Didn't I complain aaaaages ago about how they should have made it a modular radio that you didn't have to be forced to buy WITH the unit---something you could buy as an accessory module to make it work with any carrier you wanted?

Tsk.

If the device were several times larger, maybe. But as tight a fit as devices this size are (hell, even N810 sized devices) making that work would be both expensive and fragile.

Doesn't matter anymore, does it? These tablets are proving that. Function AND form sometimes DO go together.. giving it more size to give it flexibility as WELL as screensize might have served Nokia better. Too bad they missed that boat JUST as they were in view of it.

Not to mention the nightmare it would be to get both the device and each module certified with the various agencies that regulate frequencies in all the countries they sell in. It makes sense from an engineering view point to make it as modular as possible so it can be switched out by a tech in case of failure. But to make it a user-accessible/serviceable module would add so much red tape that it wouldn't be worth it in the end for any company to do.

"modular" is pretty hard to do, that implies that anyone should be able to swap it out. probably the retention device would add some wasted space to the internals of the phone. And you'd still need to unscrew the back and it's easy for a noob to leave a screw rattling around and short the thing out, or get dust onto the lcd, or lots of other bad things. i'd be happy if they just used similar parts in all their phones, so that we could cut the thing out and solder in a replacement if we really wanted. and if we needed a firmware update or something, nokia could provide that since they insist on keeping the low level stuff closed-source.

Guys, how about getting back on topic? Want to rant about Nokia and AT&T's tempestuous relationship? Start a new thread.

i had to switch providers, to a new company that drops lots of calls, has bad coverage, higher rates... *cough* WIND *cough*

but at the same time, i never expected Nokia to release this phone at all. and i never expected a new provider to come along and have the right frequencies for 3G.

my point is, your complaints are valid, but Nokia never really wanted to put the work in to sell this phone to our countries properly. that doesn't make me happy about their decisions, but i don't see how i have any right to complain since i am lucky it works and exists at all.

this contest is ONLY for North Americans. I'm surprised Canada is included since it's connected to AT&T and we don't have that. so, i would save your complaining until every app is written in symbian. then we can at least stay on topic while complaining ;)

I have my N900 and I like it very much. I also have my N97. I hope they make more apps for the N900 as there are so many Symbian Apps and they are so easy to install. One big plus would be if you could use Mobipocket. Ebook reader only does some books and its hard to use. I use my N900 just fine on AT&T. Like I said, it just seems like you are stuck with so few apps and now it looks like Maemo is going away and Meego is coming in but from what I have read it will not be porterd or usable on the N900.
Thanks,
Bobby
