Estel lol u want the complete list of the software? :)
I was thinking is not so important beacuse the menu anche the cackup and restore worked well before installing CSSU thumb...

Same here! Anything I did, was updating and upgrading. I did not install any software in the last weeks. Yesterday, I tried to make my weekly backup with backupmenu. On the picture you see, what I get: A red screen and backupmenu do not work. Did the last thumb-update change anything?

I have the same problem here. At first I thought I'd caused it myself, but having seen it elsewhere, I think something's broken in either a CSSU(-Thumb), kernel or backupmenu update. As hinted here, I rolled back bootmenu to 1.11 (current version 1.12), but no difference.

BTW, Acurus_, I assume you mean "currently" in your signature, not "actually". The latter is usually taken to mean "really" where I live (even though it means "currently" whwre I come from :)).

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

I tried to reinstall backupmenu. With no success. I hope, somebody can fix it. Backupmenu is very important for me and others, as well. Possibly the reason is not the thumb-update, but rather the last power kernel-update. Surely one of this both updates is the reason for the problem.

Nothing wrong with my KP52 CSSU-Stable device or my KP52 CSSU-Thumb device here, I think this needs further diagnoses.

my experience is... 3 N900
flashed
installed all my software and CSSU test and KP52
used backup menu and restored
all as gone ok

installed CSSU thumb and... backupmenu and bootmenu changed...
bootmenu has the selected menu gone in a strange light blue color and then backupmenu goes in that red screen and "chrooting..."
the only way to exit is to press the q key

Same here. And we are not alone. In this case, the thumb-update is the reason.

Is it possible, to reinstall the precursor version of cssu-thumb?

I have the same issue too: with CSSU thumb, and after installing the last kernel power, I am not able to restore a backup anymore.

The only way to manage the situation is a complete reflash (both FIASCO and VANILLA images)... but I have not tried yet, because I want to save MyDocs partition...

Reflashing only the FIASCO image makes the system very unstable (the system hangs simply by opening or closing the hardware keyboard) and sometime unbootable...

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

I also have the red backupmenu problem, but the fault probably isn't the latest CSSU-thumb or kernel-power, because I used backupmenu after installing those. Or at least thought I did!

I'll try to uninstall-reinstall things until I come up with what works on my n900.

Looks like backupmenu works normally but doesn't update the screen at all. The commands work and things happen, but you don't see the results.

[Edit: Well, rolling kp52 back didn't help.]
[Edit2: Looking at logs, I did also pull in a "initrd-progs 1.0.1" from cssu-devel 'round the same time. I wonder if that caused this? The update altered programs cal-tool, key_pressed and text2screen.]

Raimu 2013-04-24 01:30

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Ha! Backupmenu does seem to use text2screen, and if that initrd-progs update altered something about it, we might have the culprit here.

I'm not using backupmenu, but if quit key working, then backupmenu should work, but output on screen is broken. I think that backupmenu using chroot. Check if every one binary is correcty copied into chroot with all needed libraries...

Hey, that might be a clue. I've also installed Easy Debian which also fiddled with chroot. I will have a look at it at home tonight.

could be but...

why I flashed, installed backupmenu (it includes bootmenu), installed all my software, installed CSSU testing and...

done a backup and a restore so bootmenu and backup menu were working..

then I installed CSSU thumb and... bootmenu displays the light blu selected menu and, if I choose backupmenu it goes to red screen and chrootin...

I'll check which version of initrd-progs is cssu-thumb depending on

Raimu 2013-04-24 13:27

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

freemangordon, there was an initrd-progs update outside cssu-thumb -- it was in cssu-devel! This one: http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/comm.../initrd-progs/

A Pali release, I think? I just randomly picked it up around the same time as I did the latest CSSU-thumb update.

I don't immediately think this red backupmenu thing is a CSSU-thumb problem - I think the individual initrd-progs update on cssu-devel might've done it. Could we ask Pali to let us know what sort of changes it contained?

