I left dbus-monitor and psutils top running for an hour, but it didn't catch any dbus traffic while blank-locked. What I see in top log is mostly mmcqd activity about each minute, with some dsme and mce activity. Unfortunately, the problems seems to come and go with no evident reason. Unless it is continuously dumping text to the log file, I'll proceed with the debug binary. Quote:

Re: [Announce] advanced-systemui
ok....
power + d-pad center locks the device (n800), but fails to unlock. at least it now pops up a message telling me to press the full screen button. strange thing is that if i forget and hit the d-pad center the last program I selected using personal launcher is opened with the screen still locked. also the battery status keeps pooping up every ten seconds or so taking the focus away from what I am doing and requiring me to tap the screen to get rid of it. very annoying. edit: think I fixed the battery status by de-selecting "asui-battery" then reselecting it in "panels"....odd |

ASUI's idle time polling will make the default battery applet open its menu, uncheck the default battery applet or turn off ASUI's idle time. Odd that cycling asui-battery would make the default battery stop its popup. ASUI can't map itself or grab keyboard focus with its blank window when the battery's popup is open, could be why dpad center passes through, although not sure why fullscreen would go to ASUI. This is a known problem and if anyone knows how SystemUI is able to force focus grabbing popups and menus to close... You can also change secondary unlock key from fullscreen to dpad center with the settings, under button modes. I would get the dpad center problem resolved BEFORE changing from fullscreen. If power+dpad center shows the "press fullscreen" notification but also launches an app then ASUI and personal launcher are both receiving the event, dpad center can be used to unlock the device but will also launch an app. It could be that personal launcher is only grabbing the dpad center and arrows and this somehow allows ASUI to grab the rest of it. -- I'm going to install personal launcher and see if I can reproduce this problem and find a fix. Will also profile and try to optimize the dbus code, I know a couple unhandled dbus signals actually wake up the ASUI process. |
Re: [Announce] advanced-systemui
In asui settings there is a statement that claims that if it is selected that the d-pad center will work...yet there is no check box to do so. the check box that seems to be related to this statement is "power button always opens and never closes asui"

Re: [Announce] advanced-systemui
what your after is at the bottom, secondary unlock button.
i guess the option you mentiin is there to avoid confusion when asui is already showing sand one wants to lock the device. |
Re: [Announce] advanced-systemui
found the option to select secondary lock button.
I am still having a problem though... if I have any program running and attempt to lock the screen I get the following pop-up's 1st: An application may have paused screen blanking. 2nd: Screen is locked and should blank in a minute. well after waiting 10+ min. I still receive these messages and nothing works at all. have to pull the Batt. to reboot. (which for me is a pain as my battery cover is taped in place due to the latch having become very loose). on a side note: my goofy experience of the d-pad center activating the last selection in personal launcher went away after pulling the battery. |

no alarms... when the pop-ups occur the device is unresponsive to any input. only way to deal with it is by pulling the battery. held the power button for a full minute....nothing... |

Here is the debug log. The device was idle, in flight mode and blank-locked with no other programs running, for 6:45 hours before closing the log, battery dropped 12.4% during this time.

And play around with the power button, different combos of short and long taps and something might eventually cause it to shutdown. Also try setting the secondary unlock key to 'none'. Something is different on your device and we just need to find out what that is. Do you have ssh? It might be a good idea to install it on your device so you can reboot it via ssh while conducting these tests. |
