[Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I made a new Desktop Widget.

Moonphase Home Widget in extras-devel.

If you want to change the moon images, you have to replace
the to images
fullmoon.png and newmoon.png
in /usr/share/pixmaps/moon-phase-widget/
All other moon images (quarter, half ...) are generated
from this two images. The images should have the size
256x256.

regards
Nicolai

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

Are those the times at various locations? Are they part of the image or do they change with current time?

Not only upcoming, but those dates of moonphases which surrounds
the current date.

Nitpick (will probaby be picked up when this gets to extras-testing, but why not fix it early): debian/copyright doesn't acknowledge the moontool copyright / licence, and contains a bogus link to ftp.debian.org.

again thanks nicolai, great widget as always, i wonder if you can come up with a youtube widget with sign in option like on the android (shows the subscribed vids) and when you click on them they open in the browser....
now thats a high end widget, but again thank you for this widget .

I have a comment in the moontool source, to clarify
who is the author of this. And to quote John walker from
his website.

You're welcome to use this source code in any way you like, but absolutely no support is provided—you're entirely on your own.
the ftp.debian.org link is generated from the dh_make script
in scratchbox. (Hm, I never changed this in any of my apps).

Thank you for reporting this.

True, I didn't mean to imply foul play, just that debian/copyright has specific requirements and the version in this package is a bit misleading.

And to quote John walker from his website.
The version in the original *nix release (funny how it comes full circle now) is even more explicit:

Code:

This  program is in the public domain: "Do what thou wilt shall be the
whole of the law".  I'd appreciate  receiving  any  bug  fixes  and/or
enhancements,  which  I'll  incorporate  in  future  versions  of  the
program.  Please leave the original attribution information intact  so
that credit and blame may be properly apportioned.

Licence-wise it's fine, public domain is very different to GPL but compatible with it so no worries there.

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

This is a very slick widget, but unless Ive got it wrong the scale seems to be the wrong way round? I either seem to have a massive moon on my desktop that takes up 1/4 of the screen, but has pop up moon phases/dates I can read, or I can have a tiny moon (which is what I want on my desktop) but then the pop up moon phase/dates are tiny and too small to read?

Is it possible to have a small moon with large pop up details?

nicolai 2010-09-24 09:39

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

Yes you are right. The moon dates become unreadable for
the small size widget.
I can make the text bigger, same size as the small
moonphase images.

New Version 0.2

Now with larger font.

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

upgraded, rebooted still seems to be just the same

ie turn settings down to 80 - text to small to read

do I need to do anything else?

Hm, few users asked for a moonphase widget.
But still *zero* votes for this widget in extras-testing.
I would like to see this widget in extras.

I will install now and test today and vote if i have no problems.

I think there needs to be some more support for voting in general, there is stuff stuck in devels since i got the device back in February/March and many wonderful, stable apps that haven't progressed to extras.

richwhite 2010-10-21 11:28

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

Just installed it, looks neat! I have it in the top right of my home desktop (7 desktops and they're already running out of space!)

I like the pop-up dates, very nice, because it just looks like an image otherwise which i really like. Have you got a direct link to vote?

nicolai 2010-10-21 11:54

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

Thank you richwhite,

To vote, go to the maemo packages view page.
For all first time extras-testing voters please take a look at the
wikipage extras-testing for application testers. You should follow the
Extras-testing/QA checklist.

Thank you,

Nicolai

Re: [Announce] Moonphase Home Widget

Nicolai, i used this for about a week and in that time i experienced my widgets disappearing about 3 or 4 times. I don't know if it's related, because it did happen once before installing it (just after flashing to 1.3) and once or twice on 1.2, but i removed this and desktop clock widget from my screens to check if it was either. I have since retored desktop clock widget and had no incidence of widgets disappearing. I haven't put moonphase back yet, but it does appear that since removing it the problem has ceased.

Hi richwite,

I don't use this widget for myself, but I will put it
on my desktop now and leave it for a couple of days.
Maybe I can reproduce this behavior.

Thank you for reporting this

Thanks. Like i said, it may be totally unrelated and just coincidental because i did have a few instances before installing, but it did seem to happen much more frequently after installing and never since deleting from the desktops. It's a shame, i really love this one.
The disappearing act was never consistent either - once, for instance, i was playing with desktop clock settings and everything went, and another time my browser froze and crashed and when i did 'end current task' again the widgets had gone.

Hi need some more votes on extras-testing for this
widget. Would be nice to have this in extras.
