N900 is not OpenSource or Supported

Let's start by reviewing of some important N900 spec's

OpenGL ES 2.0
600 Mhz Processor
32GB Memory
256MB Ram
Full QWERTY keyboard

That's pretty much impressive but that's not it N900 Software stack is completely build on Opensource standards use of dbus, gtk, apt etc..

All of sudden nokia decided to leave everything behind and start meego that's fine but why do we have to suffer from there mistakes?

After meego is announced many people has many question will N900 get Meego or N900 will get updates or not.

Yes by seeing weekly build we can be sure N900 will get meego but how long our platform will be supported?

How long are you willing to depend on Nokia?
This problem is not only with Nokia all the mobile industry is suffering from this problems. There are many android phone which still running Android 1.5 just because there manufacture decided not to invest time on devices that are already sold.

Manufacture are very clever they Advertise there product as Opensource but they keep most of the important drivers like OpenGL closed this make impossible to build our own operating systems for our devices.

Manufactures does not care about us all they care is balance sheets.

We need a long term solution for this problem.

Please post your suggestions.

My only question is how many of these freaking whiner threads are we going to see before the mods merge them into one big ***** session thread and let the rest of us get on with making the N900 the best experience it can be

You have answered your own question.

I'm still think my N900 and this community rocks (apart from the whining)

It will *not* be supported. It's not going to happen, get it out of your heads. If MeeGo is open, you won't have to depend on Nokia.

You can get MeeGo when it appears. So what's your problem?

That depends on your definition of supported...

Most people probably consider me a big, if not the biggest, pain in the butt on this forum. With that said, here's where I stand with regard to what you said, in case you were curious to know:

If you have an N900 (and you bought it knowing it's the N900 that it is, cell phone and all) and you know MeeGo is being brought in as a fully open-source operating system to replace what ended up being a mockery of openness that Maemo turned out to be, I'm not sure that your original posting has very much merit in its existence. It appears that the answer to your whole posting is the entire project MeeGo.

On the other hand, if Nokia makes MeeGo depend upon numerous binary blobs to operate on this hardware... then you have a point.
