There are more bug fixes than you can shake a can of Raid at! My N900 is smoother and faster than ever before. Problem is, people complained about "buggy" PR1.2 and then when a lot of bugs are fixed, they complain about "lack of new features" PR1.3 while forgetting that most of their previous complaints have been resolved. I am seeing better CPU/GPU management, faster email fetching, better UI rotation and speed, faster and more stable browsing, clearer youtube playback, almost no pulse audio stuttering when multitasking, UI NOT freezing like on 1.2 when using the application manager, less stuttering when recording video and quicker autofocus (OC kernel causes more stuttering) and better ram management. All of these are worthy updates that make using the N900 more enjoyable. A lot of complaints also stem from the fact that almost no 2 N900 setups are alike, we all customized our devices to the edge and some people have issues, missing settings or "don't notice any improvement over my pr1.2 hildon hack" In all fairness, we can't expect Nokia to fix problems that we may have caused by our own hackery so I am MORE than excited to see Nokia tighten up and fix core Maemo elements. We can build our new hacks on a faster and more stable codebase. Now...let us get ahold of more Meego bits and get QTmobile and Quick porting! Here's looking at you Meego Flash 10.1....

Thank you Nokia for fixing the bugs and keeping the N900 compatible with the Symbian and Meego QT development framework. Thanks to the OP for this topic.

1. USSD code is still not working e.g. **21*xxxxxxxx# (not support in PR1.3). We used it for callforwarding in Hong Kong and I believe it applied to many countries. This feature was available in my first mobile phone 10 years ago!!
2. Google Contact Sync. Can someone confirm if this one is working in PR1.3? This has been a standard in rest of Nokia phone in past few years.

Nokia, please read this!!

wait, what?

am I doing something wrong because I use both of those daily?

You know what I like. Being followed.

Makes me feel either loved, wanted or important... if not all three.

I've arrived, baby. I have arrived.

1. This is a bug and have a long discussion with Andre.
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5357

2. From what I understand, MfE is ok to sync for first time, but not subsquence. I didn't test on PR1.3 but I don't see anything from the changelog people posted

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

personally i think that from to be a little happy whit the update (at least i can see nokia dont totally forget the n900) to have to say thanks to nokia there is a veeeery long way, i dont feel any change in my phone after the update, all working exactly same and to think that a full army of programers works more than 6 months to give us only this ridiculous update makes me very sad, a lot of singles person in this comunity give us more usefull aplications only working some weeks, you dont must to forget that for me, for example more than 90% of the aplications i use are created for people of this comunity, not for nokia.
went i can see more than 1000 aplications in ovistore, maps working like other nokia models, flash 10, video calls, and a lot of other stuf can find in any cheaper phone, then i would say thanks to nokia, but for now this post is to say THANKS to Matan, NononoYes, Nicolai, MohammedAG, D-livil, and a lot more of people that deserve it more.

dont know why, after upgrading to PR1.3, I can feels the N900 is more smoother (without swappolube running) on its GUI when under heavy loads, like web browsing, playing musics and running the damn slow application manager in background.

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

Thanks devs for this tuning update.
Now testing the out of the box pr1.3 w/o all the habitual performance enhancing utilities and tweaks.
Counting missed calls due to multitasking load, counting the uptime until reboot required to get things going smoothly again. Will evaluate later, but this could be a winner. (aprt from bluetooth peripheral support, pr1.2 was amazingly and uniquely feature complete to me)
So far, bat life seems very ok.
Also big thanks to devs of Swappolube and others to show Nokia the way while on pr1.2.

1. you didn't read the link posted, did you? btw I am also in CC-list of that bug.. just install the app I linked and magic will happend when you try next time the codes. (btw you can also manually edit phone apps config files to enable input of the codes you need)

2. try a service that follows the standards (unlike googles own service). this one is free: http://nuevasync.com/
e: and you can link your google acount to nuevasync and sync google data through it. I have the paid version so I get also emails via MfE

virtually no difference on my device.

asking myself it this update wasnt just a placebo...?!

got a sms yesterday telling me about a new update for my n900 and i should check out to "www.nokia.de/softwareupdate"
this site shows my the "new update" - its pr1.2

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

I got the update notification, it told me to install OTA and use WLAN. After downloading the 90MB it tells me I didn't have enough battery charge remaining so try it again by connecting the charger. I thought it will start downloading again, but no, it must have continued from where it left off and after a few minutes it completed the installation with a reboot. Could the upgrade have been simpler than this? I don't think so.

For me the most important thing of this upgrade was that not many of the community apps and customizations that we made broke after the upgrade, which I think was really great. All in all it left me with a faster more responsive N900 and maybe a better battery life (which maybe just my imagination I don't know, but it feels like that).

So, giving the thanks that is due: Thanks Nokia!

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

My ipv6 connection never works, which essentially means that when I'm not home I basically can no longer connect to the Internet. No big deal, since I'm home most of the time and can use my Wireless. (It worked fine before the update)

But I take for granted constant updates from a lot of companies. Why should I thank Nokia so much, when I don't thank the other companies? I only paid the other companies small amounts and I paid Nokia a large amount. So why should I beg Nokia for updates and kiss its feet when it gives me a few crumbs?

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

I wonder how many of the people complaining tried living with a E70-2.

The little bit that I used it, rotation seems faster, email seems a little faster, App manager doesn't seem to completely cripple it anymore. Hopefully, my new headphones come in tomorrow so I can try it as a music device again.

However, partnering it with my Sansa Fuze seemed to solve some stuttering and battery life issues.

as for USSD codes, I could have sworn that I checked my tn usage without reloading my apps, maybe it has been? Gotta check the fix list.

Yeah, mouse support - tried it and it reboots my n900.
Yeah, keyboard works fine but it's touch and go if it connects.

My bluetooth keyboard is a Logitech Mediapro PS3 bluetooth keyboard with integrated touchpad.

It works with every bluetooth computer I know. The n900 is an exception.

Symbian-based Nokia devices support bluetooth keyboards.

if it was not for qole's excellent scripts I would not have bothered trying.

I am forever thankful to qole for his work on Easy Debian.

Bluetooth connectivity should never have been an issue in the first place.

I didn't, but I did live with DOS and Windows 3.1 and OS/2 and many versions of Linux and Windows since then. Not to mention my Timex Sinclair computers and my Adam Coleco.

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

This is a GREAT update nokia; my phone has never been so fast or held so much battery life before (though it is using 20mb more ram).
Thanks!

At the same time the n900 is still lacking some really basic features:
Personalized ringtones for each contact (9yr old samsung did this)
Individual Alarm Tone for each alarm clock! (old samsung did this)
(Im sick to death of using the alarmed app to play me different songs on different days of the week. This should have been vanilla)

Does enabling call forwarding in Settings->Phone not work for you?

(Apparently this is not a USSD code, but an "SS" code, and the required features have UI implementations instead)

This was the only interface provided on phones too limited to offer a UI for it. Do you also want other "features" of 10-year-old phones, such as one-line on-screen to edit SMSs, limited to 160 characters etc.?

The bug you reference later is fixed in PR1.2, as noted in that bug, I regularly use *141*712*0# to check my data balance, or other similar numbers to buy data bundles etc.

There are some *other* USSD-related bugs that aren't fixed in Maemo itself, but there are packages in extras which provide workarounds.

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

I have noticed my phone is now faster and smoother, there's much improvement in so many areas. For that, I'm happy with the update.
But, I'm still feeling like a beta user, even now with almost one year with my phone. So, I don't feel like thanking to Nokia for something that should be there in the first place.

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

I was very "meh" when I first heard about the software update. I was unsure if minor bug fixes (some of which were already available from the community) was really worth the hassle of freeing up 88MB on my rootfs to do an OTA update.

Now that I've done it, I'm really happy. Little speed bumps everywhere in the UI. I'm finding myself just really thankful that we got this from Nokia. With all the Symbian and Meego 1.0 work going on there, getting this was just...... nice. Ya know? :)

For doing nothing?

I was not sure why, but after a couple of weeks have found a number or real improvements. The onboard App Manager is REALLY fast !! Also the email program is much faster. My battery life has definately improved... I am overclocked using Enhanced Kernel at limits 125 850 One problem that I can't solve is that Joikuspot doesn't work. I don't know if it is because of PR 1.3 or because of the kernel. Does anybody have a similar experience ??

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

ER444, JoikuSpot doesn't work for me also. I'm using Mobile Hotspot with titan's Kernel Power, works like a charm and besides that, it's totally free.
Why mess with JoikuSpot anymore if you can get the same withoud having to pay....

Bug fixing is never useless.
And if you would know all the

would know that this is hard work.

I see that my N900 runs faster, battery life seems to be better
therefore I appreciate this new version and say thanks to the

Re: Thanks for PR 1.3, Nokia!

I don't know about battery and smoothness I'll take peoples word on it. All I know is after a complete reflash so everything should be clean, advance-power no longer works, all it does is remove my battery indicator. grrr. I wish there were more tangible things in 1.3 could point to, the only tangible thing I see is that app which I loved does not work anymore :(
