Just follow the instructions in the first post of this thread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ght=flip+clock

Omit steps 6 to 9 if you just want hours+minutes, then apply the howtos below to hide the N900 picture frame and make the digits larger.

I used the "qosimo" white-on-black digits.

Looks complicated on the face of it but it's really only about 5 minutes' work, and the instructions are very accurate. Worth the trouble IMHO !

PS: the only thing that gave me trouble, as this was my first QBW setup, was that the "import" business is not described in the Flipclock post but in the wiki docs for QBW. That's simple too, once you know:

- click that "Advanced button" you see on the Settings dialog
- confirm the warning message
- on the next screen, click "Import file to buffer" (there you get to choose the relevant .TXT file you downloaded)
- then click the "Import buffer to widget" button right next to the above one. Remember to note the number that appears in the Setting dialog title as [idXX], you will need it for step 12.

where i can find it? white on black digits(the big one as urs)?

Definately the most reliable of the 3 available (desktop, homescreen, qbw) keenly await new configurable version :)

I like it well enough as it is... what's more to configure ? Button size perhaps ?

The switcher widget doesn't need to be a certain size, i made mine 64x64 to be in keeping with the rest of my icons, but just make them the size you want on picresize.com, save as .png and that's it

Hi nicolai.

I have request for you if possible please provide an option to select default/home/main desktop reason for this use-case is as follows..

like many others I have one desktop which has calender widget, yellow notes, around 8 to 10 important application shortcuts, bluewiz widget , recaller widget and a next alarm widget... i use this desktop as my home desktop.

now the problem is everytime I switch other desktop i have to manually switch it back.. which becomes annoying.. also whenever I unlock my phone I prefer to see my home desktop as its my center of Maemo play:D

I request you to add feature which gives an option to select a default/home/main desktop.. so every time I lock my phone it gets switched to default desktop and when I open the lock its I am at home desktop :)...

regards

Lav

Why don't you just put an icon on other desktops to go to the home one?

Re: [Announce] desktop switcher widget

That's what I've done too, having also that 'home screen' concept. I do find this 'auto-homing on lock' idea interesting, however, as it complements it rather than replace it.

Technically I suspect it would be easier to do with the d-bus calls (and modified hildon-desktop) other switchers use, than with nicolai's method which works with the constraints of the standard desktop.

I'm not sure on your desktop layouts, but i can't imagine that always being convenient. For instance, if i have music playing, my media desktop isn't my home desktop, and it'd be a pain having to unlock and switch back to the media screen each time i want to change a track

fpp 2010-10-15 14:46

Re: [Announce] desktop switcher widget

Well, in any case it would have to be optional, of course :)

yes I sugest it should be optional so I can select and deselect the home screen switch..

My friend richwhite its primary use case is when N900 gets locked and when I unlock it I want to be at my home screen

... n not when i am already using desktop.

I know, but what i meant with the media example is for instance if i'm on a train i select a track then lock it and put it in my pocket. If i want to change track or artist or do anything on that screen, would it not be cumbersome to have to unlock the device then switch back to the screen? It presents the same problem as what you have but in reverse

Yeas I understand what you have mentioned...

but the concept of having home screen is differnt than this

it means to accumulate all frequent and most likely task on one screen as per our needs and preferences..incase my case its calender and application shortcuts may be u will have music player and location widget.. some one else will have something different..
now declaring such screen as home screen and this home screen will be available to me whenever I unlock my phone... working as a deshbord for my preferences..

To make it simple I propose to add a a widget in task shortcut menu(which arrears after we tap on battery icon.. I dont know the correct name:p)
with check box option to activate home screen and next to that boxes with the 1,2,3,4 to select which screen should be home screen.

now whenver I activate home it goes according to the concept which I am requesting for and when u unchecked its works in normal mode...

please people tell me how you find this idea??

regards,

lav

I wanted to use a screenshot of my other desktops on the widgets and I didn't want to keep the 64X64 size. I wanted it to be a bit larger. Is this not possible yet?

When you say visual feedback on tap, what does that mean, it displays the contents of the selected desktop so you're sure it's the right one?

No, it just means it looks like a button is pressed.

Is the widget floating/fixed? Meaning, does it scroll along with the desktop or stay put?

Is it even possible to make 'floating' desktop widgets with fixed position?

The widget is fixed, but you can put multiple widgets on every
desktop.

Re: [Announce] desktop switcher widget

Grüss dich, Nicolai,

Couple of things I´d like to throw at you...

First: a sincere thank you. Why this app has not been a part ofthe original distro is beyond me.

Second: Yesterday I noticed some strange behaviour with icons disappearing from my 4 desktops. One by one they just left, as if they no longer liked me or my n900. :D Adding a new widget to the desktop had no effect. The icons did not reappear.

Than today I noticed the update icon, so I updated but still no icons. Also after a reboot, no luck.I decided to add the widget again and this time they appeared again, with the original settings and at their original location on the desktop.

I don´t know what caused this and at the moment everything works again but I figured I might combine a thanks/request reaction with some actual feedback.

Which brings me to the request. is it possible to add the option to choose for either an icon or a thumb of the actual desktop? I quite regularly change themes and this would be a great usability improvement for me.

Also, this question leads to the following: is the source of this widget available somewhere so, in case you decide or have already decided not to add this functionality, one might be able to add it him/herself?

Kind regards,
anthonie

You can already do this by taking screenshots, resize the pics on picresize.com and move them to the desktop-switcher folder in opt/usr/share/pixmaps (i tihnk that's the directory)

Which is why I chose the words I quite regurarly change themes. It's a bit of a pain taking screenshots when you change to a new theme, scale them down and than manually put them where they belong. It's also the reason I asked for the source, as I am sure it's not difficult to implement. Desktop Chooser, the other widget for this functionality has this already implemented, but the actual changing of desktop itself does not work on my n900.

Changing themes doesn't necessarily change the look though. I often change themes but i keep the same backgrounds and leave the icons/widgets in the same place. If you change the backgrounds, or move things around a lot, then that's a different thing altogether.

In the meantime, could you not just label them? I just have '1' '2' '3' from the same iconset as my other icons, and all other screens have a picture of a house for my homescreen
