Battery Life after Flashing N900
 

Hi, just wondered if anyone else has experienced poor battery life after flashing the device.

I have flashed before with no problems but the other day i flashed it to the latest firmware and now my battery lasts no longer than 3 and a half Hours with no usage apart from the odd phone call and all apps turned off and also wifi turned off.

I just cant get my head around whats happened im now charging 3 times a day and if im out my house or work for longer than 3.5 hours my phone is dead.

Did you reflash it fully? I mean did you reflash emmc also? Also did you install old programs or is it draining battery when using plain factory default settings.

Hi, No i only flashed to the latest update i didnt flash the emmc do you think this could be the problem? yes pretty much everything is on the default settings even if i put the phone in offline mode.

Do you think its possible ive fried the battery whilst flashing?

Have you installed anything outside of Nokia or maemo.org extra repositories?

No my n900 is back to basics dont have any apps appart from standard apps that came with it, as i uninstalled all apps i had on it as i thought one of them may be causing the battery to drain.

Do you suggest Flashing th emmc?

Basically yes if you do not have time or skills to get your hands dirty and eventually all work might end up being wasted time :|

WARNING.
When flashing EMMC it means that all your PIM data will be lost so make backup and copy it to your desktop or to memory card on your n900 if you have bought one.

But before flashing I would advise to install conky (it shows some of top cpu usage processes running) or if you have basic skills on using x terminal then you might try running it and trying command:
top
Which shows what tasks are running. When you are idle there should be only little cpu usage byt xorg, but if there is some other processes using cpu constantly more than 2% then report here.

flashing emmc would wipe all software you had installed and might not been uninstalled properly (extras-testing stuff at least might do that)

Xterminal shows

CPU 98.2 usr/sbin/Browsed

it drifts between 87 and 98%

what does this mean?? also

CPU 7.3 usr/sbin/xorg

it drifts from 0.7% to 7.3



i know nothing to what this means i will now flash the emmc. thanks

browserd?
that´s microb (n900´s default browser) I suggest that you clear your browsers cache and uninstall all extensions what you have installed for it and reboot and see if it starts that again.

Browserd is actually just one part of browser. Browserd and browser are two processes that belong to browser engine.

Remove directories in /home/user -

.browser
.adobe
.cache
.macromedia
.mozilla

Or just rename it for case if something goes bad.
(Don't forget about leading dot in names!)

NEW PROBLEM.

Since deleting browser cache it sorted my phone battery didnt drain which is good.

Only now if i go on internet once or check emails it goes back to the way it was using 97% cpu, so every time im having to delte cache and re-boot? any suggestions welcome thanks for your help.

i would say flash the emmc.maybe there is some sick trash left that causes your browser to act like a biatch.
flash the whole thing and you will be a lucky man.

try firefox or opera and report bug to maemos bugzilla.
