Excellent news. Thank you for your work and posting the update, kakaroto.

For those interested, his kernel module is compiled against omap1, so you'll need to be running the stock kernel for this to load.

Once source is available, I'm sure somebody will compile it against the power-kernel headers.

sorry for not reading all.
Will this open up for using a linux distro with all the power of my ps3 and bluray? do i need an older version of psx os to install other os?
or is this only for playing pirate games?

Question.

Will there be a backup manager for this?

Homebrew is currently non-existent so the only benefit or show that it's working would be to have the Backup Manager........

You can see that it's working by having the "Install packages" menu item - no need for the Backup Manager. That said, if I understand it correctly, you can just use the Backup Manager from PSJailbreak, installing it as a package.

This still requires 3.41 i assume? my 3.15 ps3 hangs with a black screen at boot when my n900 is attached to it and the exploit is enabled...

To use Backup Manager you have to edit /dev_xxxx to /dev_bdvd in psfreedom.ko.

Im struggling too, copied the files into /root but not sure how to run them, wont do it with winscp via ssh

So here's how it works.. download the .tar.gz, extract it, copy the files to your n900 (with scp, into /root), then ssh into your N900 and type : ./psfreedom-enable.sh

Then you can follow the usual procedure, unplug the PS3 from power, plug in the N900, connect the power to the PS3, then press power and *quickly* press the eject button... Then just let the magic happen!

Once you're done or want to revert back to the normal operation mode of the N900 (or to charge it) run the command ./psfreedom-disable.sh

In the future, we'll have a nice package to install, a GUI application, I'll make use of the LEDs to show you the status of what it's doing, and I'll have it auto-revert to mass storage mode, so you can use your N900 not only to enable homebrew but also to store your homebrew!

you have to have root access to n900
copy the 3 files to root (via winscp)
run ./psfreedom-enable (from putty, or n900 console)
unplug the PS3
connect the n900
plug the PS3, push the on button and then the eject

when you finish you have to run ./psfreedom-disable if you want to use the USB of the N900

if you have permision problems run sudo ./psfreedom-enable

I just cant get this to do anything, I run the script but nothing happens, Is something meant to happen on the n900 when I do the ps3 procedure? Cos it just comes up with the usb connected screen

It wont do anything unless you are using backup manager to rip or play a previous ripped game. You wont nontice any difference on the N900 or the PS3.

I can confirm, I get the error:

insmod: error inserting 'psfreedom.ko': -1 Invalid module format

I installed fine, created a backup and realised the dev_xxxx hadn't been replaced with dev_bdvd in psfreedom.ko. Wasn't sure if this needed to be edited before compiling or if it could be done after so I tired this..

vi psfreedom.ko
:%s/dev_xxxx/dev_bdvd/g
:wq

Reset psfreedom and PS3 and after going into backup manager and selecting the game it appeared as a BDVD in the XMB.

Loading the game causes the PS3 to freeze completely, any suggestions?

Might be a game that is not working with backup manager.
