Ditto. I haven't been prompted for a nitdroid update in months, yet the changlelog on your wiki suggests that I have missed two.

I remember when it was first installed, it downloaded the 'the_flying_world' which I think is v0.0.6, but I'm just guessing.

My extras-devel repo is working fine, and the command 'nitdroid-installer --version' yeilds nothing.

When I try 'apt-get install nitdroid-installer' (after updating) I just get "nitdroid-installer is already the newest version".
Which is of course, very helpful :)

Suggestions? (or am I in the wrong thread for reporting this?:o)

Thats because the auto installer is a clever piece of coding. You dont need to redownload the installer everytime, as before it downloads any NITDroid files, it downloads a manifest that tells it exactly what it needs to download and riun. The manifest file gets changed when an update comes out so really the only way to know of an update is when it's mentioned on a forum. You then just run the installer and you get a nice new version of NITDroid.

The best way to know of updates is on the NITDroid forum as little updates tend to get burried in long threads here.

I see... (I think)
So it updates all the missing/changed files automatically (and without my permission? I've never been prompted...)
Suddenly I feel very guilty about uninstalling nitdroid...

I take it that 'apt-get install nitdroid-installer' is the way to go?

Running the installer will always grab the most recent files and re-install NITDroid. It wont update nitdroid but re-installs with the latest version.

Honestly, keep an eye on the NITDroid forum and you will always know of the latest updates/features.

If you wanna re-install, yes.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 N900 Help Thread.

Pleased to report successful installation of v0.0.8.

There was a small problem where it hang at the beginning (couldn't format an ext3 partition on the sd card), but after manually partitioning and then restarting the installer - everything went fine.

:D

You can type numbers only with HW keyboard, the VK not working for numbers.

yes, it is a bug that has been files and under investigation. you can change the onscreen keyboard, there is something on the nitdroid forum about one that apparently works very well.

I use palm(Access) graffiti input, it takes care of number, or even more simple, use google voice.

HI guys! I used the autoinstaller and installed nitdroid on my nokia n900. My problem is that i cant get into the boot menu. I tried to start with the keyboard open and i removed the battery and the micro sd card.
Ive tried to reinstall nitdroid several times but i still have the same problem.
Its kind of strange because when i started the phone the first time after the installation the boot menu popped up, but now nothings happening,
when i start the phone with the keyboard open the nokia logo pops up and then the phone shut down.

I would be grateful for any help :)

Sorry for slaughtering the english language, im really tired...

guys, we all know the autoinstaller was created to make the installation process easy(ier), however, you should still spend the extra few minutes on the nitdroid forum and especially the nitdorid wiki before just tapping the icon and expecting miracles:

from the wiki

"If your installation hangs on [Formatting /dev/mmcblklp2 (ext3) ...] then follow the partitioning instructions here" :

http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?t...:_Partitioning

After Step 1, proceed with AUTOINSTALLER.

why do i say all this? because it took me 3 tries and 2 SD cards to get it right, and i DID spend the minutes on the forum and wiki :)

Make sure you leave less than 2GB for NITDroid on your SD card; NITDroid will use the second partition of your formatted SD card.

If you have 4GB card, format your SD card to be 2.1GB as fat32 for first partition, and 1.9GB as ext3 (linux format) for second partition; 6.1GB and 1.9GB respectively for a 8GB and so on.

For 8GB card the the code on XTerminal would be

sudo gainroot

umount /dev/mmcblk1p1

sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1

<< EOF
,6100,C
,,L
,,
,,
EOF

umount /dev/mmcblk1p1

mkdosfs /dev/mmcblk1p1

mke2fs -L NITDroid -j -m0 /dev/mmcblk1p2

Then use the autoinstaller.

Note: to avoid syntax errors and misspelling, use OpenSSH or on your N900 copy-paste from talk.maemo to XTerminal

I'm assuming you logged on to http://forum.nitdroid.com/ and the answer to your question was just hiding under the other more awesome NITDroid stuff? :)

Check out this: http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?....msg467#msg467

So now, how about venturing out to the NITDroid forum or maybe even take a glance at the wiki;)

Haha, don't you love it? I've been following NITDroid for quite some time but I'm still apprehensive about installing it until its fully operational.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 N900 Help Thread.

Hi,
I think I got a problem... I tried to install Nitdroid using the Autoinstaller, but my Xterm gave out some things I didn't really understand. Anyway it said something about multiboot. First I searched for it using the App Manager, but since I didn't find anything there I just tried "apt-get install multiboot" (having root access at that time) and also some other things quite similar to these (like "start multiboot" or something), because I thought I need to get that "multiboot"-thing working before I could go on. But it still didn't work and so I just rebooted.
But when I tried to turn my phone on again, it first looked normal, the white screen with the NOKIA-writing turned up. But than it went dark again, vibrated again and once again showed the white screen with "NOKIA" on it. And all this over and over again (I let it work for about 15 minutes, when nothing happend I ended it by taking out the battery).
Can anyone tell me what to do to get my phone working again? And if there's no other possibility, I would also be very happy about a link that can explane how to flash the phone (Because that's the only idea I had, I hope for your ideas)
