What was that device that had a 3 way slider, sliding down would make a qwerty, to one side would bring a numeric pad, and to the other i think it brought a media keypad (stop, play/pause, next, previous etc) ?

That's not true. Show me a cellular manufacturer which still releases firmware updates for non-flagship phones which have been released a long time ago.
The Nokia 5800 - for example - was released 2 years ago and still gets software updates.

Nokia's support is not the problem - IMHO the real problem is the inability of Nokia to set a deadline for a software update and reveal this deadline to the public.
I don't even mention a 'bugfix' list, but I think its time that Nokia would straight up in the line with all the other cellular manufacturers and start to share this valuable information with their customers.

I'm not so sure about why they don't publicize updates release dates - maybe because this way their dev team doesn't have to commit to a specific date, and then they can work without the pressure - this is only a guess, but if its true, then its a very poor excuse as the whole industry works quite well under this 'pressure', so they can do it too - and if they can't, Nokia should find a team that CAN...

I hope Stephen Elop would put this issue in a high priority, as its unthinkable that in the dawn of 2011, customers would only 'accidentally' discover that their device has a new firmware update, and will have to spend hours to find what this update actually updates...

I've read lots of reports of tech support, the physical side, being most unpleasant, haven't had experience with them myself though (when i needed them the only authorized shop is in the other side of the town, i ended paying a local repair shop to do the job instead)

I think they have set dates before but they generally just miss them. (N900's launch, PR 1.2)

AFAIK no one ever knew a solid firmware release date, at least not from a decent time before the update was actually released...
It always was "I've heard a rumor that the update is due to be released next week", and when "next week" passed it turned to "next weekend", and when that passed (and a few people died from over-anticipation) it turned into "in the middle of the next month"...
My point is - that it ALWAYS was some sort of a guessing game. This is NOT HEALTHY.
IMO Nokia should be able to say "The update for X will be released on Y", and if they miss it, they can apologize and set another date as the deadline and that's ok - but the situation now is that they don't say ANYTHING. NEVER...
I think this is wrong, and hope they'll change their attitude and approach to the matter, as soon as possible.

Stop pretending, Nokia has abandoned the N900. One more update (possibly) and that is it.
