I have higher than average cognitive/reasoning abilities.

I would agree with your statement if it weren't for the fact that not everybody picks the phone that can do what they need for them.

1) Some people have no choice (no, I'm not going get into a philosophical argument about what choice involves or defining choice). For example, if you want an iPhone but want to stay on Verizon. You have no choice.

2) Some people don't do enough research (hint: if your not happy with the device as is when purchasing, return it and get another device). Or wait a few months to see what problems there are and what not.


Anyway..

iTunes argument. I'm not sure if there were any other online music stores, but Apple should at least be credited with pushing the sales of digital music online. I don't like iTunes myself (I prefer Amazon MP3 or 7Digital) but those stores wouldn't be as good as they are today if it weren't for iTunes.

Likewise, Angry Birds may have been developed for another platform (not bothering with time arguments), but it's because of the IOS platform that it's created as it is today.

Like it or not, Apple popularizes features that may or may not be present in existing technology. Much like Nintendo popularizing the use of motion in videogames. What they (as companies, rather than brand name) do helps the industry evolve.Otherwise it would be relatively stagnate. Heck look at how Android has forced Apple to change. Competition is good, it is the basis of capitalism.

Just leave the fanboyism out of it.

i dont hate apple, i just don't like them. i'm not overly keen on iphone users either. i embrace new technology and products, i appreciate the iphone for what it is and what it can do, i embrace that it has pushed manufacturers to keep up with it and try and better it. i just dont like the way the users think they have the best phone in the world and that everything else is inadequate and not worth the time of day.

and the one overpowering fact and reason why i will never own an i phone.....

i refuse to sign up to a minimum 18 month contract AND pay for the phone on top of that, just for the privilege of owning a phone with an apple symbol on it, when i can get a phone just as good, or even superior for free. you do the math

I'm as cheap as they come, but it's difficult to argue the value of a dollar. I have a warehouse-full of hardware, but only my Mac Mini will see 60 hours of use every week. For the moment, I've converged on the desktop with a Core 2 Duo device that has a smaller footprint and is more silent than a single-core Atom-based netbook.
