Re: Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Correct me if I am wrong, but beat2x is that game that looks like DDR?

Andy1210 2010-08-30 17:52

Game crashes for me after loading screen..

Code:

Error reading <data/splash.bmp>: Couldn't open data/splash.bmp
~ $ ls /opt/beat2x/data/
loading.bmp settings.dat. splash.bmp

Thanks for your efforts

Edit: wrong executable..

/opt/beat2x/apstart crashes, with
Code:

Error reading <themes/default/intro.ogg>: Module format not recognised

What are the permissions/ownership on your data/splash.bmp file?

Permissions are fine, (rwx all the way) but see my edit above, I was launching the wrong thing from the command line anyway.

Edit: mplayer plays /opt/beat2x/themes/default/intro.ogg fine (just audio)

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Code:

apt-get update && apt-get install libvorbis0a libmikmod2
but i think when install the game, this packages will be installed automatically...

dpkg -l says both
libmikmod2 3.1.11-a-2
and
libvorbis0a 1.2.3.tk1
are already installed :/

Edit: though above poster says libmikmod2 3.1.10 is required..

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Ok, I'll keep looking into it I guess. Is it working for everyone else?

Edit: Kevstacey, that's what I'm getting too.

In terminal, as root:
Code:

apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2
Though you should probably have it installed already as a dependency, what does
Code:

dpkg -l | grep libsdl-mixer
give you? As I said, that package is installed on my phone and the game doesn't run.

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

ftw:
Code:

apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2=1:1.2.6-5+0m5+ogg+mp3
:)

Hmm, the upgrade conflicts with mp-fremantle-203-pr ... which is the UK metapackage for firmware updates, as far as I can tell

Andy1210 2010-08-30 20:54

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

hmm, have you pr1.2??

Code:

Andy1210-N900:~# dpkg -l | grep mixer
ii  libsdl-mixer1.2    1:1.2.6-5+0m5+ogg+mp3    Mixer library for libSDL

This worked for me. I must be old and slow though - I suck :)

Perhaps another song will be better.

PS - Any way we can map this to ps3 controller?

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

ahm, yep, i checked now, i haven't mp-fremantle-generic-pr package :)
mp-fremantle-generic-pr: Depends: libsdl-mixer1.2 (= 1:1.2.6-5+0m5)

but this game works only with+ogg+mp3 version...

Kevstacey 2010-08-30 21:16

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

i got it working by:

apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2

it said some error about accelymote but when i exit xterm and clicked the beat2x icon it came on :)
keys are really difficult to play with though. Is there a way of setting
it to the standard keyboard arrow keys? cheers

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

if you set Control Mode in Settings to Combined or Stick, you can play with W A D X :)

Kevstacey 2010-08-30 22:43

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

yeah but its too hard using W A D X,
can you not use standard up, down, left and right keys?

What exactly do we have to get to not fail ?

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Is there any chance to implement a touch control instead of keyboard?

Anyway seems very nice, thanks.

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Does this depend on OpenGL ES or is it just "plain" SDL? I wonder if it would work on the N8x0 devices as well.. You know, the ones that DO have USB host mode ;) We could do something like this then:

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

Check the depends: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../beat2x/0.5-2/ ;)

Andy1210 2010-08-31 19:45

Re: [Maemo5] Beat2x - Stepmania style game

i think you copyed binary as root, so now you need set permission:
chmod +x /opt/beat2x/beat2x
