He's demonstrating a way for us Mortals to measure Steve Jobs' ego.

imo the best part of the interview seems to be this portion

4 Must Haves

Peter casually mentioned that if you're missing one of these you're dead:

* Delicious hardware
* Cloud services
* A rich user interface
* Developer ecosystem

Delicious hardware, if he is in charge of this part, I can expect the n9 to be a truly kickass powerful device.

Do you have any idea how long it takes to test stuff before its released? I would not be surprised if hardware for N9 has been locked down for about 6 months ago or maybe more. Of course this is just wild guess from some conversations with Nokia engineers.

I am not sure if this shows anything. It is not like Maemo is not well designed (from a design point of view), it is a an excellent design; simple and intuitive. From what I have tried with Meego, it is a similar concept regarding multitasking, but not much else can be said as there is not much that is working yet.

But this could mean that the N9 is much further into the future than most of us would like it to be. Besides, the Nokia Meego UX will be dictated by the Symbian UX, so there is definitely a chance that this new guy will bang his head into a Nokia wall.

All in all, I think hiring all these americans has one goal, and that is to get Nokia firmly into the north american marked. That is their main job, and not much more than that.

...and if he's not gesturing that? He's either telling everyone his fish-that-got-away story... or he's telling everyone a dysfunction story better explained to a doctor if it remains that way for more than four hours.

Reminds me of those old commercials... "I have a headache... this big..."

Actually, the bit of that 30 mintes talk that struck a chord with me was his point about attention to detail in terms of a small fault making the whole thing suck. I thought "USB sockets not properly fixed" - and hoped maybe we won't see stupid mistakes like that again.

That and the idea of a nine day interview - nearly as bad as getting into the church!

(Am I the only one who thinks that particular photo makes him look like Odo? In which case it can be as long as he chooses...)

I understand why Nokia hired Skillman and Elop, they are both (worked for Microsoft and PalmPre) an enermy of Nokia enermy :D

"You're an enermy of my enermy, even though we were once enermy but we are enermy not, we are now friend"

After listening to that podcast, I am thoroughly convinced that Nokia hired the right man for the job. Whether or not he is able to redirect corporate inertia though is a different question....

I guess we have skillman to thank(or not) for the curved glass and uhhh pillow exterior shape and all the new swiping gestures ala webos

maybe webos and meego can join up once nokia lays off all the harmattan/meego people
