[Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Situare application introduces a concept of social locating. It allows users to view, update and share their location using Facebook accounts. Situare utilizes OpenStreetMap database for mapping, CloudMade for route calculation and device GPS for automatic locating.
Project home is located in https://garage.maemo.org/projects/situare/. Check also http://www.situare.net. Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
I get 'Unknown server error' when ever I open the application, also when trying to send location to facebook and trying to update my position.
I have gps and 2g (edge) active, no 3g signal where I currently am though I am connected to wifi. |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
You have visited http://client.situare.net and then tried the login?

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
If you like the software, please spare some time for learning how package testing works at http://wiki.maemo.org/Help_testing_software
If application passes every point required in http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing/QA_Checklist , give it thumbs up! |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
I also get "Unknown server error" and I have logged into the site.

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Indeed the application shows that error occasionally, but message seems to go to the Facebook wall. :/
|
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Thanks. Server seems to be quite slow and the application might get undefined error message. Of course there are problems instantly when I announce the app. :D

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Working good. FB association is easy. I'm testing it with a few people with N900's now. Friends list has populated, however locations are not being filled.
Some other small bugs. Do you have an email address you (and the rest of the team) can be reached at? Or do you prefer garage tracker entries? |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Have your friends updated their location? After that friends' locations should be shown. You have to use refresh button to update data, because server is not pushing the data to the client.
Please use garage tracker to submit bug reports etc. |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
All is working now.
Excellent app. Everything is fluid. I'll be posting a quick video review shortly. |

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Well the app works for me, but it shows a green arrow (which I presume is my Situare location at 0,0 (i.e. somewhere off the coast of Nigeria) while the little red dot that shows my GPS location is where I actually am, a little further north in Bath, England.
Pressing the green update button doesn't seem to do anything. Any thoughts? |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Ah, it's just updated me to my correct location (I set auto updates), so all's well and good :)
|
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Actually the location update is done by pressing envelope (below green refresh button) and then you can write the message or leave it empty and update your location. Maybe the location update is not that intuitive. :)
When you update your location, it selects your GPS position or if GPS is not in use, it selects current map center position. |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Ah ok, so the green circular arrow just looks for updates to your friends' locations then?
I pressed the wrong button in that case, doh! :) |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
The server is pull-based so the client has to request updates. Of course this could be done automatically with timer interval, but currently you have to do it manually.
E: Green arrow - refresh, updates your and friends information Envelope - Update location and send message (publish on Facebook) |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Selecting your own profile (first tab) should really bring up the public on Facebook dialog instead of having it in the last / envelope tab. Seems a bit more intuitive to me.

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Does this only work with friends who are using Sitaure? Or does it integrate with Facebook places?

This was started before Facebook released Places, but of course now it would be better to implement Places to the application. As far as I know Places can be used to check-in to predefined locations, but our application let you update your location wherever you want. :) |
Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
One person has voted the app, but I hope more people would test it and give thumbs up (or down) :)

Re: [Announce]Situare - Locate and share your position with friends
Tried today. First of all, it Capitalize first letter of email - it's confusing, and maybe it capitalize password input text as well - at least I couldn't get login successfully (and I'm sure I enter proper email and password, and my internet connection is ok). Anyway, after that I see message box(yellow horizontal message) with error "Map download failed", which repeats continuously after clicking.
So, unusable with this issues. :( |

Hello, this looks as if it may have potential.
I successfully managed to post a couple of locations very easily using the N900 client. Google part seems a bit off though. When you view in Facebook has no postings at all. There is nothing in the listings either.. Oh, and I have no friends - but that's not your fault :-D |
