The best way to convince other people to buy N900 is to show them this background:

This, if true, is a good argument to not use Google, and there are tons of others, but Google is not the same as Android. |

Is there not such a thing for Android? Isn't it possible to use SSH client on Android? Or run a SSH server? |

However, even if you can use Android without Google, I personally wouldn't bother because apps are one of the main draws. But technically, yes, you can. The N900 is still more standalone friendly. It isn't much of a selling point for most people, though. Eye candy and apps still win there. Terry |

Now maybe there is a clean build of Android that has absolutely no links to Google code but even if there is, it's doubtful that most users would even check or flash it. Of course, the government can monitor your cell phone no matter what make/model/os/carrier. I'm just old enough that this stuff bothers me. Personally I don't care what phone os makes someone happy. I just think that it's one of the few things that the N900 has going for it. Since that's pretty pitiful, I don't know why this bothers people. Terry |

I think I used the Ovi Store for a game on my N79, though and don't remember an SMS thing. Guess it didn't make much of an impact since I don't recall doing it. Terry |
