That sounds interesting. And it seems too...

I installed mine with the latest Nitdroid. Everything's working fine. But there are times that it lags. Is it because of the installation location is on microsd card. And after minutes of usage, the LED light turned into red. I don't know but the battery became warmer than normal. Maybe this will get fixed soon.. :)

Oh, and I hope the GUI version of the installer gets released soon! :)

the video.. testing version?
can someone find the beta for it?
and who uploaded the vid? is he a part of the nitdroid project?

Re: NiTDroid - Phone/Data function ready :))

It was e-yes aka drunkendeveloper who uploaded the vid, an yes he is part of the NITDroid team and is the one who is working on phone/data afaik,
but i wouldn't expect a release of it too soon as the NITDroid guys have stated multiple times that they wont release things till they are done and they WON'T GIVE ETA'S.

Nice to know that its all moving along nicely. Respect to e_yes and the other NITDroid devs.

@kennibal the blinking red led/battery reporting thing is a known issue, and the reason i am unable to use NITDroid at the moment, there is a fix but it breaks the wifi, but for people like me who use more than one battery even that wont work.

For more info on this and all NITDroid announcements go to the NITDroid site and join the forum there http://www.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

Re: NiTDroid - Phone/Data function ready :))

The vid was uploaded by e-yes, one of the nitdroid devs. Whilst this is promising, I wouldn't hold your breath on seeing this released soon. They are not going to release anything until its stable enough and I have heard that audio doesn't work on calls and sms doesn't work yet either.

I can't wait for GPS and others functions to work. I hope the heating up won't exist later on. Nitdroid makes my N900 So hot. it felt like it going to burst.

:oThats the one, i only saw it once this morning on the utube vid:D and it wasn't till i went onto the NITDroid forum to look for more details, thinking who is this guy, i havent seen the name in the list of devs, that i realised myself that it was e_yes.

Nice to see we're one step closer to a fully working NITDroid.
I can't wait to give it a go when the next version is released,
for now though because of the battery and wifi problems and lack of phone support it isn't viable for me to use as i need to be reachable on my mobile pretty much 24/7.
So i guess ill just patiently wait for the day i can boot back and forth between Maemo & NITDroid without sacrificing functionality of the main phone features.

Sounds like your problem may be that your sd card is a slow one, when ive had it running on my device i was really suprised that it was pretty much as responsive as maemo, definately not slow by any stretch.

i don't know then, is it old? although mine is about 2years+ old and it works fine, probably your best bet is to check out the NITDroid forum and take a look at the supported memory cards thread (cant remember the exact name of the thread) but i know there is a lot of stuff on there about memory cards and which ones do and dont work.
But as it is now NITDroid should be running smooth quick and pretty stable, although by no means without its bugs.

Re: NiTDroid - Phone/Data function ready :))

2 questions.

1) can (will) nitdroid be able to run the kindle application? so I can have all of my books in a decent reader as opposed to having to use the keyboard to move pages in fbreader?

2) will easy debian run in nitdroid?

If the answer is yet to these then its bye bye maemo to me...

It's A good step for those who are developing alternatives OS like Ubuntu and others!!! keep up the good work!!!

These guys are doing a great job porting Android to N900 - really impressive work. Can you imagine having the option to run Android, Maemo or maybe even Meego one day? Awesome! Thanks to all involved.

It should be able to, yes - I've not tried it though as I still need to do some more poking around to get the WLAN working. Is there some reason that the volume key or touchscreen page up/down don't work for you in fbreader? I've never had to open the keyboard when using it.

I doubt it. I don't think the command-line & X Server are as accessible under Android. I could be wrong though - I've only poked around with NITdroid briefly, and haven't used an Android phone.

1) I'm not sure why you need a keyboard to move pages in fbreader..later builds in extras-devel allow you to swipe up and down. But I imagine the Kindle application would work. You just have to get the .apk file somehow (market isn't working since it's not an authorized Google device).

2) I don't think so.

I just downloaded the Kindle application, it works perfectly.

ah here is the answer. I needed table of contents in my oreilly books and they did not work in the maemo fbreader. so I emailed fbreader directly and a developer gave me an updated version (12 something) that could read toc. He expressed his surprise that the n900 was still working on version 10 where 12 was the current stable version while 14 was the devel version. anyway I was able to map my keyboard to make it useful but lost both swipe on screen and the volume rocker changing function.

too bad development on fbreader does not incorporate the latest stable version for arm as that can in fact read toc.

That card won't work. It needs to be microsd.

Re: NiTDroid - Phone/Data function ready :))

Many people say that the N900 has reached it's end of life early.

With Android and possibly Meego the N900 can't have a brighter future then it obviously have.

As usual, thanks to all the Devs for supporting the n900 for all of us.

It's amazing.

I hope they'll publish what they've done to reverse engineer the 3g/phone controller.
I hope to see a meego with 3g/phone too in the future or maybe a nice phone app for my Fedora 12 partition :)
It's a pain in the *** that if you dual boot in something else than maemo the phone wont work:P

I have the latest stable arm build 0.12 and it does not support volume key for page changes, I use it cause it does sjupport toc which I totally need to read tech books (like oreilly).
