Re: application manager is messed up

Check your rootfs space in xterm (df -h /) and, if you have rootsh installed, try running apt-get directly:
Code:

root
apt-get update

Re: application manager is messed up

i have the exact same problem and i cannot figure out how to fix the application manager; the Download, Uninstall and Update directories are all blank. "Operation Failed" message comes up when i start application manager or when i try doing something in it

please help! i tried searching all the threads in the forum but no solution yet!

is it because i have installed "Faster Application Manager" and the program is somehow conflicting with the original Application Manager? I can't uninstall Faster Application Manager though because of the problem listed above

If you write "top" in the terminal.. what does it show? Maybe the app manager didn't close right... I do not think it's because of fapman.

what indication exactly are you wanting to see from that screen?

u're not the only one with that problem. i have the exact same symptoms. i just use fapman now and never bothered to fix it. i can do apt-get update normally from xterm.

oops, clicked on "Post" a bit too quickly. i rebooted the phone and the problem went away.

the only problem is that i don't know how to install or anything from fapman because i "mark" them for installation but i don't actually know how to install. i click the green play button and it gives me an error so i fail at installing anything

If you can use apt-get or fapman.. then it is probably something else. You might wanna try reinstalling hildon-application-manager.

Thats because the original app manager is running in the background. You can't have two managers running at the same time.

my issue went away after the reboot. something transient i guess.

It could be running in the background which means you can't see it.

look in the log.. you find it in the program menu of fapman or open it with "leafpad /root/.fapman/lastlog.txt"

what exactly does the "apt-get update" function do?

after entering that, it the last line says:
"W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems"
is this an error?

Re: application manager is messed up

apt-get update updates the repository info. it seems that you have duplicate repositories. go to application manager and disable every repository and exit. after that enable repositories one by one as long as things work and when it stops working, you know where the problem is if it lies in repositories.

It shouldn't but could..

If you try

1. sudo gainroot
2. apt-get install leafpad

and gets an error post it here.. Post the fapman log too.

And

1. leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list

how do i delete the empty lines? backspacing doesn't delete them; is it okay to have blank lines? here's how it looks:

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6793382_n.jpg

i have also just tried application manager with this change, and it still says "Operation Failed." Is a reboot required, or what should i do next?

The extras-testing line should say "deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free non-free". Not "fremantle-1.2".

To edit you use "i" and to save you press Esc followed by ":wq". When you have pressed "i" you could edit it like in any normal editor. To open and edit it..
1. sudo gainroot
2. vi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list

You could use cat to see if everything looks alright:
3. cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list

Then update:
4. apt-get update

There's your problem. You need to edit the /etc/apt/preferences file and make sure there's no empty lines between the Package: line and the Pin: line.

I suspect he's installed the updated hildon-home package - that's what's caused this issue in every other case I've seen. In this case, he'll need the file to keep the updated packages pinned (otherwise the original versions will get reinstalled).

The URL for extras-testing also wants to have fremantle instead of fremantle-1.2 - that'll get rid of this warning:

I'm not sure the changes to the repository file get picked up by App Manager though, so I'd check you're using the correct repository settings there as well.

There's your problem. You need to edit the /etc/apt/preferences file and make sure there's no empty lines between the Package: line and the Pin: line.

i can't delete the empty line; when press "i" to edit, then press "backspace" on the empty line, nothing happens

Use "dd" instead to delete the line. You'll also need to delete the empty line between Pin and Pin-Priority.

Make this

Code:

Package: hildon-desktop

Pin: release a=unstable

Pin-Priority: 1001

Look like this

Code:

Package: hildon-desktop
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 1001

To remove the blank lines. Put the marker at the line and press d two times. Make sure you do not have the marker on a line you do not want to delete.

i have made the change to only "fremantle" for extras-testing. here's how it looks:

in/sh: [enter]: not found
/home/user # cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list
deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/apps/ ./
deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ssu/002 ./
deb https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle1.2/ovi/ ./
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ fremantle-1.2 free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing/ fremantle free non-free
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel fremantle free non-free
deb http://moff.mozilla.com/latest-beta/maemo/multi/ chinook release
deb http://repository.sygic.com/maemo/ fremantle non-free
deb http://codex.xiaoka.com/apt/ fremantle-1.2 free non-free

and got this new error:
