Re: Archos 101 - internet tablet

My Archos 70 will be coming on Wednesday, maybe I'll put up a review by the end of the week.

The thing I'm disappointed with in Archos is that they didn't state how much RAM both the 70 and the 101 ship with. Also, they state on the website that they come with 2.2... and in the fine print say "available November 12"

I'm looking forward to see your review of the 101. Can you poke around and see how much RAM you've got? Because I called Archos, and even the tech support guys couldn't confirm whether or not the 70 came with 256mb or 512mb RAM. Makes me nervous...

the one thing i want to know is if the 101 come with a pdf reader installed, and if so can it handle a a4 or letter sized sheet with some degree of readability in portrait.

@ orion88freedom

Could you possible pull up 'top' in the terminal and see how much RAM your 101 has?

Much appreciated.

On my Archos 101, it didn't come pre-installed with any PDF viewer or reader. I had to install a slow one from the Appslib.....it can handle your pdfs but very slow in rendering or showing the file....

tushyd,

i'm afraid I'm not that advanced to be able to pull ram info from "top" in "terminal" for archos 101. But I can confirm that it has 256 mb ram as it was listed in the paperwork that I got from the shop where I got archos 101.

ok, i guess one could go with one of the "office" packs. I think there was a video of it on youtube.

oh, and how many fingers can the screen tell apart? can you for instance type with a all ten if the 101 have the stand in the low angle setting?

tso,

The office pack's free version is even slower to be honest. Unless you can install the android market's apk I don't think you'll have much success with pdf viewers.

The screen can't differentiate much fingers. Definitely not all 8 fingers and 2 thumbs. The maximum I've managed to work with it is 1 thumb and 2 fingers :)

bah, making the lower angle option for the stand virtually pointless. Damn it archos!

Yeah, I just got my Archos 70 and it's got 256mb RAM.... dissapointing. But it's still a nice/cheapo tablet to mess around with
