IMO the tablet version will probably be made for x86 processors, which is nothing like the ARM processor of the N900...
If this conversion is possible, it'd probably be quite difficult and maybe even incompatible.

Sure, but we don't know the hardware of the tablets yet, do we? Maybe it's using the new ARM Dual Core CPU? If yes, it would make the port easier to do, right?

Nonsense. Done properly you should be able to cross compile between platforms trivially. And since the entire project is centered around platform independence between x86 and ARM, then there should be no issues moving between the two.

If there is a problem, then it's a bug.

Of all the reading I have done on here I have yet to see in simple terms what MeeGo will do and how it changes everything? I can't seem to find any apps for MeeGo anywhere...In simple terms....What the hell is so good about it? Does it run Andriod apps? I have no idea why I would change my phone to run MeeGo.....any help would be appreciated. (bare in mind I know a little bit of techno speak but am not a IT specialist)

MeeGo is a fully community-controlled mobile operating system. Unlike Android, both development and the future course is determined not by a single entity (with influence behind the scenes) but by everyone involved, and most importantly, in public. Admittedly MeeGo has had to transition into this from its start, but instead of having to wait for Google to drop the latest version of Android you can follow it in-progress (for better or worse.)

It's much more "forward looking" and has a lot more in common with regular Linux distributions than stuff like Android. This lets it leverage existing software projects and frameworks, with the goal of it being easier to maintain and advance than doing it all yourself.

Admittedly the value is very technical and somewhat esoteric, but it's those esoteric and technical reasons that I bought my N900 and why I'm hoping MeeGo is successful. It's not for everyone at this point, certainly.

Someone could make it, I suppose.

Unless there's something about Maemo right now that cripples it for you (IE you completely cannot use it) then you don't need to worry about MeeGo. However, down the line, you will probably be able to migrate your device (unofficially) to MeeGo if you really want to.

Thanks wmarone....a quick seach of MeeGo Apps brings up a whole heap of future on line Apps stores. I assume from your answer this is in anticipation of developers embracing the concept of the openess of the system to develop apps. I will certainly watch with interest. Thanks for your (understandable) reply.
