Installing NITDROID help needed !
 

Need your help guys ...
Now recently there was a release of NITDroid in which it stated that the installation becomes very easy

now if i install it , is it easy or is it still complicated ..
i wud have done it but the thing that stops me from doing it is that how will i be able to get back to Maemo 5 ....
will it ask me to choose the OS when i boot up the phone or is htere any other confusing way .???

the only reason i want to install it is to play the 3D Games like Asphalt 5 and NFS shift and other Android 3d games ...
now another question that arsies is that where can i get these games and how shud i install it ...

plz , dont give me the link to that page where all the discussion of nitdroid is bcz i cant get any help from there ...

i am newbie , plz anyone help me on this who have a experience of it ..

hi,i installed nitdroid last week,the nitdroid repository has now closed but you can get it from extras devel,have a look at the nitdroid development forum. You will need a 2 gig micro sd card,and use the auto installer it worked first time for me no probs....

and what i really want to know is that since u have installed so how u go back to Maemo 5 .... and have u tried the 3d games ...?

Frankly, I don't think Nitdroid is yet where you need it to be, so I think you shouldn't bother installing it yet. It is easy if you follow instructions closely and if you know what you are doing, but otherwise it is a big hassle, and Nitdroid still has some limitations. In the interest of efficiency, you should just forget it for now, I think.

extras devel, get nitdroid auto installer,let it do its stuff......its not finished yet,no phone,no 3g,no gps sat nav, just loads of games and apps from android market....

When you turn on/reboot your phone you boot into multi boot where you choose wich OS to boot. It's shown with numbers and the kernels. So 1. woud be maemo and 2. would be NITdroid (if you're oc'ing you'll have 3 options, a power kernel aswell).

If you're in NITdroid and want to go back to maemo just reboot and then in multi boot choose option 1. (maemo). (remember to slide keyboard open when rebooting).

I've tried 3 games and they look and runs smooth, but they're made for multitouch, but some of them have keyboard choise (set as touchscreen). I'm not sure wich ones will work with keybaord. The ones i've tried are all 'try and by' from Gameloft :)

there was a new version recently updates which stated a easy way of installation ..
while i have seen a very confusing and complicated way of installing it on maemo.org forum (http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...light=nitdroid)
it requires me to type many commands in x-terminal ...

so wud i be required to type all those commands and then install nitdroid on n900 ?
and if not then that multi-boot option that appears when i will boot my phone , is it sum software which ihave to install before installing nitfroid or will it be automatically installed in that nitdroids latest easy-way to install claimed package ...

looking 4rwrd to ur answer eagerly ......

multiboot is installed by the autoinstaller,its really straightforward honest....

No need for long codes in xterm with the autoinstaller from extras-devel.

Just follow this link, it's only a few codes to write in xterm:

You need to have rootsh installed to get root. I think it's in extras or extras-devel...

It's really simple and easy with the auto installer; I had no problems with it and it even partitions your SD card for you!

sorry again for another 2 questions (and it sounds more lame again) .........

so i hook up the 2gb mmc

Question1 -- its 2gb but it says less than 2gb like 1.89 gb or 1.90gb so is that fine ?

Question2 -- when im typing those commands in xterminal
is that going to automatically install on mmc ....???

Yes. but you probably need to partition your card manually if it hangs on "formatting ext3", as it did for me. Just follow the instructions, and it will work. Make a 1MB FAT (as instructed) and the installer does the rest.

Thats ok, it wont show full 2gb, something mathmatics?

Yes it automatically installs on your sdcard (mmc) and some of it on the emmc and rootfs (maemo native memory/flash).

Some people experience that it stalls on install at partitioning the sdcard. If so try this link for solution:

If you head on over to the NITdroid forums there is a thread where it explains how to get by this problem.

Something to do with certain Sandisk cards. This happened to me on my second card but it was soon sorted.

Follow the instructions in this first post EXACTLY, and it will work. + make a 1MB FAT (instructions in the link). This is how I did it. I cannot explain it better than already explained in the link. If this is too difficult, then you are probably better off not fiddling with Nitdroid, just my opinion.

i went to dousans directed page and it got past ext3 ..

now its at downloading nitdroid-n900-the-flying-world.tbz2
and i have heard it also hangs at that too.

It may take an hour or more. I didn't take the time (forgot all about it), but it sat on my desk for a couple of hours I guess.

I just followed myself on the above link, and did 2 more yesterday, all together 3 multiboot nitdroid microSD, all finished in 7 min, with the same apps. Of course, I could have just copy the SD to the new card, that would be easier. But I just want to see whether the instructions still work. It is.

by the way ,
how am i able to install apps and games on it ..
i have got games demos link , shud i downlaod them and it will get installed automatically or after downloading it i have to install it ? and from where , i dont see a app manager like we have in maemo ......

1) best way to install is to click on the package, .apk, either from your web browser or file manager (1st thing to do is to dl a filemanager: Androidmarket>oi file manager, click it will install by self). This is the CORRECT way to install on android.

2) some .apk can be auto installed if put into folder /and/data/app, upon reboot nitdroid, self install. This installation will FAIL if the installation required any user input, like "agree", "yes"...

I have a installed version 0.2.6-3.

I have read that you can now make phone calls but I will not allow it when I go to configure it gives me error. Any solution?

It has not been released yet and as far as i know it's 'only' calls and no sound at the moment ;)

No I am not a moderator and I don't need to be. NITDroid has its own forum so whats wrong in asking someone to take the discussion there?

now i only installed nitdroid to play sum wesum 3d games on n900 ..
now when i downloaded the asphalt 5 demo .. it downloaded it and then said , the phone does not allow you to install apps which are not downloaded from the Market(Google) ..
now what shud i do ... ?
and will installing ol file manager solve this problem cuz file is downloaded and the only thing missing is the game icon in the menu .
so i have to install it via ol file manager or re-download it again ?

Not to be mean my man, but have you used a stock Android phone before? You have to go into your Settings Menu and Allow Installation of Non-Market Apps.


1. From your main App Launcher go to Settings--->Applications and enable(hit the check box) Unknown Sources.

2. Download the Application you want and select the installer (an apk file) from the location you saved it and follow the install instructions.

I haven't used NITDroid, but thanks for posting this thread because I can see that if it works for someone with no clue, then I should be in good shape.

There is a difference between asking and ordering.

Pointing to a place would start with "You might get better results at the Nitdroid forum..." or something like that.

Commanding starts with things like "Don't play with your food!" or "Post that somewhere else!"

the files i download like asphalt5 demo , where does it go .. i downloaded oi app manager but where duz the download goes
and one really important question - how to close the browser ...
normally all apps and functions close by lokc sliding key but browser duzt close .. why and whats da solution ?
