All I want for Christmas (from PR 1.4) is:

Integrated spellcheck
A decent email client
Improved Ovi Maps (turn-by-turn, etc.)

A GPU accelerated hildon desktop would be nice. GPU Accelerated flash as well. Why do we even have a GPU anyway? Nokia added it and completely forgot about it. Adobe, well, 9.4 didn't have hardware acceleration at the time, they're off the hook.

Forget java, it's slow and bulky. I'm glad I own one of the only modern phones/smartphones/tablets that comepletely excludes java.

Pretty much like the ones on old windows mobile platform.

Yes, I can launch continental rockets from my N900 but I simply can't take all required information from my customers, for example. I used before a XDA Flame running windows mobile 6.x ligth years away for this kind of use.

I just made a userscript for greasemonkey, it's only a few lines of code and can be greatly improved easily but i just made a proof of concept.

Wizard mounter (available in one of the repos) works well for this.

For me, I would say the only things I would want are:

1. better portrait mode w/portrait QWERTY keyboard

2. Ovi navigation

Already done I think.

CTRL + Shift + R on the keyboard then sliding the device closed and rotate it to change the screen orientation.

1. Fix mediaplayer widget (for godsake!)
2. Fix phone app still not responsive or after 10 seconds when call come sin.
3. Fix crashing alarm when going off no responsiveness.
4. flash 10!!!
5. Descent support for IM in contacts MSN and others with ability to block unblock people send files. Current im about msn arent working half of the time. server error on different operators and different connections.
6. USB on the GO. integrated
7. MMS integrated
8. Virtual keyboard overlay, so no seperate textbox where text is loaded in but actually typ directly in to the textbox of a webpage or some similar
9. Email fix that doesnt make my email app crash to desktop and after 20 minutes all of a sudden pops up.
10. camera app that has a function to delay making pictures.
11. descent video and photo editing
12. manually make playlists, name them and add music.
13. the picture and file scrolling while uploading or some similar, is a pain. with scrolling through 1000's of photo's
14. portrait keyboard in webbrowser and conversations (atleast!!!)
15. function build in to the calendar to automatic always view month mode
16. ability to stop n900 from searching wifi when A2DP bluetooth headset is connected. or maybe slow down wifi and give A2DP headset priority.
17. fixing stuttering interface when music is playing
18. built menu's and especially the photo album to kinetic scroll at atleast 30 ~ 60 FPS.
19. status icons for voip and chataccounts per account in the status bar. so you can see wich one are connected.
20. voip and chataccounts status changing per account.
21. showing icons behind a contact for each voip and chataccount so you can see with wich account that person is online.

Maemo is far from finished... i really dont understand why they stop supporting it and start building an allready doomed project called "MeeGo"

isn't that for the web browser? what i meant was total portrait support; texts, photos, menu, media.. all of the apps. like, portrait all the way for everything.

1-Ovi Maps turn by turn and recalculating.

2-HTML 5/ Flash 10.1 and above

3-Much better battery life.

Thanks to Mohammad, Joerg, Paul and others in the H-E-N team, we have a perfectly usable USB Host mode. It will only get better from here.

For the most part the other requests I have seen in this thread are all either available already or possible through the awesome developers this community has. I have not tried the N900 Boost script but it sounds as if it will solve even more issues.

4. Exchange integration (provisioning support + calendar + contacts)
5. fix one annoying bug in the browser - actually encoutered on both opera and the builtin one - when entering certain mobile sites (like wap ones) the screen width is reported bigger than it really is, causing the site to stretch out of the visible area and require vertical scrolling. Just try any of the mobile google sites (except for search which somehow optimized) and you see what I mean. Also encoutered on my cellular provider mobile site. BTW, why does the mobile reader google site looks differently between opera and the builtin browser? is it a user agent thingy?

Happy with the device, would like a more diverse app offering. Especially some of the service applications. Find local places of interest, amber watch [check local area for those pesky pedif's] etc ...

I like the core applications for the device alot.

Make Maemo Qt-based open-source desktop environment which could replace hildon.
Make non-essential applications recommended instead of required (like shortcut to Ovi Store).
Make filemanager see Bluetooth FTP servers.

2. Be able to call people on skype who do not show up as online.
3. Make Skype video calls even if the other party doesn't have a webcam.

I hope pr1.4 brings this feature as I don't really remeber when was the last time I held my phone next to my ear :p

Integrate kernel enhancements like Titan's compile (even without OC), HEN, kinetic...

I'm sure it will prompt for support issues but since it (the support) will be fading away soon or later, why not do it from a powerful codebase (even if not super stable) rather than from a trimmed down version of what the kernel could really be...

Support for SyncML. A cental UI for syncing Calendar, Mail,Contacts (PIM) with ActiveML,SynML or anyother sync service..Each could be individualy sync to difffernt services.

Zoom in pictures..Bring some transitions in playlist..whacky UI basically

Tabbed Xconsole,

Intergrated Voice commands.

- Priority to phone app while heavy CPU load
- Improved media player faster loading, better playlist handling
- Updated OVI Maps (3.06 like features)
- Improved speed when loading long lists in mediaplayer, gallery, phonebook, conversations (caching?)

This is def the best phone ive ever had (N900). I really dont see wuy nokia did not continue wth maemo 5. It has so much more potential.ANYWAY.

1. Portrait mode
2.Better email client,choosing how much of the mail u want to download wthout using nokia messaging.
3.Voice nav with ovi maps

iPhone 4 and the Samsung EPIC 4G are way up there.
Other top picks include the Nokia N8, Motorola Milestone2, Nexus One etc.

Phones like the LG Star/Optimus 2X will change everything. Again.

1) Free Voice Guided Navigation
2) Improved Music player with more equalizer options
3) In camera Smile Detection, Touch focus
4) HD Video Recording or atleast 720 P video recording
5) Fixing the below mentioned problems that I consider as bugs

a) The speaker sound is still low compared to other high end Nokia Phones
b) Support for all Nokia based headset along with navigation keys should work.
c) Better memory usage.

i reccormend you use "tweak flash plugin" for the mean time. it dosnt seem like a flash player update is coming any time soon.

3) Symbian emulator built in for legacy s60 apps
4) multiboot from mass memory for 2-3 OS

+1 for those two points. As an IT manager planning on enforcing better data security, including the use of provisionable only devices with Exchange, I'm creating a headache for myself as I don' have a provisionsabe device.... :eek:
