Where to get N900 Map Loader

I had nokia maps some time ago, but the map loader software is now gone from the nokia site (N900 is not supported). Does somebody have the setup of map loader for n900?
Thanks.

If you value your sanity then don't use the map loader. Just download the files you need direct from Nokia's servers

It's faster and you can resume downloads.

I never got this direct downloaded maps to work although I followed the instructions. If someone does do this, better check that Nokia Maps really is using then maps in offline mode. You may get suprised.

The maps are available offline. The "only" problem is:
  • even if you set "Location" to NOT use "Network positioning" Ovi Maps will keep pestering you for an internet connection - which you can deny (and keep denying)
  • search (a) requires an internet connection and (b) fails 95% of the time

Well, I am not 100% sure, but I think when I tried to manually download whole country and extracted it by the instructions, it seemed still to download map tiles from the network because they came so slowly to the screen.

Well anyway, I hardly ever use Nokia Maps because it is so lame compared to Mappero and to great new comer modRana.

I have all my problems solved with OVI suite. If you have only one country try zooming out to country you will see a notification on the bottom "Downloading data" and when you are in that country there is none. So it works great, just pretty slow...

They have, but I haven't used navigation really much to say if they really work well. Both do have turn by turn navigation with voice. You'd better just try them. A good thing about Mappero and modRana is, they use same directory and files as a offline storage for maps, so when you download with one application the maps you need, you can use the maps with both apps.

The problem with both are that they currently need network connection to find a route from place A to B. But both are still developed and maybe get that feature too, offline routing. However you can find routes online beforehand, and save them to later use in offline mode.

The biggest problem using N900 offline for location is the need of A-GPS. GPS without A-GPS is disgusting slow.

I need MS Windows for OVI Suite, or have you managed to run it under Wine?

http://www.hpsblog.com/2009/07/direc...0-without.html is dead, use this one instead: http://nokiamaps.site666.info

(Use the older maps for 3.0 that the site says work with 3.04 - it is the smaller link, so read the page carefully.)

The links to the maps seem dead. Nokia Suite is endlessly waiting for connecting to maps server (syncing contacts or checking for updates throw errors too). And even though my MyDocs/cities folder got >300MB OviMaps won't display anything (without downloading at least which on roaming...)

Bump.. all the links are dead :( this is the closest thing I have found after the infamous map loader... which does not seems to be supported by nokia. all links lead me to ovi suite :(