It is either that package, or some other one pulled from CSSU-T, that is why I want to check -thumb mp thingie dependencies.

However, I don't see how cssu-thumb could affect BM.

No time to think about this in-depth now :)

But (text2screen.c):
Code:

        /* TODO: there ain't OMAPFB_COLOR_RGB888 for 24-bit color */
        update.format = OMAPFB_COLOR_RGB565;

I'd bet a number of bucks that this is what causes the red "tint". Note that I haven't seen it myself (I don't have backupmenu), but the above certainly *must* cause some form of color distortion.

Hiya, me and freemangordon checked out the initrd-progs lead, and that's what causes the redscreening backupmenu. I'm not gonna be the go-to guy if you botch up doing this, but you can revert the problem for now by using dpkg to install this (the stock version of initrd-progs) http://maemo-archive.wedrop.it/downl...b0m5_armel.deb and NOT UPGRADING INTO THE LATEST ONE IN CSSU-DEVEL. :)

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

As Raimu suspected it seems the issue is "initrd-progs" from cssu-devel.

Quote:

(16:12:01) Raimu: freemangordon: Reverting to stock initrd-stuff corrected everything. Confirmed.
I have also installed all thumb and cssu-devel updates apart from the above package and have no issues.

It's not a downgrade as such.
CSSU-devel isn't released software anyway it's mostly unstable stuff for testing.
Thanks for being a guinea-pig. :)

GREAT. Now, my backupmenu is working!! Many thanks. Hope, the cssu-crew will recognize this and will change it with next upcoming update/ugrade.

Obviously, the black colour is normal at this point, when backupmenu is starting. But backupmenu do not change to the next screen. It stops exactly there, where it stops before with the red screen.

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

Hm, this is interesting. I probably should get myself a spare N900 so I can do some devel work... I don't have the time to finish a "code -> debug -> get working" cycle in one day anymore(and actually use my N900 on a daily basis), so I'm going to need to get myself a second device. Shouldn't be too long now that I've got a good job... Might be able to order it next week...

If you guys take a look at the code, the word 'chrooting' is being displayed from the rootfs-based pre-BM system, and anything after it is being displayed from the chroot. I'd look at the beginning of BackupMenu.item and see what isn't available so it won't start...
And yes, if Q works, then that means BM is actually booting, it just isn't displaying. text2screen problems perhaps?

Acurus_ 2013-04-25 16:24

I see, we will mange this problem. Thanks!

pichlo 2013-04-25 18:21

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

I can definitely confirm Acurus_'s and alexporta's findings. The only version of initrd-progs that works with BM is 0.81-7+0m5 0. Both 1.0-1 0 and 1.0-2 0 get stuck at "Chrooting...". On top of that, 1.0-1 0 has a red background. This is on CSSU-T with KP52.

Raimu 2013-04-25 21:33

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

All right, I've narrowed the problem down to the new text2screen. When text2screen from the 1.x version of initrd-progs is used, the problem happens. If the stock version of text2screen is used, there is no problem.

So backupmenu does the chroot and after that, the new t2s doesn't react in the same manner as the old one. Is it expecting a file to be there that isn't copied by BackupMenuLauncher.item?

...thinking...

ade 2013-04-25 22:27

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

The problem is most likely that the new text2screen needs libpopt.so.0.

The older text2screen did not need libpopt.so.0.

If you start backupmenu with "modprobe fbcon" in /sbin/preinit, you can clearly see the error message that libpopt.so.0 cannot be loaded.

Latest version:
Code:

text2screen
        libpopt.so.0 => /lib/libpopt.so.0 (0x40033000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40042000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x40000000)

Older version
Code:

text2screen
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40033000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x40000000)

Re: [Announce] BackupMenu - OS backup & restore | New version - Jul 9th(v1.1)

In that case, the fix is simple - inside extrafiles.tar.gz there's a text file with all the files to be in the new chroot. add it to the file, recompress the .gz and you should be good to go
