Well Smart Devices released yet another Mid it is essentially a SmartQ v5 without Windows Ce however there some key differences. The price is cheaper it is around 85-100 US Dollars depending on were you buy it and where you live in the world.
Specs
Operating System: Android and Ubuntu
Processor: 600mhz Samsung Arm11 processor that is overclockable 800mhz
Ram: 256mb ddr2
Screen: 4.3inch 800x480 resistive touchscreen
Connectivity: 802.11b/g WiFi, HDMI USB 2.0 Slave, USB 2.0 host, and Bluetooth2.0+EDR
Storage: 2gb with SDHC Expansion
Sure the device really isn't all that special in terms of hardware or software but it nicely priced at 100 dollars you can get it here http://www.allpmp.com/goods-380-Smar...Tablet+PC.html
It is a nice budget friendly alternative to the Nokia n900 and OpenPandora for folks looking for a pocketable Linux box. The thing is also nice because I can run both Ubuntu and Android.

Also I forgot to mention this thing can do 1080p video playback with pretty much any format with VLC in Ubuntu. This thing can also run a great deal of Linux Applications such as Pidgen, Gimp, Abiword, Gnumeric, ETC. It also comes with Android 2.1.

Well this device is running on the same chip and it seems to be playing 1080p video beautifully http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHclztNuTfU.

Kinda makes me sad not to see any more Nokia Internet Tablets, but this thing can fill the Void that Nokia left without a true Nokia n800 and n810 successor. The SmartQ v3 looks like an excellent replacement and its cheaper too.

Oh its quite simple, the video playback is not done on the CPU, its done on a special DSP or video core that can do the H264 stuff in hardware.

Rockchip, telechip, and a whole bunch of others do it this way.

Well when you startup the device by default there is menu where you can switch between OSes with the volume up and down keys. The device also by default comes with a version of Ubuntu with and modified interface and Android 2.1 with Google Apps and Android Market.

I think you can download one for Android because the functionality isn't there by default in Android, however I do think it can be done in Ubuntu.

Re: SmartQ v3 Is Here

this device is full of defects which make it unusable
often has to be reset because impossible to switch on , also battery is holding less than 1/2h in many of items sold from (2 other costumers with the same problem than mine)
updating firmware solved wifi issue , but not this problem , which is hardware defect
and seller refusing to communicate (eletroworld ...), my item is new in its box and no possibility to send back without his agreement
just lost my $$
