Re: [Announce] BackupMenu V2 - OS backup & restore

Either the nand has an error, or there's a glitch in the code that makes it -think- DD's still running when it's actually finished.

Either way, it's unsupported and dangerous, so...

I shutdown the device and boot it again. But still Backupmenu has no backup menu. :D

I, for one, don't support MultiBoot. If someone else has a solution(and I recall that it required a patch, some custom config, as well as the backupmenu install mentioned earlier), that's fine, but I'm not going out of my way to support it.
Especially as it's depreciated by u-boot, which bootmenu-n900 will coexist properly with.

Needs a slight bump.

Yes, the old one's still in the repo. In fact, you won't ever -lose- it, because you can -always- get old versions from the repo. Just remember that its version 3.x you need.
Also, you don't need it. You should flash the RootFS image you have via the Nokia flasher, then boot your N900(which will have the version of BackupMenu you had when you made the image) into BackupMenu, and restore the Optfs.
If you -can't- get the rootfs to flash properly, then you have a problem, the same problem that caused me to change.

Also, erm... To be fair, the only difference between the "old" backupmenu and the "new" one is that it's running in a ramdisk. All the old code(aside from console, which I took out because it was too -big- to read through when debugging) is still there. And the old key-commands still work. The menu-option text lines are just commented out.
However, none of the other options -work-, because of missing files.

Also, I don't think ssh or anything that relied on the USB Network actually worked; I copied that code from RescueMenu and didn't understand quite how to make it all work.

After about 4 long months of seperation it looks like tomorrow is the day I will finally be getting my replacement N900 in my hands.

I have a backup created with the old version of backup menu (and my now dead N900). I know I can download the old version and try to restore. But your post suggests an easier way which is to flash with the rootFS image. How do I do that? The first post suggests you need a Linux PC to do it. Is that still the case? Or is there now hope for a Windows user like myself?

Any machine that can flash your PR1.3 Fiasco image will flash the rootfs image - Just use the '-R' flag instead of '-F'.
If you look at the wiki page, you can do it with 32 bit Windows; 64-bit is sort of iffy.
I made my video with a Liniux LiveCD because it's pretty much foolproof - download these files, follow these steps and it -will- work. I could probably do the same with a windows livecd/image, but it's quite a bit harder to get -that- to work.

I see your point. I actually don't have any preference as to which bootloader to use. It doesn't has to be multiboot. Any one that works is fine.
I know uboot's strengths, however there seems to be no stable build yet for PR1.3.
And there aren't many choices apart from uboot. multiboot and backupmenu + bootmenu-n900.
Any suggestions?

Honestly, I'd try and see if bootmenu-n900 and multiboot would work together; I can't see why they wouldn't, at least not for what I'm using it for.

Can you supply the old packages, I'd like to see if those work, and then start testing any incompatibilities from there, to solve this issue.
